made french onion dip. the thing is, as we collected ingredients, we discovered we only had half of a good yellow onion due to a bad spot as well as a bunch o' red onions. figured the taste o' the reduced onion slurry wouldn't be much different with red onion as opposed to yellow, but did have concerns regarding the eventual color o' the dip. we will not be using red onion in the future to substitute when making french onion dip. the onions took on a bilious shade o' purple as 'posed to dark golden brown. is nothing wrong with the taste, but am suspecting when the mixture cools and we add mayo, sour cream, garlic powder and white pepper to finish, the hue o' the dip will be... disconcerting. oh well. live and learn. edit: ok, we didn't expect that outcome. once we added sour cream, mayo, garlic powder and white pepper, the fugly purple-yellow disappeared almost complete. looks fine. tastes great. will be better tomorrow. Didn't see a France thread. Guess everyone's tired of seeing her burn every other year? Heh. Being able to do more reps with a given weight generally translates to a better 1RM, and it will build endurance you won't get by doing the typical 3-5 rep sets while aiming for the biggest possible bench. As for the suggestion of targeting 2x BW, sure... if competition is the goal. For reference, 2x BW bench puts one in the elite category of lifters which is like the top 5%. Non-insignificant risk of a pec tear, where heavy bench pressing is overrepresented as a cause, also casts doubt on whether that's a "wiser and better use" of one's time.3 points

My wife and I had an interesting week taking part in an Educators Workshop for the Marine Corp. They flew us down to San Diego for a week. On day 1, we stepped on the yellow footprints, got yelled at by a drill instructor, and then took part in a combat fitness test. We spent that day at the Marine Corp. Recruit Depot and got to observe a lot of training and speak to the Chief of Staff. On day 2 we went to Camp Pendleton and took part in Range training and a 12-stall obstacle course, which were basically team puzzles. You had to do things like evacuate a team member over terrain without touching the ground. It was like a souped up version of the floor is lava. My team did a lot of casualty laps, as we did not succeed. I was surprised they let us fire rifles. The recruits spend a week just learning how to hold the rifle. We got about 10 minutes of instruction and then we fired 10 rounds at 100 yard targets. I was pretty mediocre at it. My wife is a better shot. Day 2 also had us observe a group finishing the Crucible and receiving their Eagle, Globe and Anchor. They spend 58 hours out on the march and get pushed to their physical and mental limits on week 10 of boot camp, and this is the culmination of that. We got to eat with them afterwards at the Warriors breakfast and talk to the recruits. They were extremely wiped out, but everyone I talked to was proud of the accomplishment. That was a pretty powerful moment. Day 3 sent us to Miramar, where we got to see the Flight Line and talk to Marines on active duty. It was pretty crazy having the jets take off and land right next to us. My wife and I also had dinner with one of her former students at Stone Brewing in Liberty Station. The student is in the Navy and is stationed there, and it was great to catch up with her. She used to watch our little kids at sporting events in High School, and now she has her own son, so it was a very neat moment. On Day 4 we watched the Morning Colors and a graduation ceremony, and then flew home. It was a very unique experience and gave me a much better feel for the process of boot camp. There was a lot of emphasis placed on the educational opportunities available for Marines, and I was impressed by that. The leadership speakers like the Chief of Staff were very well spoken. They were all 30 years into the job and passionate. They were also surprisingly progressive in they way they answered our questions. There was an emphasis on the idea that the Marine Corp is not the same as it was 20 years ago. They focused on accountability a lot. A good example of this is when a teacher asked about transgender recruits. First, he said it isn't really an issue at the MCRD. It is an issue for old people, and the MCRD is filled with young people who are much more fluid in their thinking. They handle it simply. Your physical testing scores are based on biological sex, but you bunk with your identified gender. That was interesting to hear. We were surrounded by recruiters and a few drill instructors through the week and they were great. It was a very unique experience.2 points

Chests, not barrels. Barrels are single-use, chests last for the whole game. From what I've heard, there should be less surface effects than in D:OS, though, as you've said, meta is still recommended (getting everyone into stealth and on the higher ground before starting combat). I guess, there should be less obvious exploits in a year of active updates. Then again, they might be features, not exploits. Edit. The Dungeon of Naheulbeuk is free on EGS.2 points

Seems Ukrainian plans remain unchanged for now. Burns was told the idea is still to retake ground and threaten Crimea to force Russia into negotiations. I wonder what their plan is if the ground cannot be taken.1 point

Gromnir's three unbreakables: thou shalt not engage in time travel other than mundane, linear and unidirectional. thou shalt not make bargains with your soul as consideration. thou shalt not accept boons granted by magical entities or items. admitted, have only had the opportunity to apply one o' the aforementioned, but our resolve is firm insofar as all three. ordinarily we try and hold to the unbreakables even in games. HA! Good Fun!1 point

Fungal Amalgamation It is a being entirely comprised of the Infection, every phase it adds bug parts to itself to gain extra attacks from those bugs. Ants would add an acid attack, Beetles would add the rock throw, Bees or Dust Mites would have pollen or dust. Beating it would give the "Fungal Infusion" mutation, increasing defense of armors made from the bugs it uses to gain attacks. (Ant armor, Bee armor, added Beetle armor?)1 point

The LEGENDARY Scott Steiner math promo: My favorite part... I mean, I love everything about this promo, but keep an eye on Petey Williams' face. You can see the wheels inside his head spinning as he tries to follow Big Poppa Pump's math. The best part is that in a twisted, warped, fantasy land, the Steiner math actually adds up. The longer you listen to this promo, your chances of winning drastic go down.1 point

iirc there's no way to set the effect color with .gamedatabundles one solution might be to find some other appropriate effect to use instead? It should be easier to find other effects in Apotheosis now that there's a Popup menu for searching & selecting VisualEffects1 point

- have you just tried using berath's blessing to bump up your level? barring that, my usual route is (sorry i'm missing specific quest names because this is just off the top of my head) - everything on maje island, this gets me to level 5 by the time i arrive on queen's berth and do the ghost puppet show - nekataka: in periki, trigger the fassina gloves quest, arkemyr quest, the degno's satchel quest, get tekehu, enter all the stores to get map xp and trigger fast travel later make your way up to kahanga palace to trigger the next step in the main quest. make sure to talk to prince to get the gullet line of quest. then go to muhai's estate and get muhai. go to sacred stair. complete muhai, advance eder's quest (if using), pick up bounty quests and area quests for later go visit the vailian trading company to get some XP and cash. also: do the luca quest do the quest where you can end up with 4 iron cannons at the end pick up sanza's first exploration quest <-- this gives you boatloads of XP for casual exploration pick up valian bounty quest resolve the first part of the family pride questline (just the duel) resolve the first part of the oathbinder sanctum questline (just to get the mission to go to oathbinder sanctum) get konstanten loot some luminous adra crates from the mill go to brass citadel and talk to the haza nui, you get XP just for doing so. go ahead and talk to atsura to get that poko kohara quest, going downstairs gets you map XP anyway. also: next part of fassina's glove quest visit all the buildings, pick up ship bounty quest go back to periki resolve the fassina quest go to luminous bath house to do the next part of degnos <- if you plan on being aggressive in this quest, don't do this yet, the fight is brutal at this level (which should be ~6) go to the gullet resolve all quests that you can here that does not involve going into the old city (though you can do the first part to get access to old city) you can make the biha-needs-transport quest easier if you don't care about getting all the kids off, or if you trick the goldpact paladin to go downstairs first, so the fight to kill them all is easier. full violence shouldn't be too hard. there'll be some back-and-forth depending, such as going to kapanga palace or sacred stair depending on how you resolve the food shortage, and also to kapanga to get the cornett of waves if you are using pallegina, having gone to sacred stair means you can also do the next part of her companion quest line in gullet (the hole, and then delver's row) the luminous adra crates are used here in the undercroft to resolve a quest, if you take this route for the food shortage leave nekataka - go to the island where you can recruit a xaurip, clear the island (gets you XP for sanza's quest, plus misc bestiary xp) - go to the island with the cannibals near maje island, clear it (gets you XP for sanza's quest, plus misc bestiary xp) - do any easy ship bounties or the early fighting bounties (porokoa and meryl are easy at this stage) - back to nekataka cash in any completed bounties, cash in sanza's - to fort deadlight resolve the benweth quest, advance serafen's (if using). <- might be too early if you plan on taking a violent approach to benweth - to dunnage resolve the drunken pirate quest, get all the bounty quests (incl the firebrand crew or whatever) talk to the principi head post-benweth to advance the questline resolve the play quest <- if you're somehow not level 8 yet, this will be too hard at this stage because of the ambush there might be other minor quests in dunnage that i'm forgetting about. do them - back to fort deadlight (you should've gotten contacted by the other princip leader, aeryn or whatever) you don't get experience for going back, but you get cash for divulging secrets At this point you should be level 8-9 and you didn't do anything particularly hard (unless you tried to duke it out with Degnos's related ambush which IMO is unfairly hard). Depending how I feel, I'd tackle Old City, Oathbinder Sanctum, the "Skipping Ahead" quest, maybe do more island exploration for Sanza for more XP, and then when Family Pride is no longer skulled, I'll tackle that. Eventually the Hanging Sepulchers for both the principi and berathian priest questlines. Eventually Arkemyr's infiltration and then pick up Fassina. Poko Kohara pops onto my todo list around level 10-11, which is also a good time for the next batch of sanza quests1 point

Really struggling to find a reason to play this game on anything above story, or without ToyBox murderhobo mode on. Random spiders with 45 AC and 20-50% undispellable concealment? Incorporeal minotaurs whose only weak spot is a +15 fort save but it doesn't really matter because they are undead so immune to 99% of effects that call a fort save anyway? 300hp "outsiders" that you can't dismiss and heal back to full after going down (effectively doubling their HP)? None of this is really hard -- I can spam hellfire rays with Ember or heightened disintegrate with KC to deal with the minotaurs for example, but I'd have to rest frequently, which is penalized by the corruption nonsense, which in turn forces me to go back to Drezen or buy sanctuaries in nearby forts... etc. It's a slog and much like the whole HoMM-lite mode, feels like it's fundamentally intended to waste my time. It's funny because boss fights are generally fun. It's some of the regular dungeon trash that I'm finding almost unsurmountably boring to get through. But in spite of the excessive timesink design, the game is fantastic and I'm loving it. Top notch soundtrack too. Just wish they didn't balance it for the solo unfair youtuber crowd or something.0 points
