No buffing outside of combat, why?
Noted, it sounds like an excuse some lazy programmer told a designer and that was relayed to the community . The fact it was there was probably helped them with encounter design though, since, every battle you start at a known state.

No buffing outside of combat, why?
Which I have yet to see any truth in at all. Why would there be problems with one set of buffs, but not other sets of buffs? Food, Rest and Aura buffs persists through saves just fine, but another kind of buff would not? Oh please. I suspect there is no truth to it at all. You do not design mechanics like this around the limitations of an engine. If there was such a limitation, Obsidian would have roled their own "saving of the game state" code, which is likely what they did anyway, not for the reasons Gairnulf stated though.
- Any way to make characters more distinct?

Expansion in two parts
Paradox does have this reputation but it is mostly by those who don't actually understand how Paradox builds their DLCs. Each main DLC adds a large amount of new gameplay unlike the traditional DLCs other publishers put out. Additionally, with each major DLC, many new free features are added to the base game that are available to players who never pay for said DLC. No They don't. Just look at Crusader Kings II. There is DLC containing 3 music pieces or 20 new portraits and stuff like that. Speaking of Crusader Kings 2, major DLCs include: Sword of Islam, Legacy of Rome, Republic, Old Gods, Sons of Abraham, Rajas of India, Charlemagne and Way of Life. Those all add large chunks of gameplay. That's true but also you have to admit there is like 40 -50 more which should really be the part of the game. Charging for extra songs and putting 5 tracks into original game so you will be bored to death is not a nice policy. You continue to be untruthful, the Crusader Kings 2 original soundtrack had over 20 tracks that clock in at just short of an hour and half of music. Of course, when the average user playtime is 100+ hours, I suspect things might get a little dull in the music department. Which is the exact reason they released those music packs, they are also available for free places like Spotify and Paradox's own YouTube channel.

Soloing PoE : Sucess so far ( Hard Dificulty Expert Mode )
Why not? You put the hood on in the cutscene.

PoE - Sales figures STEAM
Except, this is just looking at who owns the game, which would include a good chunk of the 77k original backers. I had 6x copies (1x Royal and 5x Hero editions) , all which have been redeemed on Steam which gave Obsidian and Steam no new sales.
-
Why the hype?
Maybe if the original poster had helped fund the Kickstarter, it would have got to more companion stretch goals.
- Stronghold Hirelings "currently unpaid" and Treasury Bugs

Giving Away 2 copies on my YouTube Channel
Final bump, giveway ends in 4 hours.

Can I play a necromancer
Priest of Skaen, maybe a Cipher?
-
Ordered from Paradox store
I ordered Cities: Skylines from the Paradox Store, I am pretty sure I did not get the key until an hour before the game was released.
-
Steam vs GoG redemption ?
poor Icewind Dale 2, we hardly knew thee
-
Redeemed wrong edition
I think you can always buy the upgrade to the Royal Edition.
-
Anyone else avoided the hype entirely?
To me, going into games blind is usually the best way, I always enjoy them more that way so kudos to you.

Just got the POE Guide Book Volume 1
I've made this mistake before !

Giving Away 2 copies on my YouTube Channel
No problem, good luck.

Deciding on a starting character.
It's a hard choice, I always played a sorcerer in BG1 and BG2 for RP reasons, feel the same with PoEt. I am thinking Priest (of Skaen) or Cipher.

This is the portrait I use for my main character that I role play.

One note, considering Torment will use the same engine, I wonder what the possibility of a turn-based mod is in the future. "The same engine" doesn't matter as much as you seem to think. Lots of different games that are nothing alike is using Unity as a framework. D:OS is Unity, PoE is Unity, Wasteland 2 is Unity. I mean, look at this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Unity_Engine_games#2015 I'm not saying that it would be impossible to make a turn-based mod, although I would be incredibly surprised if it was reasonably possible, I'm just saying that "the same engine" means nothing. I mean, Angry Birds Epic is apparently Unity. I believe Torment is specifically using tools that Obsidian developed for PoEt though, I was referring to that, not that they were both Unity games. Keys ? When ?
If backer beta release were any sign, it would happen in the late afternoon Pacific time.
