The battle system on console needed to be redone for a sequel. It was playable, but not the best I have seen. Despite that I had a great time with the game.

Just keep in mind that by 'catgirls' he meant 'furries'. Now, if that's your thing, great for you. Most of us avoid internet arguments for exactly that reason.

"If the system was indeed perfect as you say"

Who is this 'you' you are speaking of as it surely isn't me since I said no such thing. Don't put words into my post.

"And if Bioware feel indeed the need to change the combat system to come "in the way of the audience" (Laidlaw's words in a famous interview) it seems to me that those change were needed to adjust the game to the consolle (even the first DA2's preview in Game Informer imply such things talking about focus group feedback's and such). "

DA got high ratings on console including combat.

The fact they made chanegs for DA2 means very little since they changed ME2 rom ME1 despite ME being successful. BIO probably changes thinsg up so they can hear less whining about 'making the same game repeatedly' (heh like that will happen) and instyead get told they're 'dumbing things down.

Then again, BG1 was probably BIO's most dumbed down game other than KOTOR which is dumbed down personified.

"focus group feedback's and such"

Focus groups are funny. They're no more reliable to be trustworthy than internet geeks like us.

It's funny how people are saying how horrible DA is now considering the success it had including the mega praise it got everywhere including here with only the Codex bashing it but that's par for the course. Including the combat.

And, of course, BIO is gonna say the combat is improved. That's how they pimp it. They alreayd got our $ for DA1 now they need our $ for DA2 so no way are they gonna say yeah DAQ1 is betetr than DA2. No way no how.

They're gonna tell you that DA2 does everything better than DA1 because that's how they will push it. Afterall, if BIO says DA is better than DA2 why would anyone wnat to buy DA2 when they can just playu DA1? Does not compute.

Nah, it's not possible that I legitimately didn't enjoy DA. I'm simply bashing it to make BioWare look bad, because Volourn said so!

I remember many review that stated that the combat system in the consolle version was inferior and not developed as well as the PC version. I remember many complaints on Bio board too about that. I never played it on the consolle so I can't really say, but knowing that it was without iso view I really do not understand how it could play out (not that my position matters much, just to say).

I played with both, and I can safely say that the console versions' combat controls were inferior. I think the Eurogamer reviews are pretty spot-on. I won't say they were 'bad', though, in fact it was a fairly solid implementation and I doubt it could have been done much better without cutting down on the amount of abilities and other options, but still clearly inferior to the PC one.

Eeeehh.. I hope all that darkspawn turning into bloody mess and the ogre dying with some strange blue light show is just that dwarf exaggerating.

Also looks like the health bar will actually be visible in the console versions this time around. And that's from the PS3 version, so it might not be the borderline-playable frame skipping afterthought it was the last time.

That said, the 'press x to swing sword' looks just as unpleasant as I was afraid it would. Hopefully my Mini won't choke on the game...

If needed, just drop the gfx settings until the name of the game turns into Conan the Pixel Murders Gaiderland and looks like this:

Alright i admit i haven't been keeping up with DA2 and perhaps this has been asked and answered so I apologize....but after watching that video one thing kept on nagging me....why does it seem to be a third person hack and slash game?

Not that i dislike hack and slash games, i do enjoy them. But if I want Dynasty Warriors i will buy dynasty warriors.

Not that I am writing off DA2, it might end up being great, but i did enjoy the combat from the first game.

It appears that the pronouncements of it being Dragon Effect were wildly exaggerated.

Dragon Gauntlet would be a more apt tag.

Damn that's freaky looking stare. Reminds me of late 90's 3d poser model amatour animations.

Combat is now close to something like in God of War series so Bioware better prepare to take the heat if combat ain't as good in that game... or looking as good.

Let's play Alpha Protocol

wow, i've been preparing myself to enjoy this game, but the videos I keep seeing make it look just awful. I think I'm going to bury my head in the sand on this one and wait for the reviews to come out before I consider getting it.

maybe they are going to make mass effect 3 into a 4x game just to really mess with people's heads.

Or Dragon Siege for that matter. I thought that i saw grimdark version of DS3 for a moment. I would love to try some Dragon Gaiden though, that would be interesting. But ditch the mage-class then, just have warrior or rogue for some true barbarian carnage.

Sorry, I must apolgize. You never said such a thing. You only said that the game was received very well critically on both platforms. Wich is mostly true off course. But even in the most enthusiastic revievws (and I read a lot of them) there were a lot of mention on the disparity between PC and Consolle version for the combat part.

The fact they made chanegs for DA2 means very little since they changed ME2 rom ME1 despite ME being successful. BIO probably changes thinsg up so they can hear less whining about 'making the same game repeatedly' (heh like that will happen) and instyead get told they're 'dumbing things down.

Well, everyone is entitled to his opinions. I believe that if Bioware is changing combat so much is because they have received some negative feedback about it, were not pleased by its reception or simply do not like how it played out from a design point of view. Same for ME2. I don't think that it's because they listen to fan rants, otherwise they would still be a "PC/D&D centric" developer :ermm: .

Focus groups are funny. They're no more reliable to be trustworthy than internet geeks like us.

Right or wrong, they fell that they are important to reach people who are not internet geeks and that normaly would not not express their opinion in forums.

It's funny how people are saying how horrible DA is now considering the success it had including the mega praise it got everywhere including here with only the Codex bashing it but that's par for the course. Including the combat.

I do agree. DA:O was mostly a very good game and deserved its success. But personally, I was not in love with DA:O's combat even if I enjoyed the game very much in general. I was not expecting them to go action and I would have prefereed something else, but who am I to discuss the design of their game? I will play it and make my mind about it.

And, of course, BIO is gonna say the combat is improved. That's how they pimp it. They alreayd got our $ for DA1 now they need our $ for DA2 so no way are they gonna say yeah DAQ1 is betetr than DA2. No way no how.

Off, course (even if in Bioware forums they are more moderate about those changes, maybe just to avoid displeasing the old fans). But (imho) it's interesting to speculate on the reason why they have changed DA:O's formula so much. You know, while the VO change is obvious (again, like it or not) it's difficult to understand why they have changed the combat system so much if not taking consolle in consideration (imho, off course).
