  1. That would be 'E' default on PC. Anyone try?
  2. Fair enough, I just don't think the, uh, gravy, is that bad. Certainly not worth tossing the meat out. How far did you go? I recommend at least doing one hub after Saudi Arabia - the game really becomes stronger after the opening bit. Ironically, I've just bought Eschalon Book II and finished it - and I'd recommend AP over it any time (though both is even better). No idea if Steam even does refunds unless there are technical faults, I doubt it though... PC refunds are a dying trend everywhere.
  3. Unfortunately, I'm just a moderator, not an employee. However, I can't imagine them not putting out any PC patches, at the very least. It looks like we still need to keep getting more info about who's having the problem and where, and how many variations of it exist.
  4. It's odd - the subtitles are broken up into 'chunks', and the size of these chunks seem to be dictated mechanically, not manually. That means sometimes you get odd stuff like this happening in the middle of a tete-a- tete. There are some sync problems, especially when theres a TV on and people talking at the same time, but generally it isn't a massive problem for me. I imagine it's worse with localisation.
  5. I'm now in the final hub of the game with pistol and stealth. Of course, I'm pretty horrible at aiming anyway...
  6. 'Professional' seemed fairly matter-of-fact, though 'Suave' seemed more asshat-ish, yes.
  7. The mouse issue seems fairly widespread at the moment, but yeah, as you might imagine there aren't a lot of fixes out there at the moment. It's happened to me in lesser degrees in some areas, when there were a lot of enemies (making me spin round and round on the spot as I tried to get my bearings), but never constantly, esp. after the ini edit. Akofc, so some people report cracks are 'fixing' the issue? That it is DRM related?
  8. Hang on, so if you load the starting checkpoint there are no guards or anything no matter how far you go? I assume you've tried delving deeper into the level? Maybe just blaze past to the next checkpoint... unless you are dying before that, that is. (note that you can hold left-click to fast-forward conversations)
  9. To be honest, I've found it improved things for me. I know people demand 40, 50, 60 FPS in something like Halo for pinpoint targetting, but in Alpha Protocol you have a massive reticule and aim really has a lot to do with stats anyway. I think it's a solution for some people, not for others. Hopefully we'll get better fixes in the days to come.
  10. What kind of stuttering are you referring to, exactly? Not everyone has the game yet and 'known issues' are still not that 'known' to everyone. If it's regarding mouse accleration / mouselook, also check out:
  11. Well, if you say Mike walked in the hospital (honestly, I don't even remember, I didn't notice it), the animation exists, yes. Meaning there is probably some way to change the jogging animation to walking (that would cause problems later though, unless you want to walk EVERYWHERE), or, if you're lucky, there's an existing 'switch' for walking. Thing is... since it's not even the US release date for this game yet, you can't realistically hold out on someone to give you a solution in the next 30 minutes.
  12. The mouse - the reason it feels that way is because the code doesn't 'snap' to where your cursor is, like your normal mouse cursor would. Instead, the code moves line by line to where your mouse is, as if you are using it as a directional guide. We're obviously not used to this in a mouse. I agree it is clunky and is not a good solution - hopefully it will be patched to allow 'drag and drop' of codes with your mouse.
  13. If it happens in more than one game, yes, first ports of call would be display drivers, graphics driver control settings, etc.
  14. No need to chase it down fuzz, we're on it.
  15. For the mouse acceleration, currently a known fix for some people was: go into APEngine.ini in My Documents, Set: MinSmoothedFrameRate=20 MaxSmoothedFrameRate=30
  16. Maybe try disabling Motion Blur in-game as opposed to using the .ini function? Also tell us your specs - they should help as well.
  17. There are also at least half a dozen reviews out there that put it between 80 and 90%. Eurogamer also gave it somewhere around 8, and PC Canard is set to give it a 9.
  18. Here, just think about it from both perspectives. I get your point - if we think from a realism perspective, of course it's retarded Mike can't walk, I mean... it's a pretty basic function in human life. It happens quite a lot. Yeah? If you look at it from a gameplay perspective - i.e. this is a game - there's zero reason for you to walk. It's slower. It doesn't give you better stealth (crouching does). All it does is slow the game down - then you'll have people coming on here to complain, what a stupid game, it takes you 5 minutes to walk from one room to the other. There's a reason that games where you can't walk are criticised by a few people, but games where you can't RUN are deemed unplayable by a lot of people. Now, that doesn't make your complaint invalid, doesn't mean you are wrong. But I'm just explaining how gamers can see things differently, it's not some terminally brain-dead idiot thinking "hey, let's just take out walking even though it's fundamental to the experience!". Think about it. If you continue to play Alpha Protocol, you will see that 90% of the gameplay occurs in high-tension spy-mission situations where... you would hardly ever walk around normally. if the default jogging animation was just a 'pedestrian' walk it would be out of place. Would it be better if you had a run, jog, walk AND crouch option for Mike? Sure, I guess so. But is having four modes of movement so important that, if you don't have it, your game is a piece of crap? In the end AP is a game about spies doing spy stuff. Not real life.
  19. I'm alt-tabbing in and out of AP, I just tried a hacking and did it in five seconds... really, the vicious thing about it is that it's actually quite an easy minigame; the difficulty comes in how slowly your phrases move, and if you just don't have the eyes for it (which many people don't).
  20. You should be able to go online and deactivate it, yes. Has anyone tried yet, though? It's still early days and before the US release...
  21. Let's keep talking about it in the other thread, put it all in one place.
  22. OK, I'm halfway through the game and hacking is very very easy. Basically: On the PC, you can move both hack-codes simultaneously - one with keyboard, one with mouse. This speeds you up. All you have to do is look for stationary letters in the jumble. I mean, if that very exercise is difficult, yes, this is going to be hell - some people do well with it, some people don't. Putting in a few points in sabotage does make a big difference, especially if you can afford to fail once or let the rejumbler go once.
  23. Well, at least it's solved for you. You never know with computers, what might fix what...
  24. You could walk in Fallout 3 or Oblivion but did anyone do that? Unless they were filming fan videos or doing virtual LARP? I guess the simplest way of putting it is - there IS both run and walk in alpha protocol. It's just that when he walks, it looks like he's jogging, so that he doesn't move at the speed of a turtle. It's a practical decision because most, most players would prefer not to waddle around slowly in an actiony game. Especially since after the tutorial, you will spend most of your time actually in missions. Oh, and seeing as Obsidian has always been a PC developer, no, it's not a console port. Give the game a fair go and put a few hours into it - or if you're going to stop after 30 minutes because you can't, uh, walk, who can help you?
  25. Well, I'm sure there will be patches for PC. They don't usually get 'ported' over?
