Disappearing Dialogue options - WHAT THE ****!?!?
Tigranes replied to deevius's question in PC Support
Unfortunately, there are very, very few games out there that doesn't cause these kind of small bugs for some people (and then, of course, run flawlessly on other computers). Hope the solution works though. -
Disappearing Dialogue options - WHAT THE ****!?!?
Tigranes replied to deevius's question in PC Support
Try doing a search of the forums - some people have already reported this and fixed it. Try using "Application Controlled" for AA and AF in your graphics card settings. Let us know how that works out... seems to have fixed it for everyone so far. -
Forgot about this - my first playthrough took me between 15 and 20 hours, and I'm usually faster than average. I did Jade Empire in ten. This does include quite a few reloads, I think I had to try to kill Omen Deng a dozen times. It's shorter than the 'big fat' RPGs like Dragon Age (which, actually, only took me ~35....), but not really a 'short' game in the grand scheme of things. Add in replayability and it stacks up well.

Alpha Protocol 2, suggestions.
Tigranes replied to Reg1.1's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
Really? Arguably this was an even harder job than the sequels. With the sequels they already had a template - it was already done very successfully, they just needed to put in a few well-chosen improvements and do it in their own style. Here they had to create everything from scratch while learning a new engine. -
At this point, what conflict of interest could there be? Why wouldn't BP be interested in plugging this asap? Just curious.

This seems to be happening to quite a few people. I just got it myself, and solved it by restarting AP, loading the safehouse (not the mission checkpoint) then doing the mission again... but it seems to be a luck thing at the moment. Hopefully it can be patched out.

Alpha Protocol vs. Deus Ex
Tigranes replied to Zerosaber's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
I like AP a lot more than Deus Ex, I thought DX was a very good game but not this amazing pinnacle of awesome-sauce. In the end its core gameplay (shooting, etc) was quite simple and generic, as were the visuals, somewhat mitigated by good level design. It would not have been a very special game except for the writing/plot and the choices you can make. And on that point, I'd argue AP is stronger - there's more choices & consequences, the game is more built around it. It's certainly not a bad comparison to make - I think I'd tell anyone that enjoyed AP to try DX and vice versa, not so much with ME2 or whatever. -
How to lenghten dialogue countdown
Tigranes replied to Arunak's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
There may be, but nothing has been found yet. Funnily enough, if you fast-forward through dialogue, then you actually get about 5 seconds of people standing idly while the timer ticks down... -
Lord2, you should now be able to go online and de-activate your first activation. It doesn't matter if your installation is gone - you should be able to get it back. Right now, as it's still not the US release, details on how to do this are fuzzy: in fact, I don't think you can yet, but should be able to do so soon:

There's run (LShift), jog, and crouch-walk (LCtrl). Walking animation is there but currently there seems to be no way to enable it in normal gameplay.

the " a tired dev" comment on Joystiq
Tigranes replied to yoomazir's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
Well... I think they earnt the whole 'buggy studio' thing with KOTOR2, but since then they haven't really been buggy. Buggy and polish are different things. I don't think AP is particularly buggy - I mean we're getting some odd things like mouse smoothing, but Dragon Age (and that was one polished motherbugger) shipped with some big bugs and a whole lot of ridiculous DLC troubles. I think it's fair to say that Obsidian products generally aren't as polished as Bio or Bethesda games, but aren't any more buggy. -
*just* the left analog? Because there's a general invert option in-game.

the " a tired dev" comment on Joystiq
Tigranes replied to yoomazir's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
As public as can be reasonably expected? Yeah. I just find the timing quite indicative - you're sort of posting this stuff before the game is even out for a lot of people. To me that's just spiteful - crashing the party when everybody's about to pop the champagne and ranting on about what you didn't like. I'm sure there's a fair chance it's a real dev talking the straight talk, but the timing and method just says to me he's more bitter than anything. *shrug* Not really important in the end. After all, we already know that Obsidian's strong point is story/writing, not polish, and that AP did have a couple of 'do-overs' early on. -
Yeah, just started again and noticed it, now. It does seem to be active at the start...

Ok.. who's up for ALPHA PROTOCOL 2 !
Tigranes replied to khawaja07's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
I think Obsidian really needs to be able to make a couple of releases with the same damn engine... it's surely a large part of the problem. First they had to pick up with Bio did to make KOTOR2, then NWN2, and so on. When you make a new setting and new engine and so forth there's always going to be difficulties. Would be nice to see an AP2 where they can just focus on getting it perfect... of course, since everyone thinks UE3 looks dated already, I guess they'd need a new engine. O_o -
So even if you start the game back in the safehouse and do the mission again, it fails? Smells of corrupt file issue to me, as if game's trying to load environment / VA / etc files and it wasn't installed well.
-
Hey, Is it laggy all the time, or just some of the time? Does the lag seem to be with the game trying to load environments/etc, or dependent on when you do things or move the mouse? Problems with mouse stuttering seem to be widespread, though solutions are ad hoc at the moment. Try setting these things in My Documents: APInput.ini -> bEnableMouseSmoothing=false APEngine.ini -> MinSmoothedFrameRate=20 MaxSmoothedFrameRate=30 (or variations of those numbers) I assume you've tried the 'normal' go-to points of graphics driver updates, reinstalls, etc.
-
Awareness seemed to be 'passive' for me. I maxed stealth but I was getting awareness all the time for most of the game. I don't think it's an activated skill. It would indeed be nice to be able to use mouse wheels in emails and missives, controls are clunky in a few places - hopefully it can be patched in.
-
Hm... well in the absence of more info yes, it does sound like it needs a patch. I've had zero checkpoint problems myself, but hopefully soemthing will come up.

Can't walk, have to run? (walk toggle?)
Tigranes replied to deevius's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
No need to assume someone is a troll guys, play nice. In any case, constructive conversation appears to be done with here. -
You don't HAVE to hack every single computer and alarm and lock that comes your way you know. I'm useless at shooting so a lot of times I leave enemies satnding. Or put points in sabotage...
