Impossible achievements via Steam
Boeroer replied to Nail's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I don't want to sound like a phony, but any dragon fight is a joke for a full party at Path of the Damned if you know your stuff. There are a lot of videos where solo chars beat all dragons on PoTD without too much fuzz. The real challange for PotD solo are the WMI and II bounties. If Darzir is too difficult for you on PotD solo then there are four possibilities: - Your level is too low (level 10 solo IS too low if you're not using a very powerful build or kite and split like hell) - You don't know all the tricks yet - Your build is not good - Your using the wrong tactics with that class/build of yours For example I went there with a PotD solo lvl 9 barb (dual wielding, max MIG, max CON, dumped DEX and RES) which is not an optimal solo build and it was doable but hard. I decided to do that again but at lvl 11 and it was not that hard any more. Those achievements are not impossible. They are just difficult. And defeat is likely because no quicksave. Some players play ToI like that: they do the same encounter twice. One time on PoTD only and then they replay the same encounter on ToI. That way they can work out the perfect tactic and then apply it in the ToI playthrough. And some just brute-force-quit the game when they feel the fight is lost. Cheesy... but works. -
To solve the "problem" (if you think it is one) you'd only have to put more exciting enchantments (which the player can't apply by himself) on late game weapons. So, for example instead of capping quality enchantments on early game weapons and thus preventing them to reach superb or legendary or whatever, you could introduce more potent and/or special enchantments on late game gear to make them more appealing. This way a player who likes his spear which "only" has higher interrupt than a normal spear can keep using it. It will not be the most potent weapon in the game, but at least it can keep up in terms of quality via enchantments (=acc and damage bonuses). You don't necessarily have to throw it away. In PoE most of the late game stuff wasn't significantly better in terms of cool enchantments - often only in quality. So put more creativity and efford into developing new exciting enchantments instead of putting time and work into a system which takes something away from the game. Edit: and by the way putting a great weapon right at the end of the game is not the best decision in my opinion. Except if you can carry it over to a new playthrough. From the B to the E to the R to the A...

Order to Play the Game Through?
Boeroer replied to B_Dubb_B's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
But WM I will already be way too easy for you. When you do Crägholt first, it will even get worse. And by the way: the Adra Dragon is easy to kill if you know what to do. It's just one hefty boss with a lot of weak adds. The Torn Bannermen and the stuff Concelhaut has are all quite powerful. But it surely is doable at lvl 13. -
Wael's Boon

The secret identity of Wael is actually Dirk Gently... -
Order to Play the Game Through?

Please do Cragholt Bluffs after WM I. It's very tough. Your steward (the lady who is encased in the throne) should have already told you that the Torn Bannermen and Concelhaut are not to be trifled with. -

Let's say you have Steadfast (one handed sword) as main weapon. Then you find Little Saviour (small shield) and want to use it as your main shield with Steadfast. All good. Now you also find Aila Braccia (small shield) which is extremely good when you meet foes who shoot directly at you with missiles and spells - way better than Little Savior, but worse in melee. Now you want to switch between set 1: Steadfast + Little Savior (melee cmbat) and set 2: Steadfast + Aila Braccia (if you meet things like Lagufaeth with blowguns and stuff). But you can't in PoE! You would have to choose a different main weapon. Or you would have to clone Steadfast - which isn't possible without the console and cheating (=deactivating achievements). People wanted to define different weapon sets where you "mirror" the weapons or the shields. You will not have them twice, you just "virtually" place them into different weapon sets so when you switch sets one of them stays and only the other shield/weapon gets switched. Hope that makes sense for you... -
Will you fix the sorting algorithm of the stash - or rather the appliance of the sorting algorithm - so that it no longer starts sorting every time you flip a page? Page flips in the stash take forever if you collected a lot of items in PoE. Mere stacking of xaurip spears and stuff like that and lower drop rates will not fix the problem, that will only be a cosmetic change. You could just save the new order and only trigger sorting when somebody changes the sorting options.

I just want to point out that I only stated my opinion about Berath's Blessing and I also explained briefly why I think it's (partly) a bad idea. I'm not saying that rewards for playing the game are bad. Just that things that make the game easier even though it gets easier automatically because you'll get better just by playing it is not a good idea in my opinion. But that doesn't mean that I don't respect other people's opinions (or even the people themselves) if they don't agree. It's totally fine for me if others like the whole idea. I just want to give constructive criticism. I'm a 40 year old fart male german and I'm very aware that my taste does not match with everybody else's (I like linoleum floors*). It might be optional, but even then it adds a lot of noise to the game when you want tot talk about builds in the forums for example. And even though it's optional, it ill take time and money to implement and thus will influence other features of the game that I might consider more important. Since this is a stretch goal discussion, alternative opinions might come in handy. Otherwise it would be a stretch goal consent. By the way I don't care too much about steam achievements. I don't think they are bad and I don't think they are good. I kind of like in-game achievements if they are well made. Like unlocking things that don't improve the game mechanics but let you customize the game a bit and help you to show off: styles, fancy outfits, props for your gear (bigger horns for your helmet, wings or fur for your armor), changing graphic effects and so on. That I would totally love to see. Doesn't fit with Berath of course... *) no, not vinyl floors! The natural stuff, linoleum.

Final patch?
Boeroer replied to Lucyllia's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
"Interrupting Patches" was removed with the latest, final patch. I would strongly recommend to buy the two expansions as well. They improve the game a lot and are not sequels like other expansion, but add questlines, areas, new companions, spells, talents and abilites as well as items to the main game. -
Hm... I don't get it why the cipher should be the no.1 candidate. He can make great use of the accuracy bonus survival can give you since he has to deal damage in order to do CC. Both requires ACC and I would totally miss survival on my ciphers. Against kith (where I can't have bonus acc from survival): when the cipher is doing melee I would want the option of better healing and if he's ranged I would want more move speed. A buffing priest for example neither needs scrolls nor accuracy at all. Durance already has points in mechanics if i recall correctly. But a +1 bonus doesn't matter that much if you go all the way with mechanics.

- Will you rework unarmed combat, namely Novice's Suffering and Transcendent Suffering? The way it is done now results in nearly the same damage for grazes, hits an crits because all damage modifiers only apply to the whimpy base damage and not to the bonus that the Suffering talents will give you. This also makes things like Savage Attack, Sneak Attack and all other base damage modifiers a bad pick for unarmed characters. - Will there be throwing weapons? - Wouldn't it be better if chaining commands (shift+click) would result in a visible queue or something like that? - Will you allow to enchant other items than weapon, armor & shield? Like headgear perhaps? Pretty please?

I think it's kind of bad. What's not to like? Let's say you did a PoTD run, then another, then another one. You will get better and better with this game because your meta knowledge will grow, you will grasp all the mechanics and tricks, you will figure out game breaking builds and so on. AND you will have more attribute points and high level items to make the game even more boring. I can see that options like "make the game harder" make sense, but keeping items or even gain more attribute points seems to be a bad idea. What they could do is to unlock cool new designs for equipment, alternative effects for spells (green fireball or whatever), style enchantments, secret companions or pets for the new playthroughs and so on. That would motivate me to play another round. No getting more attribute points or starting with Blade of the Endless Paths, Acuan Giamas or Twin Sting. Feels cheesy. But that's just my opinion.

Erm - I just stated my opinion in a rather unemotional way and hope others do, too. It's a way for OBS to see if things they made up are getting positive or negative feedback. I never said they shouldn't do it, just that I don't like the idea (especially as a stretch goal). This may even change if they specify their ideas for Berath's Blessing. But what I heard so far doesn't appeal to me. Nobody has to agree to that.
