Combat is **** now becuase you can spam all abilities non stop. Because of there being little scarcity all abilities feel "cheap" It is just stupid being able to recharge youself with a stupid cheesy tacky recharge button According to you. I like it. And there are topics on the forum already that clearly show that most people prefer Deadfire combat over POE1. Would you prefer cooldown mechanic from Tyranny instead? Not to mention that even with Empower restore, you will run out of abilities if you just spam them. And again, like a broken record: don't click the button if you don't want to. Nobody is forcing you to use it. Exactly that is the problem - some classes are just screwed by Empower. How often are you running out of resources? If you mean "i can't use spell 4 times in row" i think that's intended, because why would you use spells other than your preferred ones? But i agree, running out of resources is large problem esp. up to the point where you meet Aloth. There IS a "legit" to regenerate resources during fight - have a Cipher. He can provide buff that restores resources, and Ascendant can quickly apply it to entire party if you set up his AI Edit: I'd love to see "attrition" encounters that will force player to think twice about saving abilities vs spamming them, but only if these encounters are optional. Running out of resources is a bigger problem for melee classes. High level casters usually use Empower on damage instead, because they have a lot of spells to cast. I know Brilliant inspiration exists, but currently only one class has it and needs to reach mid-game levels to use it. You would prefer to be forced to carry a Cipher with you in every single run instead of having Empower restore? I doubt that. Implementing attrition based combat is impossible because it would require completely rewriting game mechanics. Maybe in POE3.

Without Empower regenerating resources, combat would be ****, because you would have to auto attack for most of it. That's just boring. I'd gladly trade Empower for a way for every class to regenerate resources passively, but I bet my ass they won't implement such a huge change. One thing I don't like is that it's not fair that some classes have no good way to use Empower offensively. Basically, other than offensive casters and single class Monk, other classes just use it for resource regen. But this is due to the fact that many abilities simply don't work with Empower at all, which is lame.

The difference is that "god mode" is not a part of this game's mechanics. You're comparing something that is a part of the gameplay to cheating with the console, it's silly. Using Empower doesn't make you immortal. Just because there are people that think a mechanic is broken, doesn't mean that everyone should lose access to it. So instead of trying to ruin the game for people that have a different opinion, just don't click the damn button if it offends you so much.

Alright, thanks man. Thankfully I'll have Eder and Xoti to help get past the first island. And by the DLC robe, do you mean Vatnir's? Definitely looks good - that's 15% bonus damage fully upgraded with Kuaru's Prize (AKA, 5 Might insofar as damage goes). I just wish there were a way to glamour different pieces of gear, because that looks a little too shamanistic for the character I was going for. Yes, that robe. Sometimes you have to choose between power and looks

It's very fun, don't listen to haters. First island is rough because you have very little spells, but after you get some levels, the game becomes fun. DEX, PER and INT are all more important than MIG though. I highly recommend Leap boots (it's not very fun when the boss decides that it's time for a Wizard snack). For weapons, the best combo is Griffon's Blade + Sun and Moon, later you can use the Chronolongnameiforgot Staff if you prefer. You don't need Bitter Mooring and Frozen Pillar, go Evoker. Whitewitch Mask was my headgear of choice, for improved survivability; don't expect that you will never get hit. I prefer pets that improve my spellcasting (I believe I was using a cat with AoE and damage) so consider using a robe (the DLC one is very good).

I always do something like this with Palegina. Difference is, I use Reckless Brigandine because Patinated Plate slows you down too much, take Sacred Immolation and Shared Flames, and grab a Chanter summon. Also Voidward as the second ring, and that medium shield with heal aura (forgot the name). I was also experimenting with Kapana Taga offhand, as it is a great tank weapon, but I like having at least one character with a shield in the group. I feel like the dragon chant is kinda poop in Deadfire so I was running fire lash/improved healing instead.

What if someone only eats pizza and hates burgers? He eats classic pizzas because nobody ever creates any new ones. And when somebody finally does, it turns out to be rotten. In this particular comparison, a person unwilling to try the burger can only go back to the classic pizzas. Which is unfortunate. Also there are people around here who don't really play anymore but still stick around to know what's going on. And maybe wait for DLCs and such. People always complain, that's what everyone's best at. But to be fair, this game gives you a lot of legit reasons to do so.
