I don't think Fallout 3, or heck, even New Vegas are that much darker than, say, Dragon Age, or Baldur's Gate II.

Seriously? I dunno it just feels different, even at it's darkest Ferelden is about as dark as a Ren Fair in Wisconsin.

I nominate this as the awesome comment of the day.

Something weird is going on here. I started a new character "Conan" :) intending to play melee carnage. At level 3 I killed the entire powder gangers base without breaking a sweat, with Chance's knife.

At normal difficulty. With 1 stimpack.

This is insane.

It must be the 9 endurance.

Heh, I thought about starting to recreate the original pipboy. Guess I don't have to do it anymore.

Though, I still have somewhere the model files of my other pipboy. Never finished it up, because getting a model into the Fallout 3 / Oblivion engine is a pain in the arse. Never got it to work 100% correct.

Boo did you go in with NCR? I found that with them they're strong enough by themselves, alone it's pretty brutal to jump into their dormitory buildings. But then I have 4END.

No, this character is supposed to end up in the Legion, but I'm still on the beginning and its too early to kill NCR. :)

Melee is definitely OP when you have STR 9 AGIL 9 and END 9, random light armor and Chance's knife.

Veteran Rangers wear it, they spawn around a couple of NCR forts when you're of a high enough lvl. or you can wait for the mission to watch over the president at the Dam, these guys will be escorting him.

So testing exp. lowering mods I snuck over to Novac at lvl2 on very hard, that was fun. But when I got there I decided to try and kill Boone. Heard he might have a letter on his corpse. What I found interesting was that I only got one critical hit on the guy but HE only got one on me. So it was very very close thing, but I killed him with about 10-12 bullets. I was expecting to die? Now I'm interested if I reload and hire him, if he'll waste everything like usual even tho I have him at lvl 2, which would mean it's only the player character that he sucks at hitting.

I had the varmit rifle (at low repair), a 6DT leather armor, a red baseball hat...that's it.

p.s. almost forgot...no letter on him. If he gets one it must be after you've gained history, or not at all...

It wasn't easy/felt terrible, lol. But I'm also fickle, and anything goes when it comes to testing stuff.

It's also the Normal difficulty. :p

But yeah...early game the extra hp's help a lot. And the high str.

I'm double-posting again!

...so far setting iXPBase (what a lvl1 chr. starts out needing to reach lvl2) at 250-300 and the iXPBumpBase (the multiplier?) between 180 & 200 seems to be making a decent difference w/out forcing you to be level 1 forever....much better. Editors are fun.

What I did was I edited one of the Traits.

- Add new perk entry

- Entry point: Adjust Experience Points

- Function: Multiply Value = 0.50

Just make sure you pick that trait and you'll get the adjusted XP from everything.

Should work like a charm, unless you of course are looking for more sophisticated adjustment.

Finally finished the game on hc mode naturally. And what a sweet game it was. Few crash bugs (apparently it was hdd ******** around that caused it. stupid eventid 11 errors...), few graphical glitches, your normal gamebryo bugs and few nastiers quest/companion related quests. BoS chain bugged for me and Arcade won't join me after I sent him away for a little while

Will have to reload an earlier save and finish game with other factions as well, and maybe explore those few remaining places :o

I am loving the mood of this game. While I did enjoy FO3, this game feels like the real sequel to FO2. Still only a fdw hours in, but I am really digging it.

I am playing a "jack of all trades, master of none" character, keeping all skills at the same level. I am mixing explosives with guns in combat. I still haven't used melee or unarmed yet. It is also nice that I can use skills for dialog, sneak, barter, explosives, repair and science options have popped up.

I don't think finishing the game is entirely neseccary to give an informed opinion. I'm not talking about folks here. We often give initial impressions, so that's par for the course, but even a professional journalist could give a substantial review without finishing the game. However, that impression should be backed by a significant amount of gameplay. New Vegas is so huge that a player could certainly recommend the game before completion and I bet that there is a substantial number of player who play well over 40 hours, are thrilled with the pruchase, but who nonetheless never complete the game. The downside of reviewing the game before the end is that you can't always provide informed commentary on plot twists or factions. For example, I liked the idea of the Legion quite a bit. I was looking forward to it, but by the end of the game I felt that the effort fell somewhat short. I still enjoyed the Legion, though.

I enjoyed DAO quite a bit, but I've enjoyed New Vegas quite a bit more. I think the backstory in both is quite dark, but the unfolding story is much darker in New Vegas.

Fallout 2 has long been my favorite game in the series, but I honestly think New Vegas actually takes the top for me now. I'd have to see what I think after a year or so though. :Cant's wry grin icon:

Finally able to play the game and I have to say thank you to all of you that made my silver tongued NINJA-COWBOY build possible :ermm:.

All and all I can finally see the continuation of the Fallout world I truly hope this game is but a climpse of what is to come.

Ps.: Any chance that PC is from Arroyo? or better yet will we see the western part of the NCR in the future?

Thanks again for the game.
