Terrain effects?
Hassat Hunter replied to rjshae's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I doubt each individual tree will be a 3D rendering... I suspect it will be more akin to the BG2 end sequence forests. Even if not, there isn't actual "depth" for characters to move, so they can't shoot past the side of a tree (since these sides don't exist), they would have to move past the tree to fire. Leaving them full open and exposed. So yeah, I don't see it working in an environment like PE's -
Morrowind...aka WTF happened Bethesda
Hassat Hunter replied to Metabot's topic in Computer and Console
I generally liked Morrowind, so got the special Oblivion pack right away hoping more of the same. Most dissapointing purchase in my life. :/ Can't speak of Skyrim since I rather wait for the Gold version with all DLC for a steal price to compensate that I gave Bethesda waaaay too much money for their crappy Oblivion. -
@ Tick; Don't worry, your not the only one who thinks ME2 is the worst of the 3, exactly for those reasons... too much cut, too little story, super-filler. They clearly made ME a trilogy without any idea beforehand what to tell as story. Hoping for a Star Wars, they instead got... Mass Effect...

Terrain effects?
Hassat Hunter replied to rjshae's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I'd agree with most... good for TBS, not so great here. The height advantage could be good, I don't really see the rest. Especially as one cannot handle where one is. If on a forest map, it would suck if all your rangers instantly became useless since "trees = no ranged combat", wouldn't you say? It's not like you can park them out the forest if the map is forest. Fine with druids having certain bonus to certain terrain (perhaps chosen on creation, so you can pick forest or water or something else, instead of having all) -
Filler / Grind Quests
Hassat Hunter replied to Solonik's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Filler for filler is bad. They got enough gamecontent not to need it I hope. Things like selling wolf pelts to the vendor or bandit scalps are fine, since they are not really quests. "fetch 50 scalps" however, no, not really... -
1. No. Arriving always at day sucks. The unpredictability (day or night?) adds a lot of mood rather than always ariving 9AM prompt like your some kind of office worker. 2. This isn't TES. I doubt quest-givers just stand in wind and rain waiting for one hero to pass... 3. Why "valuable daylight hours"... night can be good too. I see an anti-night bias. I think manually setting an hour rather than having 4 options would be better... much more freedom that way, and manuvarability. Of course seeing point 1, that's not really much wished for here... though I certainly would like to see that.

This sounds like a case of "medicine worse than the disease"... taking D&D as base a player with a seed of 1 will be screwed... all game long. The player with seed 20 will succeed at everything. If it uses a system like random number 0-10 and each check has 10 different values based on the seed... WASTED DEVELOPER TIME! Seriously, why is this an issue? I much rather have less random elements out of combat (no rolls, just a lockpick requirement) than this. Same result, not the same crap/time to implent.

Yup, 2 similtanious cities is best. Not one replacing the other. I do think having them on the same power level would be bad though. More have one first, then the other, but you are send back on occassions to places you couldn't visit before (think revisit of Athklata in BG2, but grander). Also have to say I think BG2 got progressively worse after Athklata, not better, as is the OP's opinion...
-
Makes me think of KOTOR1. Power level was about right there... and thus, all party members not Jedi generally where useless. KOTOR2 fixed that by making non-Jedi as powerful as Jedi (or just plain Jedi), except for the droids. T3 has super overpowered gear to compensate. So yeah, I think it shouldn't be taken into account. Leave story and character power seperate.

Combat and/or story?
Hassat Hunter replied to Frisk's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Definitely story. Combat can get really in the way if there's just too much of it... as most games do prove (KOTOR2, Dragon Age: Origins, endgame of PS:T and BG2) -
By turning combatants on & off and/or changing them to increase the both the general combat difficulty (easy enemy vs harder enemy) and/or strategicly (replacing melee with mages or vice versa) and/or adjusting the combat mechanics (scripting what those enemies will do). It may be a relatively simple statement but I think it clearly indicates the manner in which they will handle encounters at different difficulties. I apparently did. So my suggested system is already in? That's pretty sweet. Sorry to waste a topic on it then... :/

Randomness? Not that much a fan of it. It's more to my liking if you get a limited amount of time to set up your defenses. Or can only do so few quests before the zombies invade. You can't do everything before the zombies arrive, but atleast you did what you could. And the consequences depend on what you did, rather than a randomniser. Which I think allows one to make it much more personal. And replayable.

Well, if you went with "instead of fixing it I will leave the situation for multiple ingame weeks" you should expect things to have deterioted. It's what I expected in DA:O, so I definitely didn't pick the mages option when I hadn't visited it yet. Common sense prevented me from picking it. So, if you are not using your common sense and pick stupid options, I don't agree it shouldn't go unpunished. As long as the game remains finishable.

Memory Space Issue on Disc
Hassat Hunter replied to silber22's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
You are installing it properly to the harddrive right. Rather than trying to stick a mod onto your playdisk? -
That would be awesome... but probably unfeasible for this title for now...

Potions Suck and Here's Why
Hassat Hunter replied to anubite's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
TW1 only had toxic... you could use them whenever you wanted. It worked fine. TW2 on the other hand only allowed using potions while meditation... and it sucked. Generally forcing you to die and reload to use the right potion, since never did you get any clear indication of what might be waiting for you and the proper potion to use for that. TW1? Good. TW2? Bad. -
Update #30: How Stuff is Made
Hassat Hunter replied to Adam Brennecke's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Nothing new for most of us here. But I suppose many KS backers aren't that hardcore as us, so they would get some new info from that. Aside from the chart, which helps everyone . Also, if digging deeper into the roles in future upgrades, it makes sense to start at the basics first. Considering the amount (here and on KS) of questioning on QA I would suppose doing that one first would be best. It seems to be the one most ponder about and do not know the exact meaning, somehow. Information could include how they work (not 'playtesting'), why it's not always due to QA if a game is buggy (rushing, deadlines, only high priority fixes in the end etc.), their growing slice during production (much larger in the end), the how-and-what of day 0 patches (even if PE wont have that) and there's probably a whole lot more to think about than I just said there and can recall as things to clarify to the masses...- 80 replies

Respectful discussion
Hassat Hunter replied to Ralewyn's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It can be pretty annoying to talk to people who just plainly do not read your post... it's... hard. Aside from that, the discussions generally stay pretty civil here, no complains there. Joke threads maybe a bit too many now. And I stayed clear of the romance discussion... If I am being mean, demeaning or inflamatory (of which I am sometimes accused) it's never really intentional. Also really good to see the activity died down a bit around here... the amount of topics to read through before could get insane. It's a lot more managable now. In the end I assume only the most interested in PE remain, and that could spark interesting discussions...- 37 replies

More Sub-Forums?

Most mechanic discussions are hold in general anyway. I don't mind, I use recent posts anyway instead of using the forums itself -
Armor Slots and Clothing
Hassat Hunter replied to Xaratas's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I don't think like DA:O a stripped person should be naked. Plain clothed BG makes much more sense. I suppose more slots than BG can be possible. However I rather not use Drakensangs system where some arm items are gloves. Some greaves. Some gloves/greaves. And full armor overwrote them all (and thus, by definition was absolutely worthless, since it was never more than the sum of parts you could wear)... -

A Collection of Forum Discussions
Hassat Hunter replied to Osvir's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
This threads getting kind hard to read as such. Maybe it's indeed better to make a new post with all up to date info, ask the mods to lock and sticky it, and once in a while ask them if they want to update it with new information. Of course you'll have to find a mod who wants to do that all the time. (just a suggestion)
