Monte Carlo Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Am going to try out the free trial of Age of Conan to see what it's like.
Walsingham Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 A bit of Master of Orion 2. Experimenting with custom races that doesn't make sense from a "power gaming" perspective, yet not necessarily gimped either. Just trying fun combos. Cybernetic, sub terranean, less food producing Gorthaurians for the win When not playing that, I'm busy ridding the world of barbarians, purging them with Greek Fire as the Byzantine Empire in EUIII. National ideas focussing on religious intolerance and military elitism. Love Masters of Orion 2. Fav pick has to be subterranean. More people per planet means huge efficiency savings in terms of buildings and defence. Second fav is unification government. Unification may be creepy, but you get spying defence bonuses, food AND production bonuses by percentage, and you thereby if you match it with relevant buffs in those areas the game becomes relatively easy. Fav negatives have to be uncreative, because it just saves me having to think about what to research (you get them randomly) and slow breeding. Slow breeding can be a pain, but it's simple enough to counter once you get your production up and can tell your subjects to 'make love for war'. Least favourite positive has to be cybernetic. In the early game you just can't afford to lose so much production. "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. Hurlshort Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Am going to try out the free trial of Age of Conan to see what it's like. Cool, I thought they did a great job of recreating the Conan world. The beginner island is fantastic, it is as solid as any single player RPG I've played. Unfortunately I felt the game fell apart after level 20, bu ti played it at release, so maybe they've tightened it up.
Tale Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 (edited) My bank account had more than I thought it would, so I purchased Crysis 2. Definitely enjoying it. So far I liked Warhead better. There's not as much opportunity for screwing with them and doing hit and run. The shooting is more straight forward. Maybe that mixes up a bit better later. Morgoth Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Played some more Crysis 2. The plot is really bollocks but I really love how battles unfold and how you have to deal with it. That is, with hard difficulty, anything less makes it probably a cakewalk. Rain makes everything better.
Labadal Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Lara Croft & The Guardian of Light. Excellent co-op game and one of the best DD only games I have played. Extremely polished and solid production values.
Tale Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Just finished Crysis 2. 10.9 hours on normal. It leaves me with a question. Did they merge or did Prophet take over? I wonder when we'll find out the answer to that. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Malcador Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Fiddled with EVE, now I have zero bottlenecks in my Coolant production. Wonderful, now all factories have enough materials to work 24/7 and there's even some excess for the raw stuff so that gives me leeway (long trips for some of it). Finished off DOW 2 Retribution, the SM campaign was kinda cool - not much tactics needed, just assault the crap out of everything on Normal difficulty at least. Why has elegance found so little following? Elegance has the disadvantage that hard work is needed to achieve it and a good education to appreciate it. - Edsger Wybe Dijkstra

Tale Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 You have the wackiest rounding skills I have ever seen. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Slowtrain Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 You have the wackiest rounding skills I have ever seen. How did you like the game compared to Crysis the FIrst? I enjoyed the first one but am concerned that the changes may make the second game very different, rendering my previous enjoyable experience with Crysis 1 moot. Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.
Tale Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I don't remember Crysis 1 all that well. I do remember it being too much like Farcry, which I thought was a terrible game. Stealth is actually useful now, which is great. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."

Stealth is actually useful now, which is great. lol. I thought Farcry, thought it had problems, was overall one of the better shooters I've played. We may have reached some sort of fundamental impasse on what makes a good shooter. Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. Calax Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Did they at least get rid of the vehicles made out of spit, duct tape and prayer? Victor of the 5 year fan fic competition! Kevin Butler will awesome your face off.
Tale Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I never had a vehicle I was in explode on me on normal difficulty. But one did start smoking. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Deraldin Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 (edited) I never had a vehicle I was in explode on me on normal difficulty. But one did start smoking. I've been playing on Veteran and have had one vehicle explode on me. It was an APC that was fired on by another APC using the turret mounted rockets. Nothing else has managed to deal enough damage to a vehicle I've used to even make it smoke. Small arms fire seems weaker than I remember it being, but that might just be because I've used fewer light vehicles. Humvees can be taken down with a single grenade. Just for comparison, I'm on level 14 of 19 goddamn pinger boss fight! and the game clock is telling me that I've been playing for just over 6 hours. I haven't exactly stopped to explore any of the levels. I only have 3 souvenirs, 1 dog tag, 1 vehicle key and 1 e-mail conversation. Edited March 28, 2011 by Deraldin
Blodhemn Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Playin NWN2 after starting it up and abandoning it for a while. Question: is there a mod for a better Journal system? The one in the game stinks.
Pidesco Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I played a bit of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light with my girlfriend over the weekend. Loads of fun. Every time one of those big exploding bastards got near her, she pressed the thumbstick ina reflex sending us automatically into the menu. Pretty funny. I have to get her to play Amnesia. Tale Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 (edited) One thing I really like about Crysis 2 is the posthuman element. Post/transhumanism seems like a terrific concept to pursue for science fiction action games. I think Deus Ex and Crysis 2 are the only games I can recall that actually go over the transition of humanity (or elements thereof) into something greater. Other games, such Halo, do feature transhumanism. But unlike Deus Ex and Crysis 2, it doesn't concern itself with the transition, which is the element I find most fascinating. It's becoming a Sci-Fi fetish of mine. Edited March 28, 2011 by Tale "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
RPGmasterBoo Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Soulstorm - for quite a while now. Nothing else. Imperium Thought for the Day: Even a man who has nothing can still offer his life
Toast Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Playing Alpha Protocol now. And there are a couple of games I've started that are in various states of unfinishedness, like Gothic 3, NWN 2, KOTOR 1 and 2. Plus, I've got a number of games that I haven't even started yet, and then there are the games that I want to get, but really can't justify buying with the huge "gaming backlog" I have now. At this rate, I might get around to Fallout: NV in about 4 or 5 years or so. Hmm.
Gorgon Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Shogun total war 2. It's very pretty. I do wish that after 4 or 5 games they would have figured out how to keep archers and gunners from turning to face the enemy every time you select a new target. Effectively you can't do that unless it's directly in front of them. Having them break your carefully built formation and run all over the place is usually disastrous, they will be gobbled up by cavalry. The artillery camera shake effect introduced with Napoleon is a real pain. It makes the cannons look like ships at sea in a violent storm and makes your mouse cursor ramble all over the place. Who the hell thought this was a good idea ? Did I mention it's really pretty though, the strategic elements are fun and challenging too. Na na na na na na ... greg358 from Darksouls 3 PVP is a CHEATER. That is all.
