I'm pretty sure someone somewhere has made a better relationship between the two, maybe something fancy like an ODE.

1/2x+ 7 = Y

Y= 2/3x

1/2x +7 = 2/3x

3/4x + 10.5 = x

1/4 x = 10.5

x= 42; Y = 28

Checks out.

Anyone else feel like a stick insect who has just had the life and works of Albert Einstein explained to him?

Yip :yes:

I was honestly a little shocked that I could still do this kind of thing.  The last math class I took was sometime around 2000.

I went about it slightly differently than Amentep did.  There's a post-it in my office with something like this written on it:

2x/3 = x/2 +7

2x/3 - x/2 = 7

4x/6 - 3x/6 = 7

4x - 3x = 42

x = 42

Today, I'm working from home, so that I can be here to take delivery of the appliances for our new kitchen.  The countertops will also arrive and be installed later today.  (The appliances will be installed some other day, when the plumber comes to do the final hook-ups.)

Still being warm here, but at least not quite as nastily hot as it was. Gran might be out of hospital in a day or two, and the back and forth of mom having a hospital appointment this afternoon to deal with.

Edit: Heh, and just found out about Nukemap3d.  A historian specialising in nuclear weapons has created a 3d simulator that uses googlemaps to let you choose a location, pick a size/type of nuclear weapon.. and show what it would look like.

I'm completely unskilled at math, but I'm very good at not sleeping and having nothing to show for it other than bleary, bloodshot eyes and the knowledge that there are exactly 11 white spackled spots on the far wall of this room.

I think today I should plan/prepare for some house painting. The dark purple bathroom really needs to go.... I much prefer boring ol' beige or something.

Our methods are logically equivalent.

[(4/6x - 3/6x) = (24/24x - 18/24x) = (1x - 3/4x) = (1/4x)] = [7*6 = 42 = 10.5*4]

I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man

Our small bathroom is horribly laid out, just like our kitchen. Makes it difficult to consider how to give it a facelift. This whole house is bizarre.

Still feeling "blah" ... watching hubby play one of his other chrs. in BL2, because I can't be arsed to play with him today. :) He found 2 Legendary assault rifles just now ... two. Crazy random luck.

Today I worked on actual work stuff for about an hour. But I found it terribly difficult to concentrate. Thankfully this project is still in the planning stage so there is plenty of time. Usually I'm pretty productive during the day. I hold myself to a regular work day schedule for the most part even though I work from home when I'm not on the road. Today I found myself staring out the window so I just went out and trimmed the trees and cut the grass. Then I piled up the cuttings and had a fire and cooked hot dogs for me and the pup over it. A much better use of my time for sure!

Woke up from one of those "falling dreams" and my back is tensed and locked solid. Sloowly stretching out over the morning trying to get rid of that.

Haha, yeah - it's funny when you get so hooked on a game and catch yourself doing things from it irl.. Once in a while my mind does a kind hit F5 and quicksave before doing some something dangerous/daring. :)

I would KILL to have a quicksave key for real life! Imagine how useful that would be is you could simply reload after hurting/making a jackass of yourself!

I have the day off, and intend to relax, play videogames, and see if the GF wants to go out when she gets home.

From what to what?

I'm currently on track to receive a BA in economics by 2016(sooner if I quit my current 30+ hour a week job), but I'm not sure that a career as an analyst or in business is something I want.

I'm certain we would see a large decrease in accidental pregnancies.

Is funny when mushroom management affects management itself, but at least it makes this hideous project at work bearable. A little.

Dumbbell flies 54kg drop sets 10 reps 4 sets, seated military shoulder presses 74kg 8-6 reps 4 sets, dumbbell bench press 105kg 8-6 reps 4 stints.

Man, I really cant wait for winter because weight lifting on hot humid summer days is painful, during the cold winter time I can exercise like a beast. Unfortunately according to the weather forecast we can expect temperatures breaking the 40 Celsius mark here. Damn.   :getlost:

Repetitions? Amount of times you do the movement I assume.

If I ever were to do any of that I'd probably break something. I can still work like crazy in the woods or chop wood, lift engine blocks and such. But if I ever were to try and activate one movement like that, I'd tear that muscle probably. :S

Impressive stuff you do. Do you intend to give Arnie a run for his money or something? =D

What does "8-6 reps" mean? I get the weight and I get the sets but I cant puzzle out the reps.

how many repetitions of the exercise you do within any specific set.

"I did 3 sets of 10 reps at x weight" = I did the exercise 10 times, paused, did it another 10 times, paused, then a final 10 times.
