  1. I got creamed in the temple on Hard first time I played. Its tough. This is actually what I do in almost every new game: Ignore all quests in Gilded Vale, stealth towards Caed Nua (don't forget to pick up Durance along the road); fight the two Shadow/Phantom packs you can't skip (good thing you get that anti-ghost sword in the first room) and defeat Maerwald. Then stealth straight towards the southern maps and Dyrford to pick up Sagani, Hiravius and Grieving Mother at level 3. I haven't managed yet to pick up Pallegina at level 3, though. Its possible to skip them. Maybe even with full party but I have not tried that. The temple is lesson or trial. The rewards are decent but hardly worth the effort when not powerful enough. New players cannot know this and need to make choice: do it now the hard way for exp, loot and curiosity or come back later. And since its available early it gives good sense of what the game aspires to be: old school RPG I believe its not worth to clear everything there. Going straight for the quest, avoiding some rooms, having Stealth specialist to scout and loot is the way to go. Not much dealing with Shades and Phantoms this way.
  2. If its a bug its a bug and should be dealt with accordingly. Its a different ball game from maximizing performance. Let me quote from the link above to demonstrate: We can continue this "cheap" vs "scrub" but its not too constructive and pleasant.
  3. Interrupts do not shutdown anyone but that is not what they are for. Stunlock is the mechanic for shutting down. Interrupts however provide small window of opportunity and work with auto-attacks. Not sure what is the difference between minor benefit and mature mechanics so cant comment but it works.
  4. if I stop coming here it will be because of the ever present notions of certain approaches being cheap, exploits, legitimate cheats, cheese and similar pejoratives. I would say LEARN TO PLAY SCRUBS but it will not help me any but rather the opposite. I do not go around saying how cheap its to have min/max full party because it makes the game joke on any difficulty if one knows what s/he doing. So stop it .. if its in game and it not bug it legit and totally fine to use. Its an insult (to me) to call such approaches by pejoratives.
  5. If you solo PoTD the most efficient way is the pacifist way: --- In case anyone wonders how its possible to do damage and generate focus with 3 Mig and how its possible to survive with 3 Con .. I played this character to level 6 and it was probably the easiest solo for me so far. Doing lots of damage and not getting owned actually. High Per and Res are not only for defense, ability to cast under pressure - not too many fast spells like Wiz for example - and ability to interrupt with fast attacks, it helps with dialogue which is something to consider for soloing.
  6. Much less fun character? As it was noted, perhaps lack of creativity, invention and adaptation is the real cause of "not being fun", who knows. I can understand that for some only playing what they believe to be the most powerful character is fun. For others its fun to try different builds while utilizing their strengths and minimizing weaknesses. There is no measure to fun. Regardless, they cannot be equal for one simple fact: its not possible to measure and compare them. For example, One-Handed Style. Who has the numbers on how many grazes per play through there are and how does it compare to + 6 accuracy for example? Nobody. Maybe Obsidian. And if nobody has the numbers, telling stories and anecdotes maybe be part of gaming community life but it tells little about factual state of events. If someone is stupid or ignorant or lazy or slacking it is not my problem nor in my opinion should be problem for Obsidian. It does not even matter if such someone picks Field Triage instead of Ruffian because that someone will not notice the difference. Wasted 6 limited resources .. RPGs are about choices and consequences. Except maybe one post, there are not any suggestions except stating opinions, constructing arguments and telling stories. Metaphysics never proved anything.
  7. For first play, depending on difficulty and party, melee cipher could be tricky. Luckily this game does not force player to one approach whole game. Its possible to play Cipher like rogue for example.
  8. Talents do not have to be equal. There is no need to play the so-called optimal builds. If someone believe that by taking certain talent(s) will "gimp" character and that is not "proper" way of playing role playing game is fine but has no bearing on anything. There are options, most of not all of them are viable to take to PotD. But I will be missing + 6 acc if I take + 10 reflex instead which is game breaking to gimp my character like that! cool story bro Stories are cool but nobody cares. If you have suggestions how to balance - another notion I do not quite understand in single player RPG - talents, lets see them. The debaters are waiting.
  9. Switch to ranged next time, cant move but can shoot. Because of the said luck I do not believe in TCS
  10. Since I have not read forum rules I am not sure if I am allowed to do that but you are a ****ing ignorant idiot. And scrub on top of that.
  11. How to get stronghold at level 3 with 3 Mig and 3 Con? --- Don't fight them. Sneak past to active dialogue with throne servant. When dialogue ends use figurine to summon decoy. Run back to entrance and wait for out of combat. Sneak .. The rest is the usual as described in this thread already. QQ Maerwald beetles too strong
  12. Solo tests class to its limits. Its not like slacking in party having tank to aggro mobs so you will not get targeted or priest to babysit your ass to heal you. It is therefore pretty much relevant what the limits are as they inform on the class. In party of 6 there is little point to "optimize" anything because its not needed. In party of 6 there is no way to tell the said limits. What does Obsidian Lamp do? Summons 5 other characters you build to your liking though IE mod? lol
  13. Do not listen to anyone here because they apparently never played solo Wizard PotD and instead of 2 days theorycrafting you could try several build up to Defiance Bay.
  14. That's what I thought at first, but I tested this like 5 times the other day (yes, I reloaded in the previous area before entering that one for the first time) and I always got the same weapon. I've got different ones in other playthroughs, but I couldn't say exactly when the game decides what loot is in there. Edit: Just saw knownastherat's post. Looks like we have different experiences then, or maybe I'm just extremely (un?)lucky. Not sure, I have not tested it thoroughly. Perhaps depending on container. Though I have tested it now it does not seem to work.
  15. That is not consistent with my observations, at least not quite. While loot is generated upon entering area, reloading another save and then reloading position before looting can generate different loot. So yes and no. The seed can change even after entering area. edit: Another way to get decent weapon early is to .. enchant. The mats are there, in the game world, to be picked up.
  16. I just got a fine crossbow from the location where I was used to get the fine arbalest. Was it patched by 1.03 or is it random? Probably random. Even the cape with Freeze DR in the Black Hound is not guaranteed as I've noticed other places to drop minor loot randomly.
  17. Well, if it's a really hard fight where there is many enemies that can wreck your party in few seconds if left alone, then it's either wizard or some scrolls. And some scrolls are just legitimized cheats. So how do you figure that? Legitimized cheats. Is there any guide or rule book I could read up so I would not unintentionally use them? Point me the right direction if you can I am lost. Common sense. If you can't figure out why +15 accuracy 10 sec paralyze on whole screen usable by anyone with lore is not really balanced, i can't help you. You really can't.

  19. Possibly the consideration that 5 Fire DR was not implemented as countermeasure to dragons
  20. good thing this game is not balanced for soloing purpose there is a achievement yes, but the game is meant to be played with a team. i hope they remove this solo crap from the game in the expansion or atleast make it impossible to solo. in recent times there is to many cries for nurfs from solo players while in a properly build team everything is alright even on PoTD. So because there, allegedly, are cries the developers should invest time and energy to make optional play style - soloing - impossible, do I understand it correctly? I hope they do not listen to your cries then.
  21. Have not finished the game yet, and probably wont for some time, but if Monk or Barbarian can beat the final battle solo and Wizard cant than the game is seriously broken.
  22. Would you mind posting your Wizard and Cipher Longknife? So I can see how its more or less the same like mine. Thanks
  23. A Mother's Plea, Anslog's Compass, kobolds ---- Skrimisher because Chuck Norris is not playable character and resorting to cheap play like this .. works Oh 3 came? Champ too. QA gj on aggro Lets use beetles to save spells for later Alright Scout the camp to find spot for another cheap play also called use of environment And the conclusion. First try. Breeze, albeit level 5
  24. i. leave the wisps alone ii. need to kill skirmisher who stuns first. the rest is .. aoe ii. leave the guls alone iii. sneak without fight PotD breeze?
