Strong personalities/people tend to be afraid of going down the road of slow decline and having to depend on someone else to help them do basic things and in some cases they are afraid of becoming a burden. My grandma is like that. She is strong as an ox, but sadly her heart is not up to the task anymore. But still she doesn't want to let up and does a lot of stuff day to day that wring her out by the end or simply crash her. On the one hand it's speeding up her demise, on the other it's keeping her occupied and alive. Her wish is a quick death and not a slow process that takes her down piece by piece.2 points

Obviously, I very much respect, support, and enjoy the fruits of indie game development, but AAA studios are largely the only ones capable of making large and cutting-edge games - with the resources to fully realize their worlds, stories, characters, audio, environments, et al. in new and different ways that really push the medium forward. Most of the games I've enjoyed within the past ten years have been indie-developed titles, but while indie developers are great at doing some things, there's a lot that they simply can't do given their realities of manpower and resources. It's pretty much the same way @Gorgon has often bemoaned the state of studio film-making: while smaller and independent-ish films made today can be great for what they can do and what they try to accomplish, their small cast of actors, their inability to have expensive visual effects, their limited options for sets/locations, the kinds of stories and settings that they can realistically try to explore given their limitations...well, if you're like Gorgon and you want new, big, exciting films that come out with large fanfare rather than just more soulless, over-formulaic Hollywood dreck pushed out for the sake of being a product, your options for new things to watch start to get sad pretty quickly. It's the same way I really like 2D animated movies/shows (especially when it's traditional animation), and while I still occasionally find things that I like, you just don't see any great big 2D animation productions of any kind any more: it's all smaller, budget-limited stuff aimed at very specific niche audiences. I have largely accepted that I am never going to experience anything new in that vein that even approaches the heights of my favorite things released in the 80s and 90s, some stuff that I first watched as a kid but also some stuff that I first watched as an adult, and that's just the way it's going to be given the realities of the relevant industries. But it didn't used to always be this way, with either film or video games or animation. Times change, and it can be painful to try to adapt when it seems like nothing scratches the itch for your particular want. On a side-note, there is just so much content (a lot garbage, but certainly not all of it!) being constantly pushed out for pretty much every medium that it's absolutely overwhelming to try to find what you might like, particularly if your tastes aren't very mainstream. I very much regret that there are games, movies, television shows, musical artists, books et al. that I would love and which would prove meaningful to me and others I might share them with...if only I could find and experience them. But I can't, because they're drowned out by the endless tidal waves of everything else, and there's not enough time in the day or my life for me to realistically do anything about it.2 points

I've been praying for a video game industry crash for like the past ten years, but haven't ever seen much evidence of it materializing. It'd hurt like hell in the short term, but it seems to be the only way forward to really shake things up and get another decade or two of good games instead of just...products only made for extracting money out of us. And if it kills off a few companies like Ubisoft in the process, how can you be upset about that? I'd drop a nuke on their headquarters myself if I could. ...Uh, maybe my rhetoric got a little extreme there, but you know what I mean.2 points

https://www.law.cornell.edu/supremecourt/text/457/731 clinton were ordered to sit for a deposition in a criminal matter and then took a perjury charge 'cause he lied during that interview with the criminal prosecutor. a bunch o' lawyers for trump during his second impeachment argued he shouldn't be convicted by the senate 'cause the proper venue for the insurrection charges were criminal court. oh, and for f's sake, nixon was pardoned by President Ford. ford pardoned nixon even though there were no impeachment and senate conviction. the feds were bringing criminal charges against watergate coconspirators, had indicted nixon's co-conspirators and were about to indict the former President, so Ford pardoned... and absolutely nobody in 74 thought Ford's controversial pardon was pointless 'cause nixon were immune from prosecution. Ford ended any chance o' being elected in the next election by pardoning nixon, so am certain he woulda' been overjoyed to hear a pardon were unnecessary. a fed district court has already ruled against trump. an appeals court ruled 3-0 against trump. tribe is unquestioned the most quoted Constitutional scholar in the US. luttig is arguable the most respected living textualist (conservative.) this immunity argument is... stoopid. the Court taking the case is not so suspicious 'cause obvious there is much public confusion and a Court determination might convince a few folks who consume nothing but breitbart and fox news that Presidential immunity (save for in the civil context or while aa President is in office,) is utter unamerican and is so unconstitutional it should be decided almost immediate 9-0... save for fact J. Alito and j. thomas has both gone to a very dark and improbable place following the death o' J. Scalia. am having great difficulty explaining aa few recent alito and thomas opinions. J. Roberts, on the other hand... am suspecting he is doing everything possible not to hear this case. took 49 days to go from a district court opinion to SCOTUS hearing in the similar nixon situation. over 140 days for this Court to hear trump's immunity claims? SCOTUS granting cert is not shocking, but the delay from december to now is... curious. Presidential immunity would not have been a controversial issue... previous to trump. can offer more cites, but is just so stoopid. HA! Good Fun! ps keyboard's "a" is no longer trustworthy.1 point

Hover is definitely a Blaster's good friend once you get used to it. Lurking just above melee reach and remembering to move around as you snipe and blast them down. And for the amusement, here we go with the fashion display: (And not in Squid form but...) While on the villain side of it I have: and1 point

Hey Sarex, Thanks for the heads up. We had a certificate for the MS Login expire and renewed the certificate on Tuesday. I also heard Fionavar was running into the same issue as you whereas I haven't seemed to run into this yet. I'll have our web programmer take a look tonight to see if he can see what might be causing the issue. If you have any updated in the coming days, please let us know so we can be better informed on the issue. Thanks as always and sorry for the trouble with the login system.1 point

Did another play through of Disco Elysium. Will probably do the last part again with the other partner just to experience it.1 point

PL bonuses get applied to the base damage roll (that's a multiplicative dmg increase), unfortunately you cannot see them in the combat log. There you will only see the additive damage bonuses. The roll of 61.6 damage is well within the bounds of 54-91 which the tooltip suggested - so everything seems to be in order with this roll.1 point

it's very possible that the PL adjustment is applied directly to the roll. This happens with martial abilities most obviously (the ones that say "full attack" or "primary attack"), if you empower them there's no evidence of a damage boost in the combat log calculations but you'll definitely be rolling numbers well outside what should be possible. i haven't tested scrolls extensively, but ISTR that they should be getting all the correct PL bonuses and it might be that they just get the damage adjustments directly to their rolls. it's cumulative with inversions, which is similar (but not as strong as) to combining multiplicatively. So the last bounce will be really weak. (This hurts the druid's Firebug a lot, which has a -25% malus, so after just a few bounces you're doing piddling damage.) IIRC, all bounce effects in Deadfire continue to bounce even if one bounce misses. This is different from PoE1 where a miss would stop all bouncing (very annoying). However, abilities in Deadfire vary on whether or not they are allowed to re-affect an enemy they already hit. Chain Lightning will not bounce back to an enemy it already hit, so very often you'll get way fewer hits than you expect. (By contrast, the aforementioned Firebug will happily bounce back to foes it already hit, which helps make up for its massive malus.) If I had to hazard a guess, I would say most bounce effects re-affect an enemy, Chain Lightning is just among a handful of exceptions, probably for balance reasons (I would guess Cleansing Flame also doesn't re-affect enemies).1 point

My dad's back in the hospital, heart and lung issues are coming back. I'm trying not to be angry at him but his refusal to let anyone help him with anything until he practically collapses and his apparent delusion at the reality of his situation is just making me furious. I'm not a doctor and may be rushing to judgement but the fact is that he did not give himself time to rest and kept on trying to do stuff that left him winded and begging for help.0 points

This has been an issue for about the last ten years - that I know of. Elsagate and similarly disturbing content reached a very loud apogee back in 2017, but as always seems to be the case with censorship where there is both supply and demand, new guidelines and restrictions means that both the producers and the consumers just get more creative in how they communicate to one another. It's pretty grim, especially when you see the numbers on implicated creators, users, videos, and comments between YouTube and TikTok (and presumably other places as well). It's a whole new frontier of abuse and exploitation that these platforms clearly cannot even remotely keep up with, even with honest effort, and it's hard not to think that the public and political forces won't eventually catch wind of it and implement some very draconian measures in response - there doesn't seem to be too much else that could adequately deal with it. The idea of having to use your government-issued ID to register and upload videos to YouTube seems farcical and a little dystopian to me...but boy, every time I'm reminded of just how widespread this is, if it means less children being neglected, abused, and exploited (and less other children viewing this kind of stuff!), I guess I'd be pretty alright with not being able to casually upload to YouTube or anything similar ever again. There's also the uncomfortable fact in knowing that, you know, this sort of thing has clearly found a sizable audience that has internally normalized how they think and behave, so even if you deplatform all of it and them, they're still going to stick around and find other ways to interface with one another...but if you can make it way more difficult for them to attract new people and continue to grow, maybe you have at least a snowball in hell of a chance.0 points

I'm not really surprised, though tiktok is still worse It should be timestamped to the correct section I'm thinking about, but in case it should be at 8:570 points

Sadly those are the tame ones. I remember hearing about a video of some Russian teenager beating his wife who was sadly killed at a later date. There are a lot of death and violence videos that don't get removed. Instagram is even worse on this point, because it offers those videos in your feed.0 points

I am just responding to find out if there was a patch or a new method. I'm on the final quest and I just have to unlock the hedge ascent and it isn't unlocking for me.0 points
