Portraits IV
Vitalis replied to Amentep's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'm going to steal some from PoE1's thread: -
Eh...When comparing mods, it's very unfair to Infinty Engine games to Bethesda games. I mean, I see what you're trying to do but if we're being honest, Bethesda's modding community is worlds ahead and better than any Infinity Engine game's modding community, so much though that it wouldn't even be worth mentioning BG2's mods. Now... About Infinity Engine mods, there's another reason why they're not worth mentioning. None of them drastically change gameplay or experience of the games BUT we do have the Enhanced Editions which strangely I don't see people mentioning here. I never see the point in using mods to justify saying a game is good. The game should always be judged on it's own, without mods. If a game comes with unfinished features, any model made to fix those features should never override how ****ty those original features were.

Ekera

No problem with Serafen, too. I'm not a native speaker, but I have a much more harder time understanding that Australian guy in Doctor House. Udyne is awesome. I don't get what that's about, but she uses some german words, or at least words that are understandable for a german. It's because Udyne is Aedyran, and Aedyr is Germanic Britain. Aedyr's Hylspeak is clearly modelled after the real life German-influenced Old English. I always felt it was related to the Celtish languages, but that may be because the accent seemed to be Irish. To my untrained eye, that seemed to be what Udyne's text would indicate, provided I'm right that it models how she says the words. -
They bought the game, presumably, knowing that it wasn't a full on theme park "do whatever" type game; that should be reason enough to start the story. Finishing it is entirely up to the player, which is tangentially related to how well written the story is. Most narratives in cRPGs are railroaded by the content available for the player, if they don't advance the story, they don't get content. It's different in the ever popular ThemePark "RPG's" of certain developers because the story isn't the main feature, it's just tacked on for the people that care, and it shows. The narrative changes are related to disposition, which while great, is not an entirely perfect system since people are rarely always One/a couple of Cruel, Aggresive, Benevolent, Diplomatic, Clever, Passionate, Rational, or Stoic; but a mix of any of them depending on the situation. It is entirely possible for a player to end up with a smattering of dispositions which end up creating reactivity that the player does not agree with for the character. Paladins are exempt since they essentially have to be their approved dispositions. But what do I know, I'm just some rambling recluse on the internet. As for the questions: Will we ever receive new portraits for our created characters? If not, will more customization options be added that matches the portraits we do have? Obsessive Compulsive minds would like to know.

I seem to recall a time when Curry and the rest of the Warriors were crap; now everyone's losing their minds that a team from California is just dominating the NBA, with players begging to be on the team.

Ekera

Yes, your enjoyment of the game is now lessened because you found out that NPCs say the word "Ekera". How woeful. -
Overriding AI?
Vitalis replied to wanderon's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
What I love is when I manually activate a barbarian's frenzy only for the AI to use it again while already under its effect. I don't know how many times I've manually activated the athletics heal only to have the AI override it leading to the characters death. -
Yeah, let's ignore direct statements from Todd Howard, the head of BGS, that Fallout 76 is a spin-off and their main titles were, are, and will be focused on singleplayer. Indeed, let's instead blindly trust that the company that decides to come out with a multiplayer half a year after their "save player one" campaign isn't going to change it's mind on that. Especially if Fallout 76 turns out to make them a stupid amount of money, for what seems to be comparatively rather less work than they'd have needed for a single player game. They would hardly be the first traditionally single player gaming developer to make that switch. Besides, there is still also a difference between focused on single player and single player only; they might still end up throwing multiplayer elements into it as well, which would require compromises in the game design (eg. VATS and jet can't work as in Fallout 4 if there's potentially more than one player). I'm hardly claiming that they definitely will shift their focus towards multiplayer, but I also wouldn't be too quick to believe they won't just because Todd Howard is saying so now. Perhaps we should remember that Todd Howard is a fan of removing features for every new feature added, and has been the death of innovation in all of the games he has produced, so chances are most of those features were removed anyways. https://youtu.be/46gaz6veVNQ?t=3372 That video is worth an hour of your time.

I expect to see you post in all of the Gotecci street thread on this board complaining of this issue. Go ahead, I'll wait.

If my character is going to be a Lord, Captain, etc it would be nice to actually feel like one. So far, besides some annoying events, bandits have decided to attack your stronghold, and you've lost four buildings, or you didn't feed your crew so now they're in mutiny; those don't really capture the spirit of either role.
