Modwyr becomes Unique after you finish its quick and easy quest. Lord Darryn's Voulge used to be great but got nerfed (thnx OBS). There is no exaggeration in saying that every one of these weapons is worse than at least one of their Unique counterpart. Just look at the facts. Blightheart straight loses to both Dragon's Dowry and The Red Hand, Magistrate's Cudgel effects are useless, and Marux Amanth is a clear downgrade from Pukestabber because its effects have very low proc rate (becuz baluns).

I'm having trouble understanding your point, even though I really want to. Apparently to make money from games, one shouldn't be in game business (how does that work?) and absolutely cannot have any free time at all. In the real world, you can be a successfull game developer and still frolic with the dwarves all you want. -

Quite right... I avoid EA almost out of principle. We need more principled gamers. With my principles, of course. Also this and this, while we're at it. I'd love to do the same. Truly. But I can't, because I love Star Wars too much -

Marketing has little to do with this. Is it so hard to understand that some people - many people actually - prefer Harry Potter to Animal Farm? And if that makes them a lesser person in your eyes, is that their problem, or yours? You are free to have an opinion, as is everyone else, but the moment you try to push your opinion as a fact, you just lose credibility in a discussion. Success IS measured by money, because gaming industry is no different than any other business. Fun does not put food on the table (or a porsche in the garage), but big sales and smart microtransactions do. Look at EA. They treat their players like garbage. They've been voted the worst company in the US a few years in a row. How did it affect their profits? They keep getting bigger. And why? Because they don't need to have a heart to be good at their jobs. -

Funny how you say things like "could have been one of the great games" or "deadfire is a better game", when DOS sold around 1.7 million copies and was a smashing hit, especially for its budget. Pillars 1 and Deadfire combined might reach that number.. eventually The game had great narrative, fantastic characters, combat that actually required using a brain.. I started the game on a ship, in just my underwear. Near the end, my waifu was singing a song on a demon's corpse. A demon who previously possessed her. Not to mention that other characters have great personal quests too. It kinda lost pace near the end, yeah, but it did not really impact my overall experience. It triggers my funny bone each time someone mentions balance. Realize already that single player games without competitive environment don't give a **** about balance. They might patch some stuff up sometimes, but Obsidian is the only company that tries to do MMO balancing on a single player game. And somehow their games aren't breaking selling records because of that. Shocking I know. -

Ok fair enough. Going purely by the definition you are right of course. Doesn't change the fact that the game was worth its price. -

So are you saying that Original Sin 2 is not AAA in its category? Which other cRPG game released over the last 5 years is better? And try to be objective. -

I could probably get rich by mining and selling all this salt.. Dibs. Oh, so what games have you recently played that had an engaging story, excellent worldbuilding and good writing, because Deadfire has none of those? I'm looking for suggestions. EDIT: Other than Divinity: Original Sin 2, already played that -
A character is good when he or she is memorable. How you react to a character is highly subjective. Obviously in every game there are better and worse characters.. Mazzy was bland AF, Keldorn wasn't much better, and I actually disliked Imoen, so after saving her I was like "ok now bye, get out of this place yourself". I never said that every single character in BG2 was well written, just saying that some of them I consider iconic to this day, and nostalgia has nothing to do with it. It simply because they left a mark, because I remember their quests, quotes, sometimes voices, despite playing tons of other games since then. If we're using Mass Effect as an example, Mordin was such a character. Wrex and Garrus too, kinda. Minsc was not supposed to be complex. He was supposed to be a fun and amusing caricature, and he fulfilled that role very well. Would you prefer if every character was a brooding emo Fenris?

Two years of balancing POE1 resulted in a game where you could pick any number of Paladins and Chanters and kill everything with passive aura damage. But at least that one ranged weapon in WM2 was nerfed because it was too strong.
