Edér: What happened?
Skazz replied to Galagraphia's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Hmm? I think it's too subtle for me. People tend to simplify Eder's PoE 1 endings as a choice between "guy gets religious" and "guy becomes atheist", but that's doing the writing a disservice, and I think it's never been intended to be quite so clear-cut as that. Eder's so-called "religious" ending in PoE 1 isn't as much him reinforcing his faith in a god as him realizing than it ultimately doesn't really matter. The question whether Eothas is a constructed entity - or alive, or even real - becomes irrelevant because it's not about getting a tangible miracle from some arcane power but rather the ideas that this supposed "power" stands for. In many ways, it's a refreshingly real depiction of the maturation of one's beliefs in a game that sometimes likes to be way too blunt about such issues. Like many companions in PoE, Eder sets out to discover an objective answer to his reality, and while he never finds the be-all and end-all divine authority to absolve himself, that's still okay because he comes to understand that "Eothas" is an idea that can be used to inspire others to greater heights: to kindness, to charity, to forgiveness. To, as Eder would say, do good by folks. The fact that one of the first things Eder asks you in Deadfire is something along the lines of "should I still believe in Eothas or not" feels like a horrible oversimplification of this personal journey. If there's one character from PoE that should know better, it's Eder. -

Can’t wait for his solo Saint’s War prequel. The funny thing is, in a manner of speaking, this has already happened. The Eder-Elafa short story, anyone? -
Edér: What happened?

Eder is a bit like Han Solo in Return of the Jedi : he's mainly there there for popularity reasons, but at that point, his character arc is over, and thus he feels somewhat out of the place in the story. In the end, I can agree that the decision to bring him back diminished his character in Deadfire a little bit. For example, compare the subtlety of his PoE Night Market ending slide realization to the Deadfire's binary "is is worth it to follow Eothas anymore" conundrum. That said, even despite these flaws, it's clear to me that they did their best to make Eder feel like Eder, and there's really no other character I'd rather have at my side for a sequel. -
RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS - VISUAL NOVELS ALLOWED

I'll see your Fallout MMO and raise you Fallout Battle Royale. That was my first thought too, a Fortnite-type Fallout game. I mean, it's almost too easy, what with the popularity of the genre and the setting meshing with that kind of game extremely well. -

One can dream, though. -
See, this is exactly why I don't like them. They seem to be having a bit too much fun playing games and being petty. Two-thirds of Deadfire content could be summarized as "people get desperate because a god (typically Ondra) doesn't give a damn". And if a god doesn't care about their worshippers, then I don't see a reason why a worshipper should care about their god. Sure, souls may be just a resource to them, and the gods may have been created to keep things both orderly and stale, but that also means they were created to be in charge of things. They should take responsibility. To whip out one of my favorite Discworld quotes of all time:

Watcher-specific skills

I haven't noticed it. That's actually a pretty cool touch. Gib more of those! -
I'm kind of surprised that Maia seems to be so disliked. Out of the new (non-sidekick) companions, she was probably my favorite. Seeing Tekehu get more humble with time also warmed him up in my eyes a lot. Do people just dump him after the initial conversation or something? Because I can agree that it's where he's at his worst. Ekera.

I like how I immediately knew who "Two Whoops and a Holler" is. EDIT: Oh, and also: You and me both. I may be a mindless dwarf fanboy, but Konstanten really seemed like a barrel of fun waiting to be unleashed... but nope, sidekick.

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS - VISUAL NOVELS ALLOWED

I think I need to tell myself this more often. I get depressed by stuff like that way too easily. -
Why shouldn't there be two types of godlike? A godlike of Gaun would likely not look like a godlike of Eothas - and yet it's the same entity in two different aspects. It's the same with marine/moon goodlike. One is Ngati, the other is Ondra. EDIT: Also, keep in mind that these types (death/fire/moon etc) of godlike are more or less artificial labels given for mechanical reasons. As far as I remember, nobody in-universe ever refers to Pallegina as being one of "the avian godlike". They're always referred to as belonging to certain gods, and that's it. It's not too much of a stretch to think that gods can choose to visually express different parts of their domains for different godlike.

Norsca, Queen & Crone dlc, Alith Anar flc, Ungrim Ironfist gets moved to his own faction in Mortal Empires, lots of other changes like reworked Skaven food mechanic... finally WH2 is getting some content again Wait, Ungrim gets moved to Karak Kadrin? I thought that was just a fan wish. This may be my favorite addition. Long live (or not) the Slayer King!

Roll a corpse eater and sample the dudes from Pallegina's quest. Or romance Tekehu. Also, great fanart, although I prefer decaying anglefishhead original Ondra. The decaying anglerfish Ondra is more Ondra-as-Ngati, so her purely marine aspect as seen on Tekehu. The fanart depicts Ondra as we knew her from PoE 1: a goddess of the moon first and foremost, which is why she looks like a moon godlike. It's a bit like the whole Eothas-Gaun distinction.

Sweet, thank you for this! Time to start thinking of a possible character.
