  1. I always play exactly what I am in real life, which is a paranoid schizophrenic goth girl that likes to sneak up behind people and either gnaw off their heads or repeatedly stab them in the back. Sometimes, you just have to stick with what you're best at.

  2. For me it depends on the game. I often don’t feel a character represents “me” as much as being an actor in a play that I direct. Some games I’ll play buff macho types and some games I’ll play very feminine characters. Again, depends on the role they play in the piece. The games I have/had the most characters created in would be Star Wars the old republic. Sixty characters spread over four servers (ie averaging fifteen per server). The game being somewhat primitive (compared to Guild Wars 2) means no api for web access to your characters, so I always did book keeping in Excel. Turns out the gender split is 50/50. Ranging from half naked Conan type Jedi guardian to lithe deadly imperial agent girls who love vex sneaking, poisoning and backstabbing As for the real me, I suspect I have a fondness for sneaky and stealthy characters because I am anything but in real life. @Azdeus has seen a picture of me and can probably confirm I’m not going to sneak up upon anyone

  3. Has there been an update on that? Last I heard they're not only beefing up the content but rebalancing* the path powers. Maybe it'll be more Shifter compatible. *

  4. Yeah, with the world's name Thedas (aka The Dragon Age Setting), one of the towns named Lothering etc. it does look more like something that evolved from D&D session that took 4 years. Thing is, the world made sense and had enough verisimilitude so that if I had questions of how and why something happened, it was easy to find explanations without breaking game's inner logic and it was fun to play (still is). Second game had this too if you squinted at the story through tacked-on decisions like "We need boss fight either way!" or "No time for too different branches", but it was buried under the pile of stupid. By the third game pile of stupid turned into mountain of stupid, and from what I read about the last one they pretty much threw everything away and now's it just generic high fantasy.

  5. Having multiple characters also means Bartimaeus has more targets to repeatedly stab, so more characters may escape.

  6. I usually play multiple characters in a game because I like to see multiple paths and see what different playstyles are like. Also have a bad case of rerollitis. Don't really identify with them or try a self-insert, because a 30-something weirdo with esoteric beliefs and a(n unhealthy) fixation on Lynchian media is probably not going to be possible. Except in BG3, in which both that and @Bartimaeus's true self are covered by The Dark Urge.

  7. Most games don't allow for protagonists with gnawed off heads. That is why people in Bartimaeus' vicinity have trouble identifying with video game characters.

  9. Stormcaller is pretty fine versus Animat and other foes sensitive to shock damage. Other great weapons for ranger are which ones that proc stun: Borresaine, One-Eyed Molina's Gold-Fingered Spike-Flinger (also very fast if patched), Rod of Pale Shades (also decrease defense), Aedrin's Wrecker; not to mention the only ranged weapon with prone effect: Puitènte med Príncipi (also tow damege types). These makes ranger great also in CC. With blunderbusses you can proc stun realiable with Driving Flight, Twinned Arrows and Stunning Shots. Also Golden Gaze is good in that and has a nice proc. Fast ranged weapons is also cool: The Rain of Godagh Field, Wendgär, Forgiveness, Pretty Pretty's Rib (also Rending). Twin Sting is awesome to proc Predator's Sense and has also a great spellchance. Marking weapons is another wonderful thing in a party: St. Garam's Spark, Pliambo per Casitàs (also disorienting!), Cgadob's Hazel. With ranger's high accuracy also Annihilation is and awesome enchantment: Dulcanale (also Rending), Sabra Marie. Fulvano's Blunderbuss can make you a charme spammer and Silver Flash is insane with blind effect. Sure I'm forgetting other good synergies, but we are plenty of weapons for rangers, while Rogue has less chance to stun, prone etc. with weapons, if they take them they remove a weapon for other people (think about barbs...), they can rely on usual sabres and Annihilation enchants and above all they must (not always, but often) go melee without a bodyguard (as AC is). Early game rangers are also more effective with their accuracy form distance, rogue is too squishy and can't rely on many abilities, while ranger is good yet also with only autoattack. I hope you can experiment and see

  10. I can definetly confirm that he's more buff macho type in body than very feminine or lithe

  11. Fairly sure I'd heard similar. I think it was DGaider? on his blog or in an interview saying that they'd developed the setting prior to DAO via pnp rpg or similar? Can't find a reference with a quick search so can't be certain I'm not mixing it up with something else though.

  12. Yeah. I expected nothing, but it turned out pretty good. Some fresh takes on things, and even if the premise seems super obvious, they find a way to switch things up. Some later episodes are quite short, though. Think some were like 12 minutes or something if you remove intro and outro, but oh well. Season 2 intro song is VERY clearly inspired by the 5th Element opera scene, but I'm digging it hard.

  13. I got that impression from DAVe. Mainly because the big plot seemed much more interesting than all the details.

  14. It has two damage types (shock/pierce) which is pretty good. The only other bow that does this is Sagani's Massuk Hunting Bow. Edit: btw. Heart of the Storm (+20% dmg for shock attacks) works for both the arrow damage (no matter whether pierce or shock gets used) as well as the Returning Storm proc.

  16. I'll check it out. TBH, I've never used it before as a main weapon, because I've always valued Persistence and Borresaine so highly.

  17. David Gaider probably had a long term plan, but I doubt that exists anymore.

  18. Its not that I am unconvinced, just unconvinced so far. It seems like Twinned Arrows is the breakthrough moment for the class, and I haven't reached there yet. I'm close though, so I'll be testing it shortly and post what I think.

  19. I hate to **** on your friends, but that's giving Bioware too much credit. To say nothing of how the writers room has had complete turnover a fea times now.

  20. My friend is telling me that it's not a shadow council but the forgotten gods, but he is also certain that the whole story was written before DA:O development even started.

  21. Yeah, it takes time these days for me to get into those highly guided movies. I am so used to having agency (or being guided seemlesly) that when game so restrictive and so heavy handed it takes me out. Had this experience with Red Dead2 and Cyberpunk. There is enjoyment to be had once one switches the brain off and arrears it more like a movie with audience engagement.

  22. The Table 87 Pizza actually had decent reviews from the cooks. I've been looking for a place that has them so I can give it a try. The vacuum sealing makes sense.

  24. I generally go with the Alucard aesthetic. So, like, the boy version of @Bartimaeus' goth girl.

  25. We bought a new TV, so I was looking for a fun action movie to break it in with. We tried Infinite with Mark Wahlberg. It looked great on our TV, but it was really bad. We got about 20 minutes in before giving up. We ended up watching Chernobyl on HBO Max. Much better.
