Its possible to stealth past everything, namely entrance room, in Caed Nua with Stealth 5 (lvl 4 Stealth 5 Mech 3 - to open door to boss) but the statute, the servant, will trigger the fight anyway- will not let character to descend without fight and that is pretty much the only risky fight at this stage. The boss is risky too but its not really fight, or does not have to be. I guess thats one way to play but I can reliably kill clear caed nua without a single point in stealth and imo the points are better spent in lore and mechanics, i mean fan of flames is great but have you seent he level 4 and five scrolls? They are pretty beastly. Nope I have not, I play to level 6 than restart Unless those scrolls are needed early there should be time to level up Lore or? By level 6 I am on 5 Stealth 5 Mech and 3 Lore with Wizard. Its more that the scrolls make hard fights easy and Im not one for running away from a fight. Well, to me its about efficiency. If I can avoid fights where I need high Lore (and money for scrolls plus sacrificing Stealth or other skill) I will avoid it. In similar fashion the Temple or way to the keep. Too much of a bother (time and energy) and too much of a risk. It can be done in maybe 15 mins using Stealth having to fight only in the entrance room. But sure, whatever rows your boat. I was just curious whether or not the mentioned high level scrolls are essential early. Because if they are I might revaluate my progression table.

Current Wizard has some arsenal in this regard. One of the problems is that buffs cannot be cast pre-battle nor stored. If its gonna take 3 rounds buffing to become somewhat capable fighter .. when Stone Skin was around, triggered on on sight, fighter/mage was ready for battle knowing few weapon attacks will be misses. Here? Seems some mob roll just crits, which interrupt and knock. Not talking about attack speed. Well done dps race or waiting for lucky non-crit. F/M here is also different by nature of design. Mig .. THAC0 was problem for mages due to low Str so they got to summon Mordy swords .. anyway here Aim remains problem. One was Fighter who dualed to Mage and it worked mainly because of Fighter's chance to hit and Mage's utility and protection. Here Fighter have their own utility. Then again, if Mage could melee like Fighter without any trade-offs there would be something odd with game design in sense why to make the distinction in the first place? The only advantage is here flexibility but that is luxury not necessity. In other words why to bother to play Wizard like Fighter when there seems to be no apparent advantage? Fighters initially did not have many "abilities", later called high level abilities..., they were punching just bags and Korgan who could solo Kangaxx simply because his ability guaranteed not to be Imprisoned. "What gives?" We know what happens here. I play my Wiz like some offensive Priest. Standing there in full plate, waving hands at heaven ... boom! crit .. not like Kensai/Mage.

Its question of how much is for example 48% area and 40% duration at Int 18 worth. Depends on spell picks I guess as some spells will benefits more than others. For example, Spirit Shield which is on in almost every fight: base 45 sec, modified 63 sec. Corrosive Siphon 10 sec to 14 sec, radius from 1.25 m to 1.85 m. For some spells prolonged duration/area can mean more damage in which case Int ~ Mig. This said, it all depends on play style and lets say purpose. I tried low Dex and high Deflection before but this is working more to my liking. Most importantly speed of casting is noticeable and significant. Now I can get my stuff up while before I was struggling despite phenomenal Concentration.

From my experience, stacking Deflection or average Con are not tickets to PotD. Taken high Mig and Int as mandatory there is only so much room and that room is needed for Dex. Wiz has Deflection buffs however casting them takes time and such time can be used for damage. There are no sequencers/contingencies I know of and quite few spells are combat only. Once combat starts it can go south really fast.

Tough fights I cast and trash I hit. I did not get "haste" spell for example but bolt as I was heading for the city (walls). As you see I did not really fight any tough fights except the keep but there I do not need scrolls. Its consistently doable in elegant fashion but not every time. Mopped up temple and some maps and now gonna get some money, exp and items. I don't even have figurine. Have 8.3k on me possibly for Wiz ring not sure. Plate armor and my buffs keep me alive but Wiz needs to rest after every encounter like this one. That is the way it is. To hit stuff and survive one needs spells and sometimes they are so powerful its better just burn them fast. Try it next. People say .. eventually someone will do it will all classes I suspect and if not, well, not bad way to learn a class, and the game mechanics. --- edit: You can buff up, DR and attack speed, cast on mobs in front of you Siphon and tease them with Arcane Assault and other debuffs and happily hack away. The thing is that a swing ~ cast and cast is well devastating. It comes down to planning resources but so far there was no need. Rests are plentiful.

What to do? --- Level 5 Bulwark .. too slow bro with that Rolling thing and Sprit Shield. What now? Heal, Fan them, Ray them Corrode them? Oops I did it again .. now the heal? Oops Too Late! Heal, Siphon, Aim, Bolt, Fan and BM at the end PRO TIP from not a pro: Terrain is part of the game. Besides, who would stand in the middle?

You will not enter any room in the first place without knowing the fight is winnable. As you correctly noted encounter are scripted. Like bear cave. And if luck is bad, enter room again. --- edit: this could be thread about advanced stuff and we are arguing how auto-saves work. Who invented those achievement I don't know.

Should be should be not .. that is not the world presented to us. In this world there is no clear divide. In this world fighter does not just stand there with shield being healed by healer and mage stands far back abusing AI casting. There is no truth to be found. If immersion is broken is because of ignorance of this world. Its not funny that fighter can have 2 Mig. 2 Mig is not 2 kg as it seems to be in the Right imaginary world. 2 Mig is 85 kg for all we know. And whether he can wear full plate or not, again, anyone in this world can. Immersion in what? Not in this world. In imaginary world known from elsewhere.

As I said, its not problem for me that there seems to be inconsistency in dialogues for you. I do not have problem with tiny Wizard lifting people. She can cast flames ffs! Lifting she does when she gets bored. You can repeat WRONG WRONG I don't mind. The system is working and I could not care less if damage comes from Mig or Int. I just need to know where it comes from. This is a game.

I had Fleet Feet on. And kitting skillz From one direction the boss and adds come and from the other beetles. They move on straight lines so its just matter of timing and luck. If spiders worked for you, alright with me. I had Stealth 5 there and was able to pass spiders in the room before the one in question. btw did you get the quest update as if you would kill him? I did not get to kill him and seems I missed the update about the temple I should go to. Now it just says vague .. go to Defiance Bay and some details

From official guide: --- SKILLS While Abilities and Talents are used predominantly in combat, Skills come into play in a variety of different contexts. Skills partially determine how players can interact with the world around them. They are often used in both scripted interactions and conversations. General Use During any situation where a skill is checked against a challenge’s level of difficulty, the party member with the highest relevant skill is represented as the starting benchmark. If their skill outweighs the difficulty score, the player’s efforts succeed. For this reason, it’s best to have specific characters in your party to master one skill instead of steering everyone toward a jack of all trades. Resource Items Some items are used in different scenarios to alter how skill checks occur. The most obvious example is the use of lockpicks to complement the Mechanics skill. Other items and tools do not deplete when used. Skill Advancement At first level, characters have only their class’ inherent bonuses to two skills. These bonuses are always considered when calculating the character’s total skill value, but they are not counted when the character advances their skills. Each level after first, the player gains 6 points to spend toward upgrading their skills. It’s worth noting that points can’t be stored for later, and that spending points might not elevate a skill to its next highest level. ----- Skill Bonus Barbarian Chanter Cipher Druid Fighter Monk Paladin Priest Ranger Rogue Wizard Stealth — — x — — x — — x x — Athletics xx — — — x x xx x — — — Lore — xx x x x — x xx — — xx Mechanics — x x — — — — — — xx x Survival x — — xx x x — — xx — — ---- The Stealth skill allows the player and/or the party to move near an NPC (non-player character) without being detected. Whether to slip by a guard unnoticed or to surround a group of enemies in order to make a sneak attack, these situations call for the use of the Stealth skill. Athletics Athletics allows characters to jump, climb, swim, or run exceptionally fast. These interactions all typically occur within scripted interactions or (occasionally) conversations. Climbing walls, jumping over a chasm, or diving into a deep section of a river to investigate a glint at the bottom would all be covered by Athletics. In combat, Athletics impacts how much Fatigue a character can endure before suffering skill penalties. Lore represents a character’s accumulated miscellaneous knowledge and trivia, often of occult or esoteric topics. Outside of conversations and scripted interactions, Lore is used to activate scrolls. Higher Lore values allow the character to use higher level scrolls. The Mechanics skill allows the manipulation of any sort of mechanical device. From opening locks to disarming traps to changing the behavior of a complex machine, the party needs to use their Mechanics skills. The Survival skill is a measure of how knowledgeable and capable a character is in wilderness settings. It can be used to identify creature tracks or remains, and create consumable items from natural ingredients. ---------

Every damage scales with Might. That is how the mechanic is designed. It allows for, for example, caster who is not able to do damage but is able to crowd control plus something else, like be mobile. The system in place has law, order and purpose. It just goes against prejudices that, for example, Might is by the laws of nature physical strength and even contributes to appearance. No, Might allows for damage. Dexterity is not for defense but for speed, etc. It does not make sense, it does not make sense! Indeed, apparently to some it does not.

You walk into forest and meet 4 trolls. What do you do? You are 4 too. Level 4. Without exploits? You run, till you find a corner. Cant climb trees .. ---- ----- Well, you kick their ass. After all you are Mig Mage! Softened up by Corrosive Siphon, Fan, Ray and Chill. Don't troll me bitches. Stiletto and Door.

Just started. Well, this is my third build on PotD as I mentioned in the other thread. Costal Aumaua, 21 15 18 3 18 3, Eldritch Aim, Fan of Flames, Spirit Shield and Fleet Feet to start with. Since there is no way to avoid melee and since I get hit no matter Deflection plate armor with buffs works - Infuse Vital Essence, Bulwark of Elements and Sprit Shield. I ran low Dex build before but could not get spells out despite max Res. I opted for Fast spells because once engaged its kind of difficult to get slower spells off. Ray of Fire is pretty good AoE though it requires positioning and running and well .. fun. First talent Fast Runner, second extra 1st level spell so I do not count on flames only. Took Kena's Estoc for the time being, with Aim I can hit stuff but its secondary in sense that other stuff needs to be done first else I would not hit anything and die fast. Don't need figurine to get the keep. Just bought the belt. Inside, draw agro, position, cast Bulwark, cast Aim, Ray and Fan. Took 5 tries before I found the spot I needed (only one Phantom hitting me, had 4 there are 3 Shadows).

I see, I did not even notice. Does it matter? I am not here to argue or defend the system in place. I was little surprised I need Mig on Wizard too but after playing for a while it seems to me its working. You have every right to dislike it but wizards do not excel in melee even with high Mig in comparison to other classes with same Mig. Damage is not about Mig only, but ability to hit, talents or buffs.
-
What game disagrees? Any character can have max Mig but if you think that Wizard is good in melee I disagree.

Apologies for quoting again, however, adding Stealth 5 and Mechanic 3 to the standard allows for hitting level 4 (5 Stealth 3 Mechanic) then heading straight to Caed Nau. Sneak through courtyard and fight Phantoms with Shadows inside. Rest. Sneak past spiders and head to the boss. Lead him to beetles and with some luck and chaos it will be over in few mins. On Wizard I did not need the figurine so that speeded the process substantially together with Sneak 5. Level 5 is time for Mechanic 5.
