It always bugged me that the sense of urgency of some quests was conveyed exclusively through dialogue but you could put off actually doing them forever. It's all about implementation, though... Shepard could have destroyed the Reapers during the Arrival DLC if he had just waited until after the Reapers arrived before destroying the Mass Relay, the explosion would destroyed the Reapers. It means other people makes the calls when and if information gets released. EA/Bioware and Bethesda are both close cousins to their publishing branches and is in a position where they can create their own hype. I don't hate Bioware games.
