Yet another Aloth Thread
Skazz replied to Slotharingia's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Regardless of any issues related to his inclusion, I still think that Aloth's introduction and fake backstory as "Engferth" is a comedic highlight of the Port Maje segment of the game. The guy has such an uncreative mind. -
I think only the main guy was a bleak walker, the others were only his hirelings. I considered that but checked on the Wiki and some of the others do appear to be Bleak Walkers. Maybe they just thought the boss was an idiot. It's the other way around - it's the boss who overstepped his bounds as a Bleak Walker, which is why the other two leave him. You can make them realize that he's using his position to excuse his pointless sadism (which is not what being BW is about), and his more professional bodyguards leave him immediately.

Yeah, sadly, they're not. Not even a Head tab in the customization menu.

Alternatively, it's the far future many years after the Breaking of the Wheel; the Oldwalls and the Spires are the last remnants of a failed animancy project meant to fix it. The God's are long dead, and humanity has forgotten the existence of the soul; it is now manipulated only unconsciously and instinctively through the prism of belief. Technology has regressed to the bronze age again, and all knowledge of the past was lost due to the effects of the last animancy project, which shattered the world an caused Orlans to turn into Beastmen. The other Kith races were slaughtered in anti-animancy pograms. Goodbye Eora. Welcome to Terratus, where evil won. The only issue I see in this angle is that TBW pretty much states outright that the Oldwalls were built by the Beastmen.

I'm more curious why this appears to be first thing people check about their companions.

You know, if the publisher stuff weren't the issue here, I could absolutely see it working. The Bastard's Wound DLC mentions explicitly that the beastmen of Terratus used to have many, many subdivisions in ancient past, and that these subdivisions came in all shapes and sizes: small, big, furry, lithe, even shark-like... which seems to cover roughly ninety percent of kith races of Eora. Hmm.

Where's Naasitaq?
Skazz replied to Skazz's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Good point. I stand corrected. I still kind of want my arctic dwarves, though. -
I saw Josh Sawyer at a grocery store in Irvine yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Nutri-Grain bars in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

So, um, excuse me if this is a dumb or obvious question. I mean, it's entirely likely that I've missed something in my playthrough, but this is a question that's been bugging me for a while, and I can't find an answer on the internets that would help me one way or another. In any case... Isn't Naasitaq - Sagani's island and home of the boreal dwarves - supposed to be part of the Deadfire Archipelago? It's not currently in the game, is it? I mean, I get that resources are limited, but it's still kind of weird that it didn't manage to get into a game that is supposed to be exactly about this particular corner of the woh, who am I kidding. WHY MUST YOU HATE THE DORFS, JOSH? AREN'T INUIT DORFS AT LEAST *KIND OF* COOL? WHYYYY

Awesome! Thank you! -
Oh, God... This sounds like a harrowing couple of weeks. I'm so sorry. I hope things get better for you and your wife.

If you want to get into Stellaris DLCs, you should definitely get Utopia and Apocalypse. The rest is far less essential.

It's a bit of an older thing, but out of curiosity: how do you feel about enforced hyperlane drives?

I liked Tyranny's setting and its Pratchettesque metaphysics a lot. The experimental approach to certain traditional RPG mechanics (yay for spell creation!) was a big plus for me, too, but that's largely a matter of taste. In the end, aside from some surface stuff, it's a completely different beast than PoE. The Bastard's Wound DLC was a bit of a 50:50 for me, but even if you dislike the questline itself, the DLC still improves a wide variety of preexisting content, so it's not a bad purchase by any means.
