Fishing
Orogun01 replied to Stuttery G's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
As a fan of the Dragon Breath series I gotta say that fishing is a yay for me. Besides I need something to do while drunk. -
Awesome. I am assuming it will be a decent upgrade in terms of the engine, given the official expansions always did a pretty great job with improving the graphics. I'm not quite sure what you mean by fixing the combat, the game is perfect in that regard. The RTS bit could had used a bit of polishing, even with the mods I don't feel that strategy actually plays much of a role.

Purpose, Mr. Anderson! It is purpose that created us, it is purpose that connects us, purpose that pulls us, that guides us, drives us, binds us. It is purpose that defines us. Purpose!!! You couldn't resist, could you?

Is that the Shawshank Redemption?

I really dislike that kind of exposition; is too cheap and lazy for my taste, like they didn't know how to portray the bad guy through his actions so now they need him to be explicit and explain his evil plan word for word like you're "special". It's lazy at its best patronizing at its worst, best we find out by ourselves what we want to do rather than be swayed by pretty arguments. I mean how hard can it be to write some scenes where both points of view are expressed through acts rather than words.

I don't think that I've ever played a game that actually implemented a wizard's duel.

The logistics was probably them waiting for the right bid. Score one for piracy over greed.

The important thing is to keep at it and have an objective view of what you do and what is yours.

What is there not to get? Bagelheading, why bagelheading is desirable, why anyone would want to look like they have an O-Ring fused on their head. That sort of thing. It's Japan, hell if I know.

The writing style seems a little too direct, you should work on establishing a better rhythm and tone. Other than that, its successful at painting a picture without being explicit(kudos for that BTW). But I kind of got lost at the middle when it became "faster", it often happens to me when action is present on a passive medium.

It's a good idea to know the law when you are in a different country. Either way I hope that the consulate takes this up, he should be tried by his home country's courts. Cultural relativism and all that jazz.

What is the purpose of this thread? Why does it exist? When you force yourselves or others to believe that this thread has a purpose an infinite regress of posts occurs. Stop it

New Game + vs Once and Done
Orogun01 replied to Cariannis's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'm a fan of NG+ although I would prefer it if they actually incorporated something that makes replay with a carryover save worthwhile, like collectibles, or special items. -
Let's name this game.

No, there's already one of those gay porn Japanese games called that. -
Yeah, he is just awesome.

I get what your say but your view is more applicable to a real life scenario than an actual story, because its the conflict that drives the villain and therefore the story. But within the confines of a simple three stages story structure its the villain that initiates the conflict. PS:T is a great example of a story without a main villain, although you could argue that the nameless one was the villain since his actions initiated the conflict and he is also the main antagonist. They are destructive because destruction is a force of change, on stories when the status quo is the evil then the protagonist becomes the force of change ergo the destructive one. Motivations aside though, I think that is that the problem is writers that confuse relatable with apologetic, I prefer my villains to be consistent in their personalities. P.S: I think I would like a pacifist antagonist if I get the chance to play as an evil overlord.

I think you got that backwards there alphyna, is the protagonist that is bound to the villain because it is the villain that creates the conflicts and drives the story forward. Personally I don't much care for the views of antagonists, they are often destructive of the character if done improperly. E.G. Saren from ME: who starts as a bona fide bad guy, hates humanity and is a bad ass Specter for the galactic council. Mid way in the game we learn about the Reapers and how scared he is of them, plus the fact that he may be indoctrinated. By the end he's a more of an emotional mess than a sixteen years old girl, is indoctrinated and shoots himself as if it was some sort of redemption. So, from bad guy to scared bad guy to broken down husk of what used to be something lethal.

I think there's a consensus that Desmond never left the facility, has been permanently attached to the animus and his story is just a fabricated lie. And if that's not canon it should be. Seriously how does the guy with the coolest ancestors end up being that.

Use it as an excuse to get your hubby to give you a foot massage and go to bed early.

Ok let me try to simplify my thoughts, BW is good at making CRPGs which they don't do anymore in favor of action/hybrids that aren't quite good but still get a pass because of the novelty of the experience. But at their core they are still a CRPG developer therefore they can't make ME have the same level of mechanics as GoW, and as they kept expanding into newer more diverse projects oversight fell down and they exploded.

Sorry to hear that.
