I had the exact same idea, but it was impossible for gameplay reasons at least not in the Fallout universe.

Frankly my vision of a post apocalyptic RPG is like a marriage of sandbox gameplay and Fallout 1/2 gameplay. There would be settled areas: cities, villages, nomads etc, but between them would be an essentially featureless desert, (and other types of terrains, such as ruined highways, hills, mountains etc) with the occasional new location and critters. The PC would travel to and fro in a dune buggy/truck/motorcycle/whatever, using only a paper map for guidance (a la gothic), with only a rickety radio to listen to (mp3 importing included), to get occasional updates and so on. Also caravans along established routes would be programmed, suitable for raiding, escorting or trade (a la Elite). the key mode of transportation would be driving and thus the scale of the game would have to be huge.

Basically Elite in the wasteland, to which a quest structure would also be added, an eventual party of characters (permanent or mercs) and an interesting storyline. Perhaps to make it more easier on the programmers the cities would be areas that would be loaded and the wasteland would be procedurally generated, I don't know....

Other features that would also be cool is well programmed AI controlled drivers so you could drive with your party, biker gang style and go howling across the wasteland with Judas Priest and Motorhead tunes in the background. Obviously there would be a sort of gang managment included (fuel, funds, missions, tradeable goods etc) >_<

Eh.

Deus Ex > FO3

Word.

base
Imagine an APC. You leave the dog there, go into town to buy stuff and upon getting back see the door wide open, blood everywhere and the dog happily munching on what looks like a leg. You pet the dog, stolen car tracking sidequest averted! :p

caravan
I stand (well lie, but you know what I mean) in awe sir.

MMO-fitting stuff
You need a desert bus to swiftly get to Dustlake Town. There are two companies offering this service: Skill Driverz (with the S barely hanging on the board) and Ranger Tours. The latter takes the safer (and longer) scenic route on the road while the former just asks the direction and goes pedal to the metal. Road kill, "what's a brake?", mountain climbing, car crashes and hilarity ensues.

Ausir says Mark Morgan may be composing FO:NV music

Ausir's usually reliable, so I'm gonna get my hopes up. Morgan music + FO3 visuals / perspective + Obsidian writing could make some very, very good atmosphere.

I generally don't get too caught up in which game composer does what to whom. But that bit at the end of the blog posting asking us to "Stay tuned for first official New Vegas information in 3 weeks from now" did perk my interest (and not because of the poor grammar). Have any other sources corroborated that some kind of publication or convention or whatever is going to kick off the F:NV hype train in that timeframe?

It sure will be nice to find out something about the game.

Its pretty amazing to think NV was announced so many months ago, and yet we still know basically nothing about the game.

I'm espcially curious to hear about what is going to be changed/modified and what the fouces of the gameplay will be: combat? story? exploration?

Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.

Is that a fake. I don't even know what that is in the background, but it seems like someone ought to have filtered it to look affected by the atmosphere rather than just pasting it in.

That is all.

the picture is photoshopped and it has been confirmed by OXM, but it has also been confirmed that February issue will have first official information on Fallout: New Vegas.

Also i too really wish someone would confirm the bit about Mark Morgan, i loved his soundtracks of the original games.

Ausir knows everything. I really think he should be in fnv as an Easter egg

I agree, he's like a walking Fallout encyclopedia. Anyone that dedicated deserves a cameo.

But he definitely needs to check those "reliable sources" of his, this plus the Game informer "fiasco", I wonder who he's going to trust from now on :p

"We're interviewing Bethesda's Pete Hines about Fallout New Vegas for our upcoming podcast. Tweet us any questions."

The hype train is pulling into the station.
