WorstUsernameEver Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 I would really like to see obsidian take a crack at an elder scrolls game after seeing them knock new vegas out of the park. It would be really cool to see them alternating fallout and elder scrolls spinoff games while making enough money to also produce an original obsidian-owned IP every couple of years as well. I'm.. not sure why. Obsidian getting a knack at Fallout, being founded by Black Isle veterans and having a lot of people that worked on Van Buren and even Fallout 1 made sense, but Obsidian working on Elder Scrolls? Nah.
Tale Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 I love ED-E's music. You basically end up with a fight theme. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
LadyCrimson Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 I haven't found EDE to be all that "weak" yet either, like I keep reading about. Course I also have Boone, but I mean EDE has been 'toe to toe' many times, shooting that little laser as a baddie tries to wail on him, and hasn't dropped once. ...seems like there were other unrelated things re:game things I noticed that I was going to comment on but by the time I get here/read everyone else's replies I always forget what they were... “Things are as they are. Nah. i think they would be able to add a lot to that series (which has been getting stale imo), particularly by spicing up the challenge and combat. Killing is kind of like playin' a basketball game. I am there. and the other player is there. and it's just the two of us. and I put the other player's body in my van. and I am the winner. - Nice Pete.

Deraldin Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 Another thing I'm finding disconcerting about him is that far-sight perk. I'm undecided whether I like being able to see red lines sooooo long before I can see them. I got killed last night because of that. "Ooo, more red bars, let's go kill the-DEATHCLAWS! AUGH!" I love ED-E's music. You basically end up with a fight theme. I pick fights with people just so ED-E will start his little musical cues.

But I mean at least EDE's tough enough to serve as a distraction while Boone & I are lining up our shots. :D “Things are as they are. HoonDing Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 (edited) Does Boone have the Sniper, Better Criticals & Commando perks or something? Compared to him, Cass doesn't kick so much ass with a rifle, even with This Machine more often than not she needs quite a few shots to kill things. I'm also suspecting Cass has the Cowboy/Gunslinger perk, since with a Hunting revolver or .44 magnum she seems to be way more effective. LadyCrimson Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 (edited) I'm not sure. I've been trying to find the NPC info in GECK but I haven't located it yet. The best I know of Boone is that he does have very high crit. chance, even without his hat. From wiki they supposedly both have 10/10/10 in STR/PE/AG, but Boone has 2 more Luck. LadyCrimson Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 (edited) Ok I found some of the companion NPC info. The stats I've seen for them are correct. But I can't find what perks (if any) they're granted. Their skills seem to be under named class categories and the window for those don't show anything but the base SPECIAL stats and order of TAG skills. If they have personal 'perks' (besides their special ones) I can't find them. Tag skill order (I don't know if this matters...) for Boone is Guns, Sneak, Melee Weapons, and Cass is Melee, Guns, Sneak. Boone is class "SuperSniper" and Cass is "CassClass" Under Confidence, Boone is "Foolhardy" and Cass is "Brave." ...there's gotta be perk info in this thing somewhere... *mumbles* Edit:found it but it doesn't say anything either. Oh well. But according to what I can tell, your Luck number is actually your critical chance number. I don't know if this means actual = percentage chance, but if your Luck is 4, your Critical Chance is also 4. (maybe you guys knew that already, I'm new to all this still). ED-E has Luck/Crit. 9. Thorton_AP Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 (edited) How the heck do you play for money with Caravan? No one ever matches any of my bets and I play for free. EDIT: Sounds like it could be a bug with the PC version. No NPC starts things off with any bets. Edited November 3, 2010 by Thorton_AP

Kaftan Barlast Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 It was a bug, but it was fixed with the patches. Does anyone know a caravan player whop is filthy rich by any chance? WorstUsernameEver Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 The gal at the Mojave Outpost and Ambassador Crocker play for lots of money. They really made me rich.
HoonDing Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 (edited) I bought one chip in each casino, played blackjack for 5 minutes, then used my newly garnered 1,000 chips on the slots and after two minutes I got either 3 grapes or 3 oranges. mkreku Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Well, economy isn't Fallout: New Vegas strongest side. It's way too easy to get rich, without even trying. I've been roaming the wasteland for like 95% of my playing time, just exploring, shooting enemies and occasionally selling off excess stuff to the wandering merchants that are everywhere. After buying every attribute my body could take, I am still 30,000 caps in the green. And this is without trying! In hardcore, they should have completely removed Stimpaks (outside of merchants, at least), raised prices by something like 500% and made radiation more lethal. I remember playing some stupid RPG on my friends Amiga back in the day. In that game everyone you met was poor and they would whine about it too. "I work this field for 5 copper coins per year". Meanwhile, as the hero, I was carrying around tens of thousands of gold coins, with each gold coin being worth 100 copper coins. If only I had been able to give those poor farmers one gold coin each, I wouldn't have had to read their whining, but nooo, no such option. I'm kind of getting the same vibe from New Vegas. Tigranes Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 The gal at the Mojave Outpost You mean the bargirl? She only had a grand and I got it off her in two games. Currently I'm just using a deck of black cards only + all colour J/Q/K, and really it's just way too easy to use the more frequent jqks to destroy any pile they build while gradually racking mine up. I don't know if the difficulty increases when you play better people but right now it's way too easy because the opponent never seems to sabotage your pile in those ways. I've playedd, probably not yet 10 hours, got to Primm, Nipton & Outpost and surrounding areas. Still, I agree with mkreku that it's way too easy to get rich already - in fact the economy is pretty much identical to FO3, where there's so much things you're constantly struggling to stay under the weight limit if you have low/mid strengths. That's disappointing - hardcore mode should also have, say, had a 25% reduction on all ammo you find. I don't mind stimpacks so much since I'm really really horrible with FO3/FNV combat. It's ridiculously crap/boring as well, though NV seems to have fixed FO3's worst faults (invincible VATS). All the complaints about Alpha Protocol is a joke - at least there, if you get it, the combat works, here it's more like Arcanum combat where you just switch between modes to exploit the advantages of each. That said, the game is very very fun and very good. Dialogue isn't amazing so far but it has its moments, and in places like Nipton there are story moments that really work quite well. Will have to wait and see if the Legion are too Romany or not. But in stark difference to FO3, and a lot more like FO1, each settlement & town makes sense in its own way. I just wish it had gone outside its comfort zone a bit on things like the economy above, but then as a spinoff game you can't expect too much reinventing the wheel. mkreku Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 It's been a long time since any game surprised me and made me laugh out loud, but I entered a place last night, with ED-E towing along as usual, and the robots I met in that place were going, "I can get rid of that robot problem for you", like as if ED-E was an annoying pest I couldn't get rid of. I loved that. When I was exploring Black Mountain and 8-10 Super Mutant Masters spawned behind me, and ED-E constantly decided to take them all on by itself , I would have taken them up on the offer. Being a troll has also left me rather impopular with most everyone in the wasteland so I buy at 200% and sell at 10%, which means Im dirt poor, I cant even afford to repair my guns and armor DISCLAIMER: Do not take what I write seriously unless it is clearly and in no uncertain terms, declared by me to be meant in a serious and non-humoristic manner. HoonDing Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 It's not like you need any money, anyway, unless you want to buy the awesome Anti-Materiel Rifle (although a regular Sniper rifle + Psycho one-shots everything outside of the Legendary deathclaw) and get all implants. There's powerful weapons & armour all over the place, and even easier to find than in FO3. Only stuff I bought was some harder to find ammo for my companions. The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.
Kaftan Barlast Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Speaking of ammo, why is 40-70 so damn hard to come by? And I cant make it either because you cant find casings for it. mkreku Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 In my game it's the 12.7mm ammo (which is actually .50 ammo with a different name) that's scarce. That sucks because I love that pistol. Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
