  1. After the events at Ashen Maw, the gods meet with you. Some of them are pissed because they (*THE GODS!*) recognize that it's way too late to stop Eothas now. They recognize that you seem to have some sway over him and send you to Ukaizo to do what you can plant the seeds for what happens after. This isn't an interpretation. This isn't an assumption. This isn't implied. It's the actual dialog the writers put into the game for us read and hopefully understand. *shrugs* and this may be one of those situations where we have to agree to disagree. To me, a heavy-handed writer is one that doesn't trust the audience to follow along. Again, there's a difference between art and entertainment and art *should* require some effort from the audience. The problem is that the audience is used to heavy handed writing from video games, to books, to television, to even movies (thanks Disney)!
  2. It sounds like the ThemePark NotRPGs made by WeDoNotMakeActualRPGsAnymore are for you.
  3. It was intended hyperbole, the only real faction that I like is Furrante's Principi since he's honest about what he does. The Huana practice a worse form of slavery with the Roparu, tricked a dragon into slavery, and probably a number of other idiotic things; but they're the "natives" that dindu nuffin' to most people.
  4. It is mostly childhood memory and the charm of the new. So yeah, its mostly nostalgia, even if you deny it. Nothing can beat the memory, as for most people the first kiss is unforgettable. The essence of your statement is: "I know the reasons for other people's preferences better than they do themselves, and even if they claim otherwise, I am right and they are wrong about the reasons for their preferences." It's patently absurd. It's not like people are actually aware of all of the biases that they hold. They also like to admit them too.
  5. The "Fortune Teller" is a thief that got turned into a wooden man that is forced to read "fortunes" for idiots. He has no ability to see the future and he spouts nonsense.
  6. I did not expect that the player would fight the statue directly, that was obviously not intended by the game and conveyed properly. But a dialogue choice or an indirect way to stop Eothas is not that much of an stretch of an idea, afterall he listens to you words at times. Furthermore he was defeated by the Godhammer prior to PoE1, showing that there are means to stop a god. For example, the animancy experiments with the glowing Adra could have been used to faciliate an option of diverting Eothas. It is a fantasy RPG after all, so doing something seemingly impossible is not unheard of. I was rather taken aback that eventually not a single option was provided. To make it clear, these options do not require a fight with Eothas or his destruction or conflict at all, and i am sure the writers could have devised a thought-provoking alternative. The lack of such an alternative and therefor your inability to influence the outcome regarding the destruction of the wheel is the source of my criticism of the main quest line. For me it was not clear that this was never supposed to be an option at all. When Eothas was blown up by the Godhammer he was inhabiting a mortal body. Now hes in an ancient statue with the power of who knows how many souls fueling him. After Ashen Maw, it should be apparent that there is no way to destroy Eothas.
  7. I vote Warlock, mostly because Infuse with Vital Essence counters the downside of Berserker. I'm currently working on a build now for it, but I doubt I'll ever post it.
  8. My nain issue with the stats (not yours) is that from a roleplay standpoint I always find it difficult to really dump Resolve, it's said to represent your force of personality, and it has the side benefit of increasing deflection. However, with builds that rely on being bloodied, having a higher constitution would seem to make sense but its possible that it isn't. While I'm no genius with numbers, while having more health is good. It may not provide the same benefit as having 10 constitution. Bloodied is always going to begin around having half health, which is a danger regardless of your health level. If you take Thick Skin and The Bloody Links, your defenses while bloodied should, theoretically, make it difficult to take a lot of damage. If combined with a high Resolve/Deflection you could then have a, potentially, higher chance of staying alive than with Constitution. A balanced option would be to increase both Constitution and Resolve, but then you would need to drop another stat or not boost Dexterity or Might. With a casting class as a secondary, Intelligence can not be droppe; this then leaves either Dexterity or Might, with Might being more important overall.
  9. You can do most, if not all their quests on the same playthrough. I don't know how many of the faction quests you've covered on the Huana route, but quite a few of them actually intertwine, so you'll have to deal with both factions anyway. Same goes for locations. As for NPC, Principi have their two leaders, Benweth, Mad Morena, and Dereo, all of whom are more or less interesting (except maybe Morena). VTC have Castol, Alvari, Flaune Elette aka the chief animancer, and a bunch of dukes and princes from the Republics whose names I don't even remember since they only appear in one single scene. So I guess Principi win in terms of numbers. But again, you can get to deal with both sides' characters regardless of who you support. I might actually not kill Benweth this time, since I don't need Miscreant's Leathers for this build anyway.Kill him on principal then. Does he do anything else if you spare him, or is he just never mentioned again? He betrays Aeldys for Futrante. Not that I blame him, I'm not particularly fond of Aeldys' style. I generally kill him because he attacked you, thought you weren't a threat, and looks like a ****.

  11. Alright. So would you recommend Soulblade (And just ignore spells) or Ascendant (And take some CC/Direct Damage spells?) Endgame because of norecovery+ascendant aoe nukes ascendant barb will deal more damage. Soul annihilation can't compete with machine gun aoe amplified waves. Fair 'nuff! Ascendant it is. I made a thread back during launch about a Witch build, I was hoping to get help with turning it into a build, but I suppose I can offer what I knew then (1.1). Soul annihilation does good damage, but it is hindered by not being a full attack, so there's no benefit from using two weapons. The only full attack you have is barbaric blow, which you are taking. I had tested the build with both Ascendant and Soul Blade on PoTD back during 1.1, I was unimpressed with Ascendant as most fights tended to be over before I managed to get to the ascended status. For race I chose Fire Godlike for the extra damage as your health gets low, although I'm not sure it makes a huge difference. There is a Barbarian PL 2 talent called Toughen Up(?), which boosts your defence, that I would recommend. I would also recommend getting the Bloody Links armor from Fort Deadlight which further boosts your defense when you become Bloodied. While Beserker does hide your health, there is a way to approximate where your health is with the Blooded talent, which also causes you to do more damage while bloodied, which is also why you want more defense to survive in that state longer. The real challenge would be nullifying the berserkers confusion so you don't murder your party with your aoes. If you choose Bloody Links as your armor you have Modwyr, party buffs, and consumables as an option.
  12. Yes, and it would've been useful to a lot of people's understanding if the information had been discussed more than a handful of times, and had been an essential part of the game's narrative fabric rather than being thrown at you occasionally. People learn through repetition, which is why presenting the same information many times but with different framing and slight expansion is a standard narrative technique. Just going by this board (and I expect, since this board skews towards obsessive analysis, it's probably better here than average), a lot of people didn't take away what you did about Eothas' plans (obviously anecdotal, but for the purposes of this discussion and how much I care about it, that's good enough). If those plans weren't clearly communicated, that's a problem with the writing regardless of whether you, personally, followed it all without problems. I did in fact put that paragraph in parentheses because it got off topic while contemplating your larger point. Luckily, this isn't debate club, so my Internet Argument Points are safe. Snark aside, I thought I specifically said that while the means and motives were clear, the intended consequences were the part that could be taken as vague (in fact, I did say that, but I suppose I should've devoted more than a passing line to the point). Forgive me if I was vague, I'll rephrase. Eothas' plan can be construed as something like this: Step 1: Possess Adra statue Step 2: Break the wheel Step 3: ??? Step 4: Self-determination? So yeah, I think it's understandable how people could look at that and think, "wow that's a pretty vague plan." It's not the sole correct reading, but it's a reading. (Mind you, this is all a very "I think I can safely say I speak for others when I say," line of reasoning I've presented, so it's intrinsically specious on those grounds. It is what it is.) People do not learn by repitition, they memorize by repetition. Memorization does not equate to learning. I can memorize every movement in Mozart's ninth symphony, but that doesn't mean I understand it. Can memorization lead to learning? Yes, but with the average population would not.
  13. You asked if someone could ask on Owlcat's forums, and he gave you the Pathfinder rules about carrying capacity. There is not anything obnoxious about that. Are there issues with the way Pathfinder handles capacity? Yes. Say you have a Wizard with 8 Strength, your capacity is going to be pretty low. However, if you happen to be carrying around 5k gold, you're going to be over if not close to that capacity. Woe be the pack rat in your group... Of course, they could go the PoE route and give you a stash that you can access, but it would be better if they gave you a caravan/wagon to hold it all.
  14. We don't need another take on a male wizard being turned into a female one. Elminster was enough.
  15. Well that's really the problem with most RPG video game adaptions of D&D, the combat is rarely turn based. In all iterations of the tabletop, the combat is turn based with each side rolling turn initiative for turn order at the start of the fight.
  16. I've always seen the PoE gods as analogous to the Greek Gods, they Express the worst aspects of humanity paired with their respective domains. This is best shown in the endings for PoE if you pledge to help a God, but then renege on it. In Greek myths, the figures are generally related to the gods in some way. For example, Hercules and Perseus were demigods who achieved their feats with the favor/disfavor of the Gods. Even Kratos in God of War turned out to be the son of Zeus, that gained the use of numerous weapons/powers that were granted by the Gods, which he then used to brutally massacre everyone he even glanced at. The Watcher is not a demigod, s/he/it may be more powerful than most Kith, but there is absolutely no way that the Watcher would be able to physically defeat a God. Even Rauatai, with their love of things that go boom, would never be able to defeat a God. Sadly, we never get to see them try and fail. For the White March, I felt that the argument with Ondra was only won when you mention that the Eyeless would have to massacre the entirety of the Dyrwood, Readceras, or everyone that even heard of the Battery. Ondra aquiesing was more about the response to her genocide, than actually being convinced she was wrong.
  17. The problem with Minsc is that if you ever play a FR Tabletop game where your character happens to be from Rashemen, everyone in the group will make comments that your character is supposed to be a ****ing retard. It gets worse if your character is a druid. The reality being that if Minsc really did come from Rashemen one of the shamans would have had him executed for being weak long before he ran into CharName.
  18. Before you get to the Vault quest for the Bardatto's, you have to have had the conversation with both families about a peaceful resolution. As long as you don't have the final conversation with Atello you can do the vault quest, then loot the vault for Rannig's Wrath, and then head over to Atello for a peaceful resolution.
  19. Oh boy, someone that's going to be even more hated than Durance.
  20. The tone Athena had when she turned Arachne into a spider for beating her at a contest, issued by Athena, is that of a whiny teenager. "I challenged you to a contest and lost, now you're a spider bitch! Also I ripped up what you weaved because it was better than mine".
  21. In Pathfinder Sorcerers come with Bloodlines which grant bonus spells, bonus feats, and bonus abilities. There are at least 20 of them in the Tabletop, no idea how many they have in the game, probably just three.
