R.I.P. non-wizard trinkets.
-
I don't think so. The main instance I can thing of in which Liches were connected to necromancy and cold is Warcraft 3, and that was because their creator just so happened to be stuck in a frozen throne in the coldest part of the world. It goes earlier than that. Chill touch in BG1 is a necromancy spell. Chill of the grave and all that. But Chill touch wasn't a 'frost' spell per say, it dealt necrotic damage, did it not? Less about 'brrrrr it's cold' and more about 'ghostly hand poking you in the eye'

Bows should still scale with strength (properly using a bow, requires a LOT of upper body strength, A LOT! Especially something like a high tension longbow). Crossbows and guns, yeaaaah, i'd imagine they shouldn't scale with one's strength (though i could see the crossbows being faster to reload if you had higher strength, but this is getting all too overly complicated already) However, i do feel that maybe we should put the importance of gameplay mechanics above realism in this case. And let's not try to break unbroken things that don't really need fixing.

I've no access to the Beta myself, so i can't really check that out, buuuuuuut something's been nagging me for quite some time. In Pillars 1, there was this very annoying thing (at least annoying for me), in that every time you put on a hat, your character would become bald (not a problem if you're playing a bald character though). I guess it was bearable for the most part, but only due to the camera being so far way and the fact that you only really saw your character model up-close on level up screens, but in Pillars 2 there seems a lot more occasions at which you see your character up-close and the models themselves are much more detailed, which would probably lead to them becoming bald much more jarring. I mean, i'm not asking for every single hair-style to have a unique model when wearing hats, but just having a few alternative models to the pure bald head would go a long way. Heck, simply adding a texture to the bald head, to make it look like short hair, which would work for pretty much every single short-hairstyle and for the long-hairstyles, one could add a simple ponytail that wouldn't clip with the hats in addition to the textured head. I don't think i'm asking for much, am I?

Variable Background Skill Bonuses
Juodas Varnas replied to Tamerlane's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
If it was up to me, the background (both the culture and profession) wouldn't have any effect on your skills or stats (they'd be purely for RP purposes) . . . I would probably remove the skills from classes as well. Just give the people the number of skills and let them build their own characters, i say. I mean, all of the skills seem pretty universal and don't really seem like they should be dependent on your characters class/background. -
Thoughts on Wizard Summoned Weapons
Juodas Varnas replied to JerekKruger's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I agree about Magran and Eothas getting burning lash and Berath keeping the corrosive one, but i feel that maybe Shocking would fit Skaen the most, mostly because he's often associated with torturers and executioners (you know, like the Electric chair?), and then for Wael i'd give it random lash, because life is like a box of chocolates. -
What keep? Last I heard he completely destroys it, and there is also the enormous hole in the ground he would leave busting his way out that everything probably eventually collapses into. Something tells me that we won't be rebuilding this keep again. 1. He goes back in the hole 2. Put dirt over said hole 3. Build new keep. 4. ??? 5. PROFIT

If it was up to me, i probably wouldn't add throwing weapons per say, but work in those mechanics (from Tyranny, i mean) into the magical implements and magic staves (which aren't really a thing in Pillars, but whatever). Ranged attacks at range, but switch to melee up close. Though, to be honest, i think 'throwing' weapons could be a cool ability for Fighters or Rogues. Like an ability to chuck your mainhand weapon like a boomerang (or a lightsaber, eh?) or throwing like multiple daggers in a cone as a Rogue.

Thoughts on Wizard Summoned Weapons
Juodas Varnas replied to JerekKruger's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
The same. Compared to PoE1 they are very weak. Concelhaut's Staff and Firebrand were especially dissapointing. No one is going to spend an ability point + spell slot + 6s of casting to just summon a basically mundane staff / great sword. As was already mentioned, in PoE1 these had much higher base damage. Plus their summoning was a fast cast followed by no recovery. That's 0.966s at 10 DEX. Not to mention that summoning weapons from items (like Firebrand from Forgemaster gloves) was even faster, basically instant. Well, Priests of Eothas won't be given a choice not to get the Firebrand. I'm really hoping that gets changed, because i really feel that the Firebrand doesn't fit the class entirely (especially since Eothas is all about Flails and Morning Stars, so here - take a giant bloody sword) If anything Firebrand seems more like a Magran thing (but that could be just me having Durance always run around with the forgemaster's gloves) -
Summoned weapons: Universal but not for the Devoted?
Juodas Varnas replied to AndreaColombo's question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
*Shrug* It does kinda make sense to me though. I mean, i think it would be really stupid if you could completely ignore the Devoted's penalty by using "universal" weapons of different types. -
If it was up to me, i'd definitely try to make it so that Conjurers would actually get to choose what familiar they want to have at character creation, with each having different bonuses. There could also be familiar-specific spells. Something like "Switch places", where your character would switch places with the familiar (especially if the familiar was immune to engagement and relatively fast moving, it could be used defensively), heck, maybe even spells that empowered or transformed the familiars into more fearsome forms for a duration, making them more effective combatants (like, if the familiar is a small wurmling, the spell would turn it into a drake, if it's a kitten, it would turn it into a lion, and so on). Also, i don't know about the Ogre transformation, from what i've seen, it seemed kinda... boring. I wish it was something more like Sauron from the Shadow of Mordor games (i know, i know, the games pretty much butcher Lord of the Rings lore and the newest one is an awful microtransaction machine, but the transformation sequence is pretty cool)

I think in POE2 you will want to collect them because they will give various bonuses, sort of like another trinket. Also, I believe Concelhaut's Skull will return. Well, if Liches in PoE work in at least similar way to the way they work in DnD, Concelhaut should return completely, if his phylactery (which is his skull, from my understanding) is left intact for long enough. I quite liked Concelhaut in PoE, he seemed pretty wizard. Was kinda bummed out we had to pummel him into the ground and rip his head off, like it was Mortal Kombat or something.

Lore Master Like Original Sin
Juodas Varnas replied to theBalthazar's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Well, the ???s get filled in as you kill the enemies. Though, i would like that if you were able to read books about the monsters in-game and that would also fill in the blanks. -
Portraits
Juodas Varnas replied to iscalio's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Grieving MILF should've been a romance option. Just saying. Something about that Thousand-yard stare, lol *cough* on a more serious note, i don't really see much in common apart from the camera angle and the long dark hair. The facial features are quite different. -
Resolve! Huh, What is it good for?
Juodas Varnas replied to KDubya's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I'd just increase the Deflection/Will bonuses to compensate, or maybe have something like... Resolve decreasing the duration of negative effects? Nevertheless, i'm just really hoping there aren't any useless "dump stats", because that's something i really liked about PoE 1, all of the stats had a purpose (of course you COULD dump some of the stats to min-max the others, but min-maxers are gonna min-max, whatchagonnado?) -
I think i remember them mentioning it in one of the Q/As, saying that Unarmed is really good already and doesn't need it (or something along those lines). At least, i think that's the case. I might be misremembering or imagining things.
