  1. Since its duo, a thing to consider is relative ease (as soon as level 8) to obtain immunity to being flanked, and being flanked is not nice. From here synergy with such immunity could be explored. In particular, Fighter subclass Tactician. DW with bombs could thus be Swashbuckler, Trickster/Tactician for example, while 2H Brute, Berserker/Tactician. There are, irrc, two 1H weapons granting immunity to being flanked and one armor. Armor for the Brute and one of the 1H weapons, tho not fire, for Swashbuckler. the role of bombs would be crucial as it would allow for afflicting flanked condition on multiple target to trigger Brilliant, resource regeneration, for Tactician. If 2H would not need to be Barbarian, but could be Fighter, than it would open up other options, Tactician/<insert affliction able subclass>. As thelee said, decide your playstyle, goal, and don't mess character creation Well, I dont think its that simple but, you've done solo rogue/priest so you know what you are up for, however, let me note that its sometimes easier to reset, or lets say control, a fight for solo character than it is for a party. The way I do parties, duos included, is by looking for synergies or a theme or enhancements, for something that, in my mind, connects the team.
  2. Raven Darkholme decided not to engage in ship combat opting for surrender when inevitable. I have not tested it myself, but I think they should be doable against low-level captains/weak ships with proper equipment. The question remains if its worth to bother with them at all. No kidding, as we saw what happened yesterday on the stream when one underestimates own let's say humanity --- It was nice to see Boeroer, among others, dropping by yesterday and chipping in with bits of own experience, own meta-knowledge. I can't speak for Vic but I enjoyed this aspect, cooperative effort to defeat the challenge, very much.
  3. lol and I thought I was arrogant wow edit: speaking of which, I better stop saying stuff in chat or you might be disqualified because of it
  4. Indeed, level 16 is for the said classes, no idea about others, essential. Reaching it without a timer can be done without much issues in my experience. Come to tonight's stream and we can talk about this while watching VictorCreed to boldly go where no one has gone before He usually starts at 17:00 CET.
  5. You are a brave, and very stubborn, man vic But that is what is needed. Just in case, my previous post was not meant to discount or discredit the Ultimate in any way. To me, it's an inhuman challenge and whoever completes it, first, should be flown to Obsidian office and given standing ovations there, seriously.
  6. I suspect failing the run to be quite frustrating due to the fact that to level up, which involves mostly completing routine (read boring) tasks, to the appropriate level to be able to beat enemies like the fire dragon who is on a timer, can take around 4 hours minimum, I guess, and the challenge basically begins after this time. So its 4 hours of let's say unproductive game-time which has little to do with the challenge itself. Then again, what frustrating is and whatnot is a matter of opinion. To fail a couple of times would be to me too frustrating and that is why I don't even dream of going for the challenge. It's not a fun challenge at all to me. Sure, there is an amount of meta-knowledge needed, which could be considered fun, but there is too much of mechanical requirement due to no pause. In fact so much that it feels like Soul's games where the difficulty is to behave like a robot who makes no mistakes.
  7. Watching theorycrafting and testing Raven Darkholme/Victor Creed on Twitch I wonder, not planning to go for the challenge, does Vela follow once combat starts or does she wander around the spot she was in when combat started? Seemed to me its the latter and if so it could probably be used to protect her, taking combat away from her, in certain cases.

  9. Well, since there is no truth to be found, it could not go anywhere else. There is no such a thing as "good" design and "bad" design. There is only design some people like while others don't.
  10. turn to port fire or hold fire if hold prepare to jibe hold fire prepare to jibe hold fire lvl 8 sinking lvl 19 https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/107530-principi-lose-reputation-fast/?p=2127692 with cannons found in shipwrecks and with the BB sails and hull tho it was not necessary for this fight. Sometimes enemy tries to board, in which case targeting sails or crew might be preferable to targetting hull. --- edit: it took 7 rounds which I believe is faster than boarding. Tho the loot is not as good.
  11. A Team John "Hannibal" Smith - Tactician/Priest of Wael no questions. Templeton "Face(man)" Peck - Debonaire. I smell a priest here too but let's keep him pure. H.M. "Howling Mad" Murdock - Berserker, right? Now multi him to Warlock offers itself but no, Nalpazca. and Mr. T - I'd give him some PER to complement his Mechanics, but keep him as pure Fighter, Blackjacket?
  12. Very nice. So, not finishing Fort Deadlight, though looting it, then stealing in Dunnage and killing on the top of Beacon as per above net me following:
  13. Well, imo its fun mechanic but requiring effort. It requires specific items and approach to encounters, and it does not "one-shot" anything. The only* thing it does, besides the bother with getting Brilliant, is that refreshes resources, allowing for unconventional tactics. It does not "break" anything for anyone. But yeah, it's their game. I thought Tactician was a gift to unconventional play-throughs. Sure, when I was chain casting Chill Fogs in the first cave I thought .. this is stupid .. and it is but it does not always work like this. Personally, I did not like Chill Fog since PoE for it was too powerful in comparison to other spell and thus, in a way, mandatory. And mandatory is stupid to me. edit:* and the buff from Brilliant, which is good
  14. I am trying duo Tactician/Shieldbearer and Tactician/Assassin. Low level but with the pala/tactician I expect to charge in, get engagements and positioning, and buff and spam Enduring Beacon like there is no tomorrow while actually playing with the Assasin. Chill Fog, for getting enemies flanked, is Chill Fog but who is not tired of Chill Fog?
  15. Indeed, that is why solo Tactician needs to be immune to Flank, which is not a problem as there are items granting such immunity. The trick is to get the enemies Flanked.
  16. Took Steel Garrote/Bloodmage to level 20 and it works as expected. For solo, however, I would pick Tactician instead of Paladin.
  17. On the concept of balance. Seems to me that builds often being called, on this board but also elsewhere, "fun build", "nice find" or any other positive comment, are not balanced builds at all but rather the opposite. Such builds diverge from normal, not so good and not soo bad, builds. So my impression is that regardless of the essays Mr. Sawyer writes and presentations he gives, regardless of the amount of hypothesizing a rational thesis on how balance is important, many people play games for fun where fun often means the opposite of balance. Let's take this piece from post #48 as example: Well, maybe is "bad" design but its better "seller". For an artist there is always the question, I guess, who do I create for?
  18. It's not optimized build, I don't have Mule Kick at lvl 19 for example, I was just trying the combo and liked it so I carried on.
  19. I would not worry about it either, just that's what Tactician is from where I sit. If its not worth to be .. tactician, well, 3 Chanters and 2 Monks --- edit: I can image duo or trio, due to items, for a party build around Tactician.
  20. The goal .. of Tactician is to get Brilliant. That is the whole point of the class. It gets interesting when looking for Brilliant as a battlefield is dynamic, there are environmental elements, buffs, dampeners, and lots of bodies. The question every Tactician should ask imo what am I gonna do with Brilliant? To the point. With a good setup - gear, abilities, party - I would think Tactician Battlemage can be played very aggressively since resource hungry Fighter and Wizard can be satisfied by Brilliant. To get most out of Tactician heavy micro is required 1. find Brilliant 2. use refreshed resources. This leaves out tank imo, who is more likely static and passive. Either be a heavy caster, the number of spells one can cast under constant Brilliant is game crashing or, using the awesome Fighter passives and abilities, become a dynamic melee damage dealer.
  21. Being immune to Flank is essential for Tactician imo. As far as I know, there are 2 weapons and 1 armor, obtainable early through midgame, granting immunity to Flank. Rapier, Club and Light Armor. The Rapier has Legendary PEN, cool tricks and can be bought out of Port Maje. The Club is not bad, due to modal and another in-game club. The Amor is also not bad. I'd decide on one of these, then decide the other hand. For lots of casting shield could be considered.
