I had a few problems with sneaking on the Dyrland Crossing map, had to outrun beetles several times. Guess my Stealth is a bit on the low side. I tried selling a wrong dragon egg to the lady, that didn't work. When sneaking through the Ogre cave, I figured I could let him kill spiders for me. But those kills counted for me, too bad. With still below 100 kills, I am almost level 12 and will now head for the endgame. I could do most bounties with killing 1 or 2 enemies, but I started slacking a bit. Either way, you get really a lot of experience from the bounties which allows some slacking and you can also ignore many fedex quests. We talk about party kills right? I wish I knew it before! That is where I accumulated 50 then. Greedy greedy. I noticed before that ding ding for bestiary exp but did not ding in my head. It was not necessary and its possible to sneak through the whole section, the small part with quest item and loot outside included, without initiating combat. I have save before and did not progress too far but as you say it should not matter I guess. I mean, now I know I could do it so it would be just matter of time. ---- edit: Act I, Buried Secrets, Gilded Vale, Temple of Eothas Stealth 8 + 2 + 1 speed, no defeated. Its even possible to loot the container with spawning Phantom and get away with it. "No light ..!" it said .. there is light alright but does not reflect from me. ---- edit1: Act II, Blood Legacy, Dyrford village/ruins, , exp 744, total quest exp 1966 Stealth 9 + 2 + 1 speed, no defeated. Entering the ruins is tricky but Rogue can deal with it via summon and Shadowing Beyond. Once inside, I went through the entrance from Dyrford village tower, sneaking around requires caution as corridors are narrow and guards plenty. Plenty of traps too, Gaze of The Adragan included, high Mechanics (I had 9 and was not able to disarm all traps) required. Again, as rogue can utilize invisibility its possible to get to Wymund without single kill. Side with him to complete the quest. This makes guards in ruins green so its possible to loot there after. ---- edit2: I took 12 only from Dank Spores I could not avoid. Perhaps if I had more camping supplies but the way the final room before ascending to level 1 is designed I did not find any other way. Also killed another 4 for the retaliation shield and I think that is it. Its kind of brutal and fun dungeon due to number of enemies (difficulty dependent) and map design. When I fired my last Shadowing had 1 supply and 1 figurine left with the said room with spores before me I was considering reload and different approach.

Limit party to 4 and 6 looks better already. btw there is ton of stuff to read from notes, books, item description, on location description, banter .. Sure there could be more. Everything more is apparently good. Still the game, within reason, has depth even if "with only" 6 companions. --- edit: on topic, they are good just because healing is too strong in this game or rather damage is inevitable.

I was able to finish The Wailing Banshee peacefully, with no defeated, though it requires passing through ground floor twice which is possible only with some kind of disengagement ability where summons act as decoy and due to rules of engagement mechanic. Same thing used at Caed Nua - when summon is deactivated and PC far enough/out of sight, combat will end enabling stealth. Its like leaving your buddy behind to get away except its not your buddy.

Its not mentioned anywhere nor it was obvious to me but kills from summons do not seem to count toward "Enemies Defeated" in "Personal" record, which seems odd to me given the task. I noticed only recently as I was avoiding conflicts, assassinating individuals and/or using summons in passive mode as distraction. Can anyone confirm? I have 19 enemies defeated, 13 from prologue .., level 7. One of those I was just walking around and there was this backer alone .. I forgot I was pacifist, so yeah its definitely possible to do a lot of early stuff without fighting. The Bears for example I was able to sneak in (Stealth 8 +2), talk to NPC and when I got aggro I went invisible SB and snuck away. The catacombs under Raedric, Stealth 8 + 2 no SB necessary, no kill to get to Osrya, just some trolling with figurines, and single kill for Nedmar. Never Far from the Queen, no kill. Sneak through catacombs to Rowyna (Voice From Past) and side with her. When Moadred turns hostile upon looting his chest, there are guards in sanitarium.

I would say it depends on play style. Taking out the highest threat at the beginning of the fight, with Backstab, can be worth per rest ability. Of course then Rogue has to retreat and auto-attack but that is how it works. Besides without the biggest threat, dangerous caster for example, it might be more efficient to auto-attack after such assassination than perform whatever feasts without one.

Commentary is amazing. I have it on in every playthrough. Regarding the note about bell puzzle. We can only speculate but Olivia Veras mentions "on paper, each of these rooms had listed purpose and name" (later buried under rubble) she also mentions "The bell puzzle here went through couple of iterations." and that key was placed in one of the rooms and NPC (Wirtan) to provide info which " .. seemed to balance things out". Its possible there was an argument/debate in the office how to set it up and everyone had the best idea. In such case democracy does not work ...

Maximum number in party is 6. Eder's armor is not that great but has neat utility as you maybe noticed: Second Chance - he gets up when he gets knocked out. While swapping armor before every fight may not be feasible, generally the armor with highest DR (damage resistance) to particular attacks is best - some armors are good against Crushing damage others against Freeze etc Check the stats on armors and combat log for type of damage used. --- edit: Learning spells - put Grimorie with the spells you want in inventory of Wizard who wants to learn. Click on spell and pay set amount 100,200,etc

Firkraag or any BG2 dragon when stripped of magic resistance, lower resistance in contingency/sequencer, with lowered saving throws from Grater Malison was vulnerable to spells of any level. Level 2 Chromatic Orb on such dragon was instant kill. Or Feeble Mind or Polymorph to squirrel whatever. Not talking about Time Stop (no defense .. lol) , Imprisonment (no saving throw) and whatever. Those who say stuff like this was not part of the legacy this game advertised to follow do not know what they are talking about. What was not, at least I do not remember it like that, part of the game were constant judgmental voices calling what they do not like exploits, cheese, cheap etc. That is new in the 21st century. This and those ****ing achievements. Whiners, scrubs, simpletons, and achievers. That I do not remember. Killing dragon on solo sorcerer in 5 sec I do. BG had Invisibility for **** sake. IN VI SI BI LI TY

Backtracking with Rogue, though I did not realize my kills from prologue count and since I happened to be the one with finishing blow .. Regarding Purnisc: With high enough Stealth I had 8 and +1 to speed either from Sugar or Food its possible to sneak past those 4 and kill Purnisc. I would rather have some option to talk them to helping Purnisc with *coughs* accident but 1 kill is not bad. I tend to agree that some solutions are not really in the spirit of pacifism but its easy to count kills, for achievement.

If Aloth could hit Shadows without Eldritch Aim (also potion), he should be able to hit Shades with it. They have relatively high deflection as you noted and there are only 2 ways around it: buff and debuff. edit: also following this chart: http://orcz.com/Pillars_of_Eternity:_Monster_Strengths_and_Weaknesses they are weak to Fortitude attacks so re-check your options.

Pausing is core of IE games combat. Tip on loading screen confirms it. This is what the developers had in mind .. ouch eh? Reducing number of party members is first and logical step to increasing difficulty, instead of imposing other artificial restrictions like restriction on resting... that is not what the developers had in mind. 3 wo/men party sounds about right. There is good number of combinations for 3 from existing pool of characters/classes.
