  1. You know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and art is subjective, but prefering this Beamdog travesty over the original is probably as close to being objectively wrong about aesthetics as you can get.

  2. Because their philosophy is being sporty or at least it was. Even their SUVs are on the firm side. On a different note I rode in a new Q2 Audi in the back seat and I think an old time carriage had more suspension.

  3. I guess the logic is that old 3D ages really badly, while the kind of partially animated comic-style is kinda accepted for smaller games these days. ...And I have to say, personally I prefer the new ones. Neither are that great though.

  4. Should have taken a page from Owlcat's book and stacked dexterity on their characters right from the start. Fixing initiative after starting with low dex is pretty hard, and Russia has an advantage, as the pickpocket background gives an initiative bonus. I'll get my coat.

  5. I think I'd prefer to see the original video rendered at 160x120 rather than experience this hilarious travesty of artistry... ...but I'll do me, and you'll have to do you - for better and for worse, .

  6. Anyone remember Beamdog's remade BG1 cutscenes, where they replaced the original full motion videos with their bizarre comic book-style slideshows...while also still using cut-ups of the original audio from the full motion videos? Woof: boy, that was a tough scene from a number of angles. I know the original videos were these like horrifically compressed 640x480 MPEGs and they probably didn't feel using them made for a professional product, buuut...sometimes, ya just gotta know when to let things be.

  7. I don't mind the animated comic style of the video, but I think the quality of it is kinda bad. Looks like a fan made video and not something official.

  8. Off-topic, but art both is and isn't subjective; this has been repeatedly pointed out since at least the 1500s. For instance, while you may like whoever you please and there is essentially no debate about that, if you try to argue that Britney Spears is a better singer than Ella Fitzgerald or that Ed Wood is a better film director than Orson Welles, you just don't know what you're talking about, i.e. you are objectively wrong. Something similar applies to interpretations of artistic works: there's a continuum ranging from the true but trite to the outrageously wrong, when it comes to the question of what a work of art is "about" -- so if you say that Hamlet deals with loss and deceit, you're right but your observation is meaninglessly trite, whereas if you say that Hamlet is an extended metaphor for a frat boy party in Cancun, you're just outrageously wrong. The more interesting questions of interpretation, in this case, would deal with questions such as whether Hamlet is genuinely mad or merely pretending to be so, and whether his status, in this regard, changes during the play.

  9. And at least some have a problem if you encounter the event before getting the rumour

  10. In all fairness, life would be at least a little easier if I didn't always have to be such an unapologetically massive snob. It's a difficult burden to bear...uh, for myself, and also the people who have the unenviable task of tolerating me, . Speaking of editing the audio, they did: off the top of my head, they inexplicably took out the bit where the unnamed Bhaalspawn tries to plead and barter with Sarevok (who then punches the Bhaalspawn in the face), presumably in reference to the other Bhaalspawn that Sarevok is seeking. So on top of how cheap and ugly the whole affair looks, which already has the effect of eliminating any kind of tension and atmosphere that it had, it would seem to kill much of the intrigue/mystery that the original hinted at as well. I mean, we've all played these games so it doesn't really matter, but come on, this intro cutscene seems sadly all too emblematic of the rather sorry and misguided approach Beamdog took for the BG Enhanced Editions. Sigh. I'd have paid more for an Enhanced Edition that offered less by stripping all the nonsense they added to the game: give me the engine improvements and bugfixes, and let's just call it a day.

  11. Apologies, but since this is a forum with role-players on it, it's hard to avoid very bad jokes along the lines of "It would be quite a feat for either side to improve their initiative", whenever I see terms like that.

  12. I was about to say the same thing And it’s well meant advice. Bild is to Germany what the Daily Mail is to the UK

  13. Quite interesting indeed, thank you. I have certain ideas in mind and I am looking for a way to express it via Deadfire's system and at the same time not duplicate story companions and have a overall fun party. Hence at the moment I am gravitating towards maybe druid/stalker instead of barb/x to put an accent on the animal theme instead of fury. This will allow me to go barb/wizard for the most fuzzy of the chars - so far seems fun and will allow me to explore the unexplored side of wizard. Herald is herald, I can't help it. Then psion will probably get priest of wael multi, cuz wizard is taken by the barb. Let's see. Sure, I am tempted replay the game over and over, but I am a man of permanent time shortage. Totally different story party (with different classes and relationship development, etc. And I will be yet to see pure chanter and pure druid in action, which is doable with story companions) is an obvious idea, another would be to play, say, 3 man party, but highly synergistic, very dependant on each other for setups. By the way, I have an issue with late game builds, because I enjoy the voyage more than the destination - much better to get the core items early and observe steady growth and the strategy paying off more with each level than struggle 80% of the game to get some powerplay gimmicky statstick on which the whole thing revolves. Not that's not fun, much appreciated and fun intellectual endeavour to craft such builds, but not worth the investment for me. Anyway, when I will be find worthy of posting without Mod's supervision? Edit: Hah, just did exactly that, I am an obsidian adult now! Edit 2: Seriously tempted by the Warlock, indeed. And to build him around https://pillarsofeternity.fandom.com/wiki/Zandethus'_Dragon-Scaled_Grimoire - nice selection of self-centered (he he) spells for a dude that leaps in the middle of enemy ranks (unique Zandethus' Draconic Fury looks really good). Fire, as cliche as it is, is alright to try to follow as a general theme. I was leaning towards 2-handed style and maybe Willbreaker/Darryn, but with this fire focus I feel kind of bound to go Magran's favour. EDit 3: Obviously, I was not the first one to have this idea: Cheers mate!

  14. You might consider poison/blood mage, so that you'll have renewable resources for both classes. As for the helwalker/ancient, you'll want high PER and DEX to facilitate spell casting. You can keep STR and INT flat since you'll get the nice +10 from helwalker. You can dump RES if you want, but I'd personally keep it flat too. You might want to boost CON a bit too so that you're not one-shotted by crits. As for streetfighter, it is a rather fiddly class and is not my favorite to play. The easiest way to do streetfighter is to use the blunderbuss modal to get flanked. You might consider the streetfighter/priest of wael build that @thelee included in their excellent guide.
