  1. This was one of the fist differences I noticed when playing the game for first time. Except agreeing with the premise outlined in OP I am not sure I like the current system more but do not have any arguments beyond personal preference to offer.
  2. Definitely not Athletics, not for "optimal" run. Optimal - easiest, fastest and least risky - is Stealth 5 and Mechanics 3. With this is possible to complete The Old Watcher by level 3 or 4. Besides exp it will then allow for access to Defiance Bay and beyond for more exp and loot without getting into difficult fights. Optional quests, quests not needed to complete to finish The Old Watcher, are: A Mother's Plea (Ranga at Compass), Vengeance from Grave (Bears in cave) and Buried Secrets (Temple in Gilded Vale). These can be finished after completing The Old Watcher when level 5 with more comfort. To complete Raedric, Mechanic 5 is needed. There are however 2 useful items in the castle - Boots of Stealth and Gloves of Manipulation which can make things much easier. Sadly, those are RNG.
  3. Trash mobs appear basically only in Raedrick at this point. You have relatively isolated encounters to overcome and mobs on map, not essential for getting item or quest done, are to be left alone when solo. Its bother and unproductive. Even in Act 2 there are not that many trash mobs really. Again, quests with specific set up not fighting through hordes to get to boss. So instead of fighting through, progress through. If you check pinned threads on top there is thread about soloing with info you may find helpful.
  4. It is not necessary to complete "A Mother's Plea" if you have hard time beating it. You can get experience elsewhere faster and easier. However, solo Wizard should probably not aggro them all at one. Sneak hugging the right wall and when in range cast Bewildering Spectacle or Silcken from stealth. Immediately after that run back to entrance. Ideally, only one or couple will follow. Blacksmith is done by sneaking from east without engaging the bandits. You can lure them to Trolls west or Lurkers east but its not straightforward. Go south to the broken Bridge, but do not enter from Black Meadow, and complete one quest there. Go to Raedric, enter climbing from west and sneaking inside and side with him. Rotation will do nothing for you in those encounters. Knowing the game and using right tools for given job will. Especially for playing without party. --- edit: did you take Fast Runner? that will help with kiting/setting up. its not essential but I would recommended it unless you are "pro". before you cast fleet feet you are dead even if its "fast". or eat some Sugar ..
  5. Yeah, instead it got to you and interrupted btw the clothing you have. Not for this fight, but was it essential to enchant it to superb or you did it just because? I like running around in Aedyre.
  6. Trying to charm that kobold champ on min health .. The rest is good job/execution.
  7. With good accuracy and attack speed the effects could proc often enough to use this approach even without abilities, especially under focused fire. Stunlock party should be green.
  8. I would like to point out as part of my weekly routine, because the nonsense about cheese is ever present, that if its possible to beat toughest enemies and encounters in the game solo without using the so-called cheese, though its was implemented to the game by developers without noting such property, the game would be quite broken. I would also like to point that there is no real challenge in single player game. Well, maybe Deep Blue. Real challenges, real difficulties requiring real skills, are present only in multiplayer environment with dynamically adapting behavior of human opponents. IE games AI has IQ about 30 in human terms is my guess. That concludes my point: calling something cheese repeatedly does not make for elite player. In single, there are no others.
  9. As I said .. expert, you are expert .. on stories.
  10. Stories (Spoiler Warning!) Well, I guess American Anthropological Association is childish and ignorant then. Link is posted but I have no choice but quote: http://www.aaanet.org/stmts/racepp.htm My bold. I am not sure about "entirely" debatable. It possibly is debatable given some grounds but I am afraid " Of course there are races, it's a biological reality. Humans are in no way exempt from evolutionary variance." will not cut it. AAA argument seems pretty solid. Humans are not dogs. I am not gonna repeat myself and everyone who reads this thread can judge for her/himself what sounds like racist remark and whatnot. What I learned here is that we have experts on African noses here which is great.
  11. Thanks. In that case I guess its safe to follow OP. Level 2 looks pretty much fail safe. Drain health/AoE damage and health boost, 2x cc and defense.
  12. Find your own rotation Its not necessary and maybe not even optimal to actually have rotation. The way I play is that I pick spells for each encounter that is why listing spell picks is not worth much to me. I mean its good to know what spell is worth slot and whatnot but that is about it. For example, Necrotic Lance. I've seen people say its trash but it wrecks havoc when used correctly. This is listed: Level 2 - Bewildering Spectacle, Curse of Blackened Sight, Mirrored Image, Concelhaut's Corrosive Siphon, Vital Essence out of which I would probably cast only MI and Curse on regular bases/per encounter. So no, no rotation.
  13. White women are by far the most universally liked of all the races, so you have your pick of the litter. I would also wager a guess that cRPGs are played most prominently by white people, so that would be a target audience as well. I know people like to pretend that we're all equal, but the simple fact is that there are differences between people of different descent, and negroid physical features in women are often considered less attractive than those of other races. So, if you're gonna try and make an attractive black woman character, the best selection of women to model your character on will likely be some of the famous "black" women (since fame is largely about appearance these days). But also more than likely is that you'll end up with a handful of mulatto women whose physical features are more white than black. It's not racist to acknowledge the differences between the human races and how these features affect the perceptions of people around them. There is no such a thing as biological race when it comes to humans, may wanna check on that with real anthropologist like AAA. However, can you support the claim about white women or is this something everyone knows? Not gonna even ask for evidence of your wager because .. lol You got lot to work with now anyway.
  14. Sounds like anthropology experts here If anything sounds remotely racist its the thought .. about making black female character. I mean, so what you gonna do if you intend to make white female character? You don't need to pick famous attractive white chick? lol I love internet.
  15. Well, Int 8 is intelligence of Antelope in this game. It is not my problem nor fault there is disconnect by design. Intelligence, despite description, does not "represent logic and reasoning" (unless there are some magical antelopes capable of logic and reasoning) it represents Area of Effect, Duration and Will. That is it. In this light, talking about low intelligence and incoherent dialogues is well not too logical nor reasoned well.
  16. I started Skaen with Stiletto and Ruffian few times but .. the burning one could be interesting. The thing I have with Priest and Druid, unlike Wizard, is their casting speed.
  17. Indeed, the only way to know is to test it yourself. Petrify trap only 1 though. 175 is generous limit, in my experience 2x much as needed, but more fights means more need for rest. --- edit: to follow up on my last remark .. trying to do this, with 10 rest limitation, one would need to pick character stats carefully to comply with dialogue requirements needed to solve certain quests in certain way. 10 rest limitation also limits availability of bonuses from resting which come quite handy exactly for conversation options.
  18. Disagree. Because then you'd have to have a scale that went into negative numbers to cover animals/creatures, some of which might be even less intelligent that the most mentally challenged human. Thus the reason for suggesting 8 as the floor, so that there's room below it to cover all the rest of the animals/creatures in the game. You can disagree any way you like but it does not change the fact that there is no way to tell how Int 2 compares to IQ. Unless you have some statement from developers clearing this up.
  19. I do not believe in triple crown but <10 rests could be doable. I am not sure where you get the: "Pacifism severely restricts the amount of XP and money you can get, and more importantly, the figurines you can get your hands on." from, but it is not close to reality.
  20. Out of curiosity, how long it took you to achieve this? Because it was 24 hours ago you said you were on it.
  21. For pure caster, which imo is the most powerful variant, I would say Wood Elf. You will not be 4m away all the time but it can be arranged. Though its not gonna make or break the character. Even Wild Orlan. With high Will attack on Will is free buff For solo even Aumaua for stun/prone defense and super Mig. I would not worry about it much. --- edit: someone mentioned Pale Elf + Bulwark of Elements ~ good to go to fire and ice
  22. No surprise there. Stronghold mechanics are garbage, man. Too bad because I do like the concept and some of the details implemented. Has potential.
  23. Mine broke free with 42 security irrc and I was pouring money into security only for this reason as the game told me, before, my security was low. So what is not low? Never got an item also.
  24. Max effective cipher accuracy is around 160, so yeah, that's like 22% miss chance, so luck reliant. After that though he'll make a nice puppet). And both statues have crap will save (1 is a bit better but still not super impressive). You have done it or this is in theory? One has around 80 and the other around 120, not sure how their buffs work into it. I am not saying its impossible. I corrected myself. I charmed them myself with item .. but as you said, its roll reliant and Thaos is pretty much invulnerable at the beginning. --- edit: I was considering setting Gaze trap where he initially spawns to prevent him from casting initial buffs, then to do something with the statues but never got to try it as seemed safer to use the trap to finish him.
