How can I play with PAD controller??
Tigranes replied to irakmata's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
It should be compatible with other gamepads as well - search the forums here, there have been a few threads. Which pad exactly? -
Sadly, I don't know a lot about bugs that don't affect me, since it's not like I can test stuff out. So I'm guessing here as well. It sounds like it's not an issue with the mouse itself, has to be something to do with the game assigning mouselook to the (nonexistent) controller or something. In My Documents/Alpha Protocol/APGame/Configs/APInput.ini: Bindings=(Name="LookToggle",Command="Toggle bLook") Bindings=(Name="LookUp",Command="Axis aLookUp Speed=+25.0 AbsoluteAxis=100") Bindings=(Name="LookDown",Command="Axis aLookUp Speed=-25.0 AbsoluteAxis=100") Bindings=(Name="MouseX",Command="Count bXAxis | Axis aMouseX") Bindings=(Name="MouseY",Command="Count bYAxis | Axis aMouseY") what do these look like on your end?

I don't think this is an error, Mina wouldn't appreciate this. You can actually prevent Heck from killing anyone if you act very very quickly in the hotel. I used silent running and shadow operative to take down the guards within ~5 seconds of getting off the elevator, before Heck could deliver any killing blows. But yes, given all the permutations the game can take it's not surprising there are a few reactivity bugs. None of them seem to be major so far, though.

Yeah, Heck leaves Wen Shu out to dry, which is fantastic. Actually, in my very first playthrough, when I saw Heck torturing Wen, the first thing I thought was - these guys are probably friends. Wen's probably a good friend / lackey of Heck, but pissed him off. I think I'm right - and later, in the credits, you hear that a copy of Catcher in the Rye has been found in his home. Not something Heck would do, I think Wen is a Chinese agent that's wound up with Heck somehow.

You mean after a load, when you see the horrible texture goo for a second before it 'sets'? Heh, imagine if the game was like that. That would justify the "ten years old game" comments. I'm finding myself care less and less about people who quit after 30 minutes and complain - mainly because I've already put in 3 playthroughs and I want to start another one. there will always be many, many people who miss out on great stuff and let themselves become more and more impatient. Of course, we'll have to wait and see what this means in terms of sales. Forget about the 'tone' of the reviews - reviewers and media outlets will make 180 degree turns day in day out on their judgments of a game. What's going to be important is whether the numbers will convince those who actually have a say in production.

I swear I saw a post on this forum about the joystick/mouse conflict - something about going into device manager, human interface units, and fiddling with the xbox controller from there (getting rid of any duplicates, I think, and resetting everything there). It's not such a big deal to unplug the controller when you play AP though, is it?
-
The game folder also has default .inis, though it makes zero sense to me that the default should override the player inis, yeah. Maybe delete profileoptions.dat in My Docs to pretend it's a fresh start for AP, and lock the .inis as read-only?
-
When it doesn't work, when you move the mouse, it doesn't move the camera *at all*? Is the Xbox 360 Controller option enabled in the in-game menu? Do you plug in any controllers into your computer?
-
Odd, it's more likely its just a bug with your version rather than a boxed version issue. Did you try using the ini to directly change bindings? My Docs/Alpha Protocol/APGame/Config/APInput.ini.

That is really weird. What kiind of 'grunts' are they? Don't worry about wasting activations - you can go to http://www.alphaprotocol.com/deactivation/ and get rid of 'obsolete' activations whenever you want.
-
Indeed, try markridin's fix and see if that helps you. I'm a mod not a dev, I have no affiliations with Obsidian, but with every passing day people seem to be coming up with new ways to crack each bug. I agree that the Sega website is very poorly explained at the moment, I'm not sure why. Anyway, ironically, to use option ©, you actually need to be able to access the activator program - then select offline activation, which generates a 'key file' for you to upload. Again, I don't understand why two methods of activation are tied down to the same program (therefore, you know, not really helping), but there it is. Let us know if markridin's solution works, or not...

ID Jibril Al-Bara at the Chateau glitch. PLEASE HELP!!!
Tigranes replied to Reg1.1's question in PC Support
That wouldn't work. The game tracks so many different variables in the way you play, to use someone else's saves would suck. Tell you waht, keep uploading saves, I'll join winklebottom and do the same thing if I see them. Although, when I'm on the forums I usually don't have access to AP... edit: you should be able to upload saves to the forum directly if you zip them. -
How has this game done financially?
Tigranes replied to Busomjack's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
It isn't great, but considering the bashing by both the reviewers of the world, and also your type -- it's not bad, either. Seriously... That's a bad number regardless of the bashing. Heck, Blur has sold badly in the UK, something like 10k units if I remember correctly, and that was well recieved. 30K world wide isn't even worth talking about. Actual sales figures cost a fortune, and then they're not exact. You didn't read any of the thread, did you? Once again, first 2 days, consoles only, europe only. Being a developer, I'm interested in seeing if you have any comparable numbers in your head? sales of multiplatform releases in europe in 2 days in consoles? -
On my third playthrough and there are some gems here, especially for Aggressive and Suave. I expect we'll be paraphrasing them mostly, since you can't go back for them, but still. 30K in 2 days in Europe in consoles - hardly indicative of total sales figure, it'll be very hard to know until a few weeks later. I mean, can we compare this to any other figure of how other multiplatform releases sold in the first two days in Europe on consoles? I don't think so, unless you pull out something totally different like Final Fantasy (which isn't on PC, anyway). Mostly, it seems like the replies here have been dominated by what people think the game have sold depending on their own opinion and what they see in the forums. we'll see, I really wish the industry had a transparent, accurate, respected and public sales figures aggregator, but obviously that's not in the best interests of everyone. -
Just tried him on Veteran, Hard, with Heck's spiked cocaine. He is brutal on hard - the knife hits seem to take something like 30-40 health down, and possibly even more of your armor, and he can land anywehre between 2 and 4 hits if he gets you. You have to be fast in getting away and have first aid kits. But after a couple of reloads I worked out a way to get to him using my char (Assault Rifles, Sabotage, Stealth). Incendiary Grenade + Focused Aim with AR's APDS ammo is quite effective at burning his health down and giving him enough knockback so he can't rush you easily. I did this to get to the cutscene, used stealth operative, got behind him, lobbed an incendiary grenade to kill hsi armour then blasted him. Got him down to nearly zero health, which is when he begins to shoot again - so he didn't even call for his guards. Also, third playthrough, reactivity in this game is freaking amazing. I really encourage you to go and play a Thornton with a totally different personality and make different decisions. The unfolding of a crucial mission in Taipei changed because of my high sabotage skill ( ), my Omen Deng dialogue was almost completely different because I had near-100% dossier, I decided to headslam Grigori and , I let Brayko live and . None of which happened in previous 2 walkthroughs. Finally, the disco in the safehouse. YES.

Good stuff! Anyone want to try this out? I'm fine with hacking, but let's see how it works for those not happy.
-
Wait, even if you continued to use keyboard and mouse? O_o
-
I just had a sabotage skill-based response in the Taipei hub, Awesomesauce.

so how long till it gets good?
Tigranes replied to poolofpoo's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
Uh... 1) Rush up to beneath his tower where he cant get you and lob incendiary grenades into his position. 2) Use the tower and snipe him. 3) Get him normally fromd istance with Assault Rifle or Chain Shot Lots of choices. -

Yeah, the plot as a whole isn't terribly original. The whole point was in reactivity and delivery. And they're both good. Boss fights and level design could be more creative, I agree. Sounds like you're not using your brain to find a weakness.
