  1. Thanks everyone. It's been a hard week and I've been too tired to really focus on anything after having to deal with grief, doing all the work to set up the cremation and viewing, and helping to rearrange the house after all of the hospice care machinery was taken back. My dad already did some of the planning because he was adamant about not having a funeral and wanted to be cremated, but there's always calls to make and hoops to jump through to make it actually happen. At this point I'm not feeling as sad but just very tired. A guy broke a chair at the viewing, it's sturdy enough that you'd really have to work at it to break it, so I have no idea how he would have done that. My dad would have thought it was funny. Excuse you, I have written a several essays on chainmail bikinis. One of them is very 100000 words.

  2. Touareg rebels in Mali have ambushed convoy with Russian Wagner terrorists in the northern province bordering Algeria. More than dozen casualties has been reported, including of the owner of the Grey Zone propaganda channel. Later the Touaregs has been spreading photos of them celebrating holding Ukrainian flag. https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2024/07/29/7467948/ EDIT: Touareg rebels also promised to hand out the captured Russians to Ukraine. It is said, that Among them, there is also a guy, who commanded campaign against Soledar, before Wagner mutiny. Although It is not known yet, if he actually survived the ambush.

  3. New update soon today! Will fix some stuff mentioned here, also added syntax highlighting and auto-completions to the Query text editor which should make it considerably more user friendly:

  4. Maybe because the damaging spells of ciphers aren't super impressive in general compared to some other of the cipher's abilities (for example mind control). Since ciphers have potentially unlimited resources their damaging spells aren't as impactful as Wizards', Priests' and Druids' in most cases - but they can cast more of them in an encounter (if they manage ro generate enough focus). Disintegration is great if you can make it hit (or even crit). Especially against tough single foes it's a great damaging spell. For that to go nicely a party member with a Morning Star + weapon proficiency is very helpful: hit (or even only graze) the enemy with Body Blows from the Morning Star (which lowers the fortitude defense a lot), then cast Disintegration with Ydwin on him. Best would be to charm or dominate him before or after - for example with the help of Serafen - so that the slowly dying enemy doesn't bother you anymore but even helps you - as long as alive. Fortunately a charmed enemy will not get flipped back to hostile from Disintegration (or Soul Ignition which stacks with Disintegration but doesn't do raw damage but burn and has to overcome enemies' burn AR in order to be effective). So you can charm an enemy and calmly cast Disintegration on them afterwards which makes the process a bit more flexible. Both beam spells (Antipathetic Field and Ectopsychic Echo) are good if your positioning and movement is great (for example when using Boots of Speed and immunity to disengagement attacks from Nomad's Brigandine or Gipon Prudensco) - and if you have enough PENentration and ACCuracy. They also don't rely on INT at all. Antipathetic Field is the go-to spell to use in combination with Death of 1000 Cuts. Both are also great in combination with Combusting Wounds (from Aloth for example). For a nice combo of disruption and AoE damage Amplified Wave is still very good. But you have to watch your PEN and the enemies' AR. It does crush damage - so it's great to lower crush AR in an AoE before using it. This can be done with Expose Vulnerabilities (Wizard), a Mace with modal + Clear Out (Fighter), Hel Hyraff (Chanter) or the Sungrazer flail (its enchantment that lowers crush AR by 1 also works with spells from that character iirc). Stuff like Mind Lance and Mind Blades is cool, but the damage:focus ratio isn't very good in most cases. Soul Shock is a lot better in that regard - IF you can ramp up your AoE size (more INT mostly) and PEN - as well as having an ally that's often surrounded by enemies (like a main tank). The biggest hurdle for good DPS with Soul Shock is your casting speed and your focus generation. A combo of Reaping Knives on a fast attacking party member (like your Soulblade maybe?) with Time Parasite can give you a great outcome with spamming Soul Shock. Reaping Knives - despite their description - generate 5 focus per hit. If your party member does a full attack you get 10 focus - that's one Soul Shock. Now if the Reaping Knives wielder attacks twice as fast as you can cast and recover from Soul Shock you can spam it endlessly (in theory). A Psion would be the best subclass for this but it would also work with Ydwin. Unfortunately Deltro's Cage, which would boost the Power Level of Soul Shock by 2 points, would slow you down. I don't know if it's worth it (besides its protective benefits of course).

  7. The autocomplete on gamedata query, looks fantastic! There are 2 features of conversations I was wondering if you would consider adding support for in the Apotheosis conversation editor: A way to edit the ExternalVO field within Apotheosis. This is used to specify a path to an existing audio file. The primary use for this is to play audio for a duplicate line that's in the current conversation, or to play audio from another conversation entirely. An example of this field in use can be found in "27_cv_court_of_woedica_player_interrupts" on nodes: "166", "182", "201", "207", and "208". This a weird one, I noticed while trying to debug a conversations there are sometimes conditions on node links. I'm not really sure what the use case for this above just putting the conditional on the node that it is linked to. But there are only about 77 cases of this being used across the base game & DLCs conversations. An example of this is in "04_cv_queen_onezaka_ii_sabotage_quest.conversationbundle", where the the link from "181" to "182" has a conditional that the player's relationship with Maia be Negative or Very Negative.

  8. 2024-07-29 Fixed DLC StringTables not being compiled to apotheosis_exported. Corrupt conversation StringTables files are now skipped rather than causing CTDs when compiling vanilla data. Users can now rename and delete GameDataObjects through the Game Data sidebar context menu. Apotheosis will now check for updates before performing a first-time setup. Removed DataEventScriptComponent as an optional component to Ability/Attack GameDataObject types. Text in Quest pages now properly updates when the localization is changed. Added syntax highlighting, auto-completions and multi-line editing to the Game Data Query sidebar! Auto-completions are now automatically closed if... the active text range has been split up in several syntax tokens (e.g. typing a comma after 'Fireball'). the user presses backspace while the cursor is at the start of the active text range. Opening auto-completion while the cursor is in existing text (e.g. 'Fireball') will... no longer select that text (the cursor will remain where it is). no longer initially filter the list of options based on that text, instead the best match will be selected. (The list will be filtered once the user starts typing.) Pressing Ctrl+Enter in an expression editor will have the same effect as pressing "Accept". Pressing Ctrl+Space will close an auto-completion window.

  9. Uh oh, that sounds particularly dangerous to my play style! Whenever I PnP (which is never), I like to accumulate several Ogre sized RoP and wear them as a dong sleeve. Completely naked otherwise and making direct eye contact with my enemies. What are your thoughts on boobplate? Ive read voluminous posts about how that armor would actually hurt the user, because it would direct the weapon impact into the sternum.

  10. Pumpkin Jack. An action-adventure. I did not expect the game to be so arcade-y, like the movie-based games in the 00's. Can't say that I get the humour, but the story about a rogue being resurrected and sent to slay the chosen one is fine. The Outer Worlds. Close to finishing the Emerald Vale. Somehow, I am still inclined to support the Botanical Lab, rather than helping Adelaide to become the leader of the town, but I also would like to go to the best ending. I think, the Gorgon DLC interferes with the skill checks and I could not uninstall it, while reinstalling the whole game is undesirable (GOG installers go through the OS drive, which does not have enough space at the moment). Somewhat unhappy that the PC by default is closer to disapproving of recycling the corpses to improve the soil, while using the already dead fish for food, instead of killing the living, is shown as negative. I have also tried sequence-breaking, but Reed (his access code and the card, in particular) seems to be unavoidable. Might look more into it.

  12. A faster LoH is really interesting, great idea. Retaliation on all damage can be occasionally broken if the party take enemy AoE, but I guess it's also a justified reward for intentionally getting into trouble. A healing-heavy party with mediocre defenses and a Darcozzi seems fun.

  13. OK, so I thought about Darcozzi Paladini a bit. I think there is nothing intresically wrong in a retaliation effect. This was the initial intention of the subclass to allow retaliations through Lay on Hand. The core philosophy of BPM is to try to remain in line with initial intent. Retaliations are also quite in line with Paladin fluff, so there could be a subclass specialized in it. However, there are a few reasons that make it not working very well : 1) The damage values. Anyway, this is the least priority to be addressed once the rest has been cleaned up, since it is quite easy to tweak values. An obvious part for me is that PEN should scale well (+0.5 PEN per PL instead of +0.25 PEN). 2) Retaliation on melee damages. Not all foes are going to attack you with melee, which makes it a bit conditional. This is less an issue for Fire Godlike or Flame Shield because they are only up on 1 of your character. You are going to make this character your frontline tank, so the melee retaliation will work well enough on them. But Darcozzi Lay on Hand is supposed to be spammed on as much party member as possible, which make the melee damages more conditional. => I think Darcozzi Fire Shield would work well if it retaliated from all source of damages (melee, ranged weapons, spell and abilities). This way, it would be more likely to produce some effect. 3) Darcozzi Fire Shield would work better if it was spammed on as many targets as possible, as soon as they take a few hit. This is a completely different playstyle from standard LoH (even more Shieldbearers' special) that are supposed to be emergency backup. But why wouldn't you want to spam it ? 1 Zeal isn't that much after all... Easy answer : because using LoH is freaking slow to use. A Paladin tends to be encaged in big steel and has no good speed up effect. Auras are passive, Exhortations are instant, but when you happen to use your few abilities with an actual recovery, you are going to use a lifetime to recover. For things such as Sacred Immolation or Light of Pure Zeal, this isn't very annoying, but for your little Tier 1 ability that you want to spam all over your party, that won't just work well. => I think Darcozzi Lay on Hand should ALSO get a faster recovery. 0.5/2s cast/recovery would be a really interesting buff as well as a much better synergy with their retaliation effect. Fluff-wise, I think it would fit to have Darcozzi Paladini quickly inspiring every party member with the living memory of the fires of Darcozzi Palace. To summarize, my current proposal would be : - Cast/Recovery for LoH/GLoH/HoL set to 0.5s/2s for Darcozzi Paladini as a secondary subclass feature - 45s fire shield which retaliates on every damage source - +4 AR vs Cold damages (no changes - around 6-10 base damages 7 base PEN (scaling +5% damages, +5% duration, +2 Acc, +0.5 PEN per Tier). These numbers can be discussed and take into account my intention to buff all retaliation effects - Flame Shield would be buffed to 16-24 with lesser scaling and only works vs melee. I might also : - reduce duration but increases damages (spammability) - give better value to Tier 3 GLoH/HoL fire shield compared to LoH one. I think this could be an interesting possibility because I fear the effect above could be a relatively more powerful at the lowest levels, so some staggering could help.

  14. Sorry for your loss KP. For what it's worth, you know we are here for you to talk about stupid things that don't really matter, like the ratio of skin left uncovered to the protection offered by chainmail bikini, if you need a distraction.

  15. Lily C.A.T. (1987). It's like an Alien and The Thing two-for-one combo rip-off, but instead of being the best thing ever like it should be, it's just pretty alright. It's the only one of these I don't have any misgivings about having watched. A.D. Police Files (1990). (If I could find a not terrible quality poster for this, it would be inserted here.) @Malcador reminded me that this exists. Overall, not a huge fan: first episode (lady cyborg who goes crazy because of being overworked) was pretty meh, second episode (lady cyborg who goes crazy because she couldn't go back to being fully human again) was O.K., third episode (guy cyborg who goes crazy because he replaced his entire body with machine parts and then got addicted to steroids) was pretty bad. None of them had anything to do with each other except for exploring similar ideas, they're standalone stories within the Bubblegum Crisis setting, which seemed to at least be better and more consistent than this, though I've yet to finish it. Windaria (1986). Felt vaguely like a Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind rip-off in terms of visuals, tone, and style...but pretty bad because of atrocious characters and writing, neither elements of which had much if any resemblance to Nausicaa. Look, the girl in the poster even stole Nausicaa's fox-squirrel pet. Not that it does anything throughout the whole film...or, uh, maybe it did and I already forgot. The story is some really basic Romeo and Juliette crap, and I really don't have any interest in describing it further. Golgo 13: Queen Bee (1998). This is one of the worst things I've ever seen. One of those cases I've mentioned before where it attempts to have some kind of story and emotional core that the viewer is supposed to connect with but because it's so completely terrible and at odds with itself (while also offering nothing else of interest), watching mindless action trash would have been less offensive. I hope the idiots that made this stub their pinky toes in real life today.

  16. I watched a whole lot of movies recently, here's the ones I remember enough to post about Bottle Rocket (1996) Wes Anderson's best film, before he got carried away with unnatural symmetry. It's a very Texas movie, not quite Fargo in Texas but close enough for that to make sense. Hamlet (2000) Kyle MacLachlan wields his unsettling chin to great effect. Not nearly as iconic as Romeo+Juliet, but a good adaptation regardless. Arcadian (2024) Nic Cage in dad mode for a post-apocalyptic horror that is also coming of age for two teenage sons. The high point was the monster design, which is the most unsettling I've seen in quite some time. Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring - Extended Cut (2001) I wish there were more 4+ hour movies with intermissions. I think 10-hour series tend to get carried away while sometimes you need a few more hours to tell an epic.
