  1. Lack of alternatives. No one else makes games like these anymore (though I heard some are coming).
  2. Definetly. POE1 had some epic tracks. Everything in Deadfire is just.. not interesting in comparison.
  3. After 130 hours spent playing Deadfire, the only memorable audio-related things for me are shanties and the music that is played when you board an enemy ship. I don't even remember any other, to the point that I recently disabled audio completely and just run Spotify. After 130 hours man! IMO Deadfire's music is one of the worst things about this game.
  4. Yep. Unfortunately, not many developers create these kind of games. If Deadfire had actual DIRECT competition on the market, we would be probably posting on a different forum right about now. But since nobody else cares about isometric RTwAP game fans, we have to take what we get..
  5. I really question the relevance of these kind of decisions. I mean how are we supposed to use these kind of effects in a meaning way? I didn't expect the situation to regress further - Originally we are getting 10-30% procs, then nerfs to 5%. And now 1%??? What's next? Triggers of 1 per game? I don't understand the thought process behind 'balancing' a single player game. Difficulty adjustments so that PotD isn't trivial, sure, and fixing the skills that could permanently combo off of each other, but then they do weird things like cutting the Baubles of the Fin damage buff from 5% to 3% or cutting DoC's recovery reduction by half. And that's not even getting into what happened to poor Charge. Kilay said elsewhere on the forums that it just creates more problems for modders, as people ask for mods to revert changes. The problem, for me, was never having overpowered or broken items, it was the enemies not being equipped or built to make the best use of the combat system. #justobsidianthings It's MUCH easier to tweak some numbers than to rewrite the AI to do a better job in combat. It's also easier for the developer to nerf stronger things than buff weak ones, because the latter's effect cannot be predicted, while the former will - at worse case scenario - make an ability useless, which seems to be acceptable. I'm honestly not surprised that they're doing it this way. It is, of course, still a **** move, but I've been saying that since the first patch. Nobody cares and nothing will really change.
  6. Umm the OP part is the Terrify proc because the only thing it requires is for you to get attacked..
  7. Playing solo is an option if you feel like it, not something the game was balanced for.
  8. Critic reviews are useless. Most of them are created without a clear picture in mind, because due to time constraints the guy has limited time to play the game. Paid advertising is a thing too. Myself, I tend to pay more attention to user reviews.
  9. It's not that I like that name, I'm just indifferent. I got used to these games treating me kinda like no one important. I can't really get into RP if my character doesn't speak, for example. I'd personally trade my multiple dialogue choices (out of which 90% I will never use anyway) for a dialogue wheel from DA2/Mass Effect if it means my character getting personality and a voice. Unpopular opinion, I know.
  10. I feel like their philosophy is to make nerfs before buffs to avoid power creep, and they have their own ideas on how to do this best (also possibly suggestions from misguided external QA). I feel the impact of their changes isn't even tested, all they do is make sure that it works as described. This also looks like an attempt at making the game harder: if you nerf all of the best damage options, the players will struggle more. Worst part is, they don't really offer you an alternative, so you are stuck with mediocresness no matter what. If this game was sold on Google Play Store, everyone would be entitled for a full refund after every major patch, but Steam doesn't give a ****.
  11. I don't see any actual reasons. Just bad jokes. Here, I can do that too. I don't have a name, but how is that possible, didn't my mom give me one? It's hard to fill an invoice like that :/ I should be called Unspecified Name instead, it sounds more menacing. Why am I a "Warden", is it because I "ward" something, pretty sure I don't. They should just call me "Harden", it's more manly and has more room for magnificent puns! See?
  12. You mean the first Baldur's Gate? Yes, and it sucked ass. Basically everyone in that game was like a Deadfire sidekick, even characters important to the story. Why would you want something so bland.
  13. Relationship system is one of the main features of every modern, western RPG game.
  14. How is it any worse than being called Nameless One or Warden?
  15. I feel like Combusting Wounds is also not worth it on fights that end quickly (which is 9 out of 10). Why dot a group when you can blow it up instead
  16. Isn't this only true if the fight ends very quickly though? I found Merciless Gaze to be the most important buff for my Wizard, at least for every fight that doesn't end after he casts two spells. With high DEX, the cast time isn't even that high.
  17. Equip Voidward and Ring of Greater Renegeration and you can forget about self damage.
  18. I haven't read up about it, but I'm pretty sure this bug has a trigger. Sometimes the boss shows up. Sometimes he does not. I think last time I skipped him, I charged straight ahead into the storm and ignored everyone else. Currently what bugs me (ha!) the most is the disappearing point of interest that allows me to leave the location. Recently I've had a very unpleasant Neketaka experience in which I was struggling to get out of buildings and change zones :/
  19. Some surprising opinions here. Every companion in OS2 was written better than any of the Deadfire ones, and each of them had their own, conflicting goal instead of following some "watcher" like sheep. Their personal quests are better in every way. Fane and Red Prince put any of the Deadfire hobos to shame. Goddamn Lohse sings you an epic song at one point. If you don't develop positive relationships, they will turn on you at one point, because - like I said - each one of them has their own personal goal that conflicts with yours. The last two Acts felt kinda rushed, but the first two were a masterpiece. Combat on the highest difficulty was appropriately challenging (before Apotheosis, that is), itemization gave you a lot of creative freedom when creating builds, and the music was better too. I'm not a big fan of purely turn-based games, unless it's an ATB system (think older Final Fantasy), but in case of this game I actually enjoyed it a lot. The game sold extremely well twice in a row, that's excluding enhanced editions. I cannot even imagine what would they have to do to make OS3 even better.
