  1. You haven't enabled Xbox controller or changed the controls, right?
  2. So what is it mapped as, for you? It should be 'space' default.
  3. Get to the second level of Sabotage skill. Big difference.
  4. Sounds like the employee was a moron, what a surprise.
  5. Awesome, lucky that it was an easy fix. AP's saves are tiny, basically signposts that don't really store a lot of data... tormbp, no idea. But you can use the current method to restore your saves?
  6. In any safehouse, check the gadgets training certificate Darcy gave you. He misspelt it... 'Thornton'.
  7. The same way that almost every major video game release ever makes it past the gates with annoying bugs. At least this one doesn't stop most people from playing the game, like in some other releases. It's still not out in some places yet, but I'm sure a patch will come at some point. Hopefully soon.
  8. Seriously? AP has nothing on VTM on bugs. Polish, sure, game could use a lot of polish, but polish and bugs are different. I mean, have some perspective. There was Morrowind, where lots of people reported totally random crash to desktop while they were playing, Neverwinter Nights 1, where people had huge problems running the game, Dragon Age, where people couldn't get DLCs working and characters would disappear in the middle of your campaign, Gothic 3, where the DRM would freeze the game every 60 seconds while playing, and of course Obsidian's own KOTOR2. In contrast, the worst of AP is bad checkpoint loading and jerky mouse. I mean, they're annoying, but this is a very smooth launch as far as RPGs go.
  9. When you are in the loading screen, you can read an extract from John Keats' poem, Hyperion:
  10. The 2/10 was a joke review.
  11. If you wanted to play without 'magical skills', though, arguably, you should be able to aim manually (headshot = kill, not dependant on your stats). For instance, chain shot is currently there because it represents Mike's shooting ability, his ability to shoot people extremely fast and accurately. Not you as a player's ability. It allows me to play a skilled pistol wielder even though I'm useless at aiming. Every game has to make a decision about this. AP just decided to put role playing at the top priority.
  12. Ouch. And here I thought I had it bad taking out a couple of wisdom teeth. Get better man, it's not the same without Sand.
  13. Surely it's an issue with the game trying to look up the wrong filepaths. :/ Maybe it's because My Documents is in a different drive? Does the checkpoints folder contain a MetaData folder as well, with .dat files for every save?
  14. Music is a fairly general topic. Use [s p o i l e r] tags, .
  15. PC: Known Issues and Fixes This is a compilation of community issues and fixes and does not come from Obsidian Entertainment or SEGA. Always back-up your files before changing them. I can't start Alpha Protocol / Alpha Protocol crashes when starting Currently some people are experiencing crashes or windows errors when running Alpha Protocol, especially with 64-bit Windows 7 computers. Problems seem to vary from case to case. Make sure any changes you made to the game, such as to the .inis, are 'rolled back'. Try upgrading your graphics drivers to the latest version. If you are already on the latest version, downgrading one by one. Try using the website to activate rather than the game. Try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime and/or .Net Framework, as shown here. Try a clean reinstall of Alpha Protocol. For downloaded copies, ideally, re-download the files if you are able. If you are on Steam, you can check for file integrity there. If you get CRC errors or other errors during installation, redownloading files is very much recommended. I have problems activating or deactivating Alpha Protocol. Alpha Protocol has a single key, which is used to activate the game up to 5 times. When all goes well, this happens when you first load the game - you enter the key, and zap. If you uninstall while online, it automatically deactivates. You can also activate and deactivate through SEGA's website. However, as of yet the website does not appear to have detailed documentation. If you have problems activating, you should try and use the Disconnected/Offline Activation option in the activator program, which should give you an activation file to use with SEGA's website. If you somehow run out of activations, or you can't use either method of activation, try SEGA's customer service, as they will be handling the DRM, not Obsidian. Hopefully there will be more fixes and solutions emerging in the near future. My mouse is jerky / camera stutters when moving mouse. This seems to be related to the frame rate and loading environments, rather than the mouse itself. Most people have reported some to complete success with the following methods: Try setting mouse sensitivity in the in-game options. Try editing APEngine.ini (C:\Users\username\Documents\Alpha Protocol\APGame\Config) to the following: Adjust the values to suit. Try editing APEngine.ini to the following: If you still have problems, check that the .inis have not reverted to their original settings after you have run the game. You might need to set it as 'Read Only'. Always keep a backup of .ini changes, so that if they cause other problems they can be 'rolled back'. When I load a checkpoint in a mission, Mike is no longer in cover / enemies have disappeared. Currently there is an issue with loading checkpoints where some of the information does not load correctly, or is missing. For now, try restarting Alpha Protocol then starting from the safehouse checkpoint, and beginning the mission again. Usually, a 'fresh' Alpha Protocol will not have this problem, as it seems to arise from the fact that checkpoints only save very limited information. Rapid / frequent reloading is likely to exacerbate the issue. Smaller differences, such as your abilities being available after reloading even if they were 'cooling down', or enemies no longer being aware of your presence, might also be encountered. The dialogue options are blank. I see the buttons but not the text! This is currently an issue with anti-aliasing. Go to your graphics driver control panel (from Windows control panel). Make sure the settings for AA (anti-aliasing) and AF (anisotropic filtering) are set to "Application Controlled". The dialogue goes by too fast for me. While this is a game feature to make conversations flowing and exciting, some people might have trouble keeping up with the pace for various reasons, such as if they are playing with a non-native language. There is no currently known way to edit the speed of the dialogue timer, but keep an eye on this forum. Remember that you can use the mouse *or* WASD to select the dialogue options. When in the inventory or customising Mike's appearance, I see strange effects / I don't see a model of Mike. This is currently an issue with anti-aliasing. Go to your graphics driver control panel (from Windows control panel). Make sure the settings for AA (anti-aliasing) and AF (anisotropic filtering) are set to "Application Controlled". Surround sound doesn't work. Try the fix in this thread, for now. Let us know if it works! The menu sounds and other sounds have been replaced by strange 'grunt' sounds. Currently, it's not certain what this is, but it is suspected that it has something to do with the DRM scheme. Try roling back all .ini changes and other modifications to game files, and if that fails, try a clean reinstall and reactivation. Let us know how it goes or if you have found a solution.

    Jerky mouse fix

Sounds great, adding to known issues thread (which will be up soon) now. Thanks for working it out!
  17. Don't troll each other about being trolls, people. Depends on what you find so bad and what you want to get 'better'. If you mean graphics/animation/etc, as you can imagine, it's going to be pretty similar. Though most people enjoy the looks of the later hubs a lot more than the sterilised greybox. There is a lot more C&C and branching going on in the later hubs as well, and as you level up and actually get some skill sin, the combat / gameplay becomes more fun. I'd say finish Saudi Arabia and do another hub, e.g. Taipei, to let it 'get good'.
  18. Can I ask why? Seems to be a preference call based on what you want the game to be. For me it's a more fun game because it's an RPG that just happens to shoot things, what you want is basically a shooter with a little RPG elements. I think it was poor that the game didn't tell you this in the tutorial (i.e. big sign saying ITS YOUR STATS NOT YOUR AIM in the weapons range), but I think it's great - people just didn't expect it and think the game is screwed up. So I assume you played it through twice or more? I'm on my second playthrough now to see how much actually changes. It's undeniable that there are a huge amount of choices you can make, many more than Deus Ex. Time to see how much of the story / missions they change.
  19. Might be the clunky controls for the hacking, I get almost every hack attempt within 10 seconds now. Would be faster with better controls (as probably intended).
  20. I'm not entirely sure if it's a bug or a not very visible feature. I kept buying enough pistol ammo until I had ~250, but would never be above 150 when in a mission - I assumed it had something to do with carry limits (though ammunition size stats in weapons only means the size of your clip, doesn't it?) Didn't get the switch error, though...
  21. Considering it's not out in the US yet, no, I guess it's not doing that well with sales at the moment.
  22. When you upload the activation response, does this let you play the game? No? Does it revert to the older error? You should be able to deactivate through that webpage as well, if not now, then soon, so you shouldn't run out of activations.
  23. A lot of people complaining about how hard the boss fights are - it really depends. It's fairly challenging for me because I'm pretty bad with shooters, if you're someone that does a lot of multiplayer Call of Duty or Halo or such I'd imagine it's on theeasy side. If you take it as a straightforward shooter and gun everyone down with your FPS skills, it probably does get a bit tedius. By 'linear' I assume you meant the level design, not the story or choice & consequences, which are wildly nonlinear? Even the order in which you take missions changes what happens in those missions. In any case, yes, none of the levels seem to be massive sprawling things you get lost in, and some are downright tiny (Lazo's yacht). Hopefully something to be expanded on in a future release..
  24. The story is very interesting, because it actually changes substantially depending on what you do and in what order each playthrough. You can never meet a major character, get him/her killed, romanced, allied, or various combinations. At its core the plot would not be out of place in any major spy blockbuster movie, the writing and delivery are all up to that standard. While the gameplay and game engine might lack polish, the story does not. Atmosphere - bit of a love/hate going on with the main character's voice acting and appearance, but other than that I'd argue that it gets the spy genre feel right, it always feels like a modern day spy thriller. I thought the soundtrack fit very well - ambient, fairly low-key, blends into the surroundings, modern style with some electronic influences but nothing over the top.
  25. Devs read these forums quite a lot, just about every day - they just don't talk all the time.
