The strongest beta build
Paladin + Beckoner is still my no. 1 because of Shared Flames + Aefyllath Ues Mith Fyr giving all summons and party members in range a +45% lash. I mean besides broken stuff like Kalakoth's Minor Blights or Spirit Lance + Swift Flurry or Soul Annihilation + Spirit Lance.

Two handed style seems weak
Has anyone tested if dual welding gets the +1 PEN bonus from Scion of Flame? Or is it Heart of the Storm? I think that two handers should have higher PEN in general.

Having a hard time picking a multiclass for my cipher that fits his background: high tech, gun-using, pro-animancy
A Chanter plays a lot more reactive in Deadfire. They start combat with phrases and there are ways to speed up phrase collection (Skalds gain phrases on melee crit, Troubadours can use Brisk Recitation which is +100% collection speed and so on). Also a Skald pays less phrases for offensive invocations and a Beckoner pays less for summons. Phrases now all have the same base length - they don't get longer and longer with every level. Compared to other casters' spells Chanters' invocations are pretty fast casts, too.

PoE1 version Scion of flame VS DF one
FoD has it. Bleak Walker's FoD even has Fire, Acid and can get +2 PEN from Scion of Flame + Spirit of Decay. I know of no other ability which has two or even three elemental keywords, but maybe there are some. Kalakoth's Minor Blights won't work I guess.

So give it to me straight about 'classic' single-class Wizards
Also remember Shining Beacon with high INT, MIG and ACC. Priest: one of the best nukers in PoE.

Try out Minor Blights or Citzal's Spirit Lance + cipher and evaluate again. Except Mith Fyr can add a 25% lash to your weapon which will grant additional focus, Killers Froze Stiff will paralyze in an AoE so you don't need to waste focus and casting time for Mental Binding or similar or you can use Come Sweet Winds or Ancient Memory (later Courage Thick as Steel) to become a very sturdy cipher. Sure Handed Ila reduces the reload time of your gun, Hel-Hyraf and Hammering Thoughts stack for +3 PEN... stuff like that. I had a lot of fun withg a Beguiler/Trickster (tons of CC options with rel. fast casting times) - he's not top notch in damage, but he causes hefty CC effects in an AoE nearly 100% of combat with Confounding Blind/Arterial Strike with a rod+Blast and Eyestrike, if targeted properly, gives you back more focus than you spent.

Question on Linux/POE/Development Platform
I'm using Ubuntu for work and my computer has an Intel i7-7700K and a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 - and both PoE and also the beta of Deadfire run as good as on Win 10 (which I also have). Before that I played PoE on an old laptop also running Ubuntu with a Nvidia 555 M and it also worked (with lowest settings). Only thing with PoE is: no visible capes. The plugin for capes in PoE doesn't work on Linux. In Deadfire that problem is solved. Ubuntu will give you no troubles on all machines that are not too new (like yours). Certain USB-hardware like WLAN-sticks or printers can give you trouble nonetheless because there may be no fitting drivers. It's all solvable with a bit of googling and the terminal though. Usually most stuff just runs out of the box.

@MaxQuest: you mean Two Weapon Style I presume.

Do most people really play the hardest difficulty level?
Boeroer replied to Tattyblue's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I didn't try him (and the stupid sand pop-ups) in the new beta yet.

Why no priests of other deities, such as Rymgand, Abydon or Hylea?
Boeroer replied to Stardusk78's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Well with all the gods you can't give them all unique combinations that make sense. Rymrgand may be perceived as merciless, but being without mercy is not the same as being cruel. Also the chat with Rymrgand in Twin Elms shows that mercy is not out of bounds for him. The rational disposition is also described as being "cold" - emotionally. That fits pretty well. At the same time I don't know if stoic fits 100%, but I can't find anything better. But of course it might be that we will see an aspect of Rymrgand that is really cruel. But so far it seems he's just... cold.

Thoughts on new Death Godlike and Nature Godlike abilities?
Boeroer replied to Stardusk78's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)But there are some nice synergies with Death Godlike and Barring Death's Door and the one Paladin ability (always forget the name). Humans' racial ability is limited by duration, Death Goldlikes' is not. Also it's like Berserker/Streetfighter is made for Death Godlike - or the other way round. Blooded + Heating Up + Bloodlust + Frenzy + Bloody Slaughter + Death Godlike racials is fun.

Having a hard time picking a multiclass for my cipher that fits his background: high tech, gun-using, pro-animancy
In PoE they got a special talent that granted +10 ACC to sword and arquebus which put them on the same level of ACC as fighters with those two weapons. In Deadfire there are no weapon focuses for everyone but there are proficiencies which only give you some modals that can be useful in certain situations but are not always beneficial. Everybody can take them. Priests can all summon a special "Spiritual Weapon" now which are kind of in line with the talents of PoE. So magranites can summon a pistol + sword. Those weapons have an automatic lash of 50% (very powerful) and scale with level. At range you can fire the pistol and in melee you can use the sword. Both profit from dual wielding speed bonus even if you only strike with the sword in melee/shoot with the pistol at range.

The strongest beta build
Nice! I also did Confounded Blind + Swift Flurry + blunderbuss in previous tests, but I didn't think about using a Streetfighter. Also, blunderbuss with the upgrade of Hel-Hyraf + Confounded Blind + Sure Handed Ila (Chanter/Streetfighter) could be good I guess?

Chanter Subclasses Discussion
It's supposed to give you +2 health (base) per appliance as long as you hit with it - with the newest beta version 4. The +3 entries in the log seem to fit, but the initial +15 is weird. Maybe bug.

Yes, you can also become a living minigun by using two pistols. In plate armor.

Boeroer replied to Tattyblue's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)You're going there too early. First solve the Poko Whatevara quest, level up and then wander around on the main island.

Magran is about advanced warfare and likes firearms (which are the dernier cri on the battlefield). Faith attuned sword + pistol with the 50% lash generate a lot of focus, too. An awesome source of focus is cipher/wizard with Kalakoth's Minor Blights + one handed weapon in offhand (like dagger). I don't know if it fits the description of neophil though. Maybe you should wait for Serafen and then take away his hand mortar? That seems to be quite the new thing.

Request: Builds that dont rely on gear as much as in Pillars 1.
I didn't take it that way. Just wanted to correct the (maybe accidental) hyperbole. Your idea is good.
