RANDOM VIDEA GAME NEWS!

Hmm, I would have a couple of remarks to Wasteland 2 as it was shown.

1) Dialog options are not that great IMO... seems like simple keywords, but no paraphrasing or real sentences... I think that it's a bit "too" old school...

2) Cones of vision - what about listen checks and ears? I'd guess there should be some general detection on that part, but I guess they might improve upon vision cones (actual vision having longer range while other areas lower detection range and attributed to listening

Other than the above I see no real turn offs. Maybe the graphics could be a bit improved, but it still looks fine enough. The thing that worries me, is that with the way the dialog is handled it might be worse than I anticipated. I surely hope it will also get some good press after it launches and will get some decent sales figures, but at the moment the "keywords" dialog is a turn off for me and I think it might be viewed as a really weak point in a classic cRPG - think of IE games and Fallout games and imagine if Fallout had simple Keywords instead of actual dialog choices...

Looks good, like the atmosphere, the small bit of humor I saw, the party interactions with things. Some of the text/dialogue reads kinda poorly, to me, but overall I like having all that text there to give you more info/flavor if you want it.

Looking solid but some issues. Perception cones for enemies is a lame concept. No way should the player have access to that kind of literal information.   Key word dialogue has always been lame. No different here. It makes the PC look like a loser. Good stuff is the combat looks fun, the UI is serviceable even if not pretty. The description texts are cool and 9so far) look plentiful. And, the final metal 'spider' looks sweet and I WANT TO KILL IT!

Demo = 7.5/10 Glad I'm getting the game through PE.

Wasteland 2 Footage!

Awesome, very happy so far. For me the success of Wasteland 2 is the litmus test for all these upcoming, classic, turn-based RPG that I am supporting. I want it to succeed as that will prove that certain games can be developed without Publishers.

Damn, all the little things, the descriptions of the surroundings and being able to type in keywords to the art design feels "right" in this game. I even liked the sentry droid that of some reason has voice modulator just to say "roar!"

I sincerely regret that I didn't pledge when the W2 Kickstarter was running. This whole kickstarter thing didn't really grab my attention back then.

But I'm gonna gladly fork out good money at release 'cause this really looks like "rebirth of old-skool" done right.

I also missed the Wasteland 2 KS, but I am on a fence here... On a one hand it has a lot of features that I'd love to see, but the dialog in the current form is a huge turn off for me... If they would go with the dialog system similar to NWN2: SoZ it would be a must buy (so actual dialog trees, but special dialog options from different party members based on their attributes/skills), For me a dialog is a huge part of a good RPG and I cannot see Key words building a real RP experience... it feels worse than paraphrasing.

I am in same boat, I didn't pledge back then because I didn't really understand or appreciate the potential of KS :)

Wasteland 2 was the second project I backed, the first was Double Fine Adventure, but I had bought music from an album that was funded by a 2010 KickStarter campaign in 2011.

Keyword dialogue, obviously it's no where near as good, and without audio dialogue I was expecting a full dialogue system, but I would like to hear InXile's explanation for why they chose it, if it was that they don't have enough writers and they think its more in line with the spirit of Wasteland I would be fine with that, I never played Wasteland.

Autoleveling things like lockpicking is a bad idea. I don't want to go around searching for every lock pick easy or medium to level up. Selecting skills can be gamed, but at least it gives you the option to sensibly role play gaining experience in a skill instead of power gaming by entering the same room 3 different ways or jumping around for hours to level acrobatics.

Valid questions, why don't you post them on the official Wasteland 2 forums and then report back to us? I am interested in the response

Did you pledge enough to Project Eternity to get the Wasteland 2 key?  I also wasn't sure about Kickstarter until after the Wasteland 2 drive was over, so I'm glad that it was offered through PE.

I don't think so, how much did you need pledge?

I think it was available at $165 and up.  I guess that might be a bit pricey for a Wasteland 2 key :p

Okay thx, then I would I missed it as I pledged  $100

"I really think PC gaming should be the focus, okay? I mean, what’s the future of PC gaming? Is it going to be on these specialised boxes, or is it going to go into a more standard PC model? If the prices on PCs come down further, these boxes might be squeezed out."

What is this, someone from Microsoft talking sense? Oh wait, my mistake. Ex-Microsoft.
