"I have yet seen a Bioware game that has breasts in its name logo. THEY LACKS BALLZ! "

Heh. You got me there.

"But Rhomal wants Bioware pron!"

He can always spy on Mr. Gaider in the shower to get his BIO porn fix.

Gohtic 2 had a working brothel (50 gold for one night, baby!) and an animated cutscene of your character having sex with a prostitute.

Ah, those were simpler times.

Anyone remember a thread on the old BIS forums where someone complained that the "W" in the Icewind Dale logo looked like boobs?

Balls and bewbs. Every thread inevitably leads to our collective instinct: Screwing each other over, over, over.....and over again.

Wasn't that video still pretty lukewarm though? Been a while since I played Gothic 2.

About equal to the ME love scene, although you could do it repeatedly if I remember correctly. If Rhomal and others want porn in there games, they can play A dance with Rogues, plenty of nudity/sex there.

Thanks, I'll never look at Icewind Dale the same way again

Go for the boobies, Boo! AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGHHH!

See, Boo, squirrels! Throw your nuts at them!

nudity <> p0rn

Also bioware is a EA water boy now. I will be surprised if more conservative views from on top do not get involved.

As for other titles, I am not going to waste my time finding the specific title name but there was a interplay fantasy game where the main avatar was a topless female. Shown in many preview screens shots. On release got covered up.

Also I hear there were plans for more visual sexuality in bloodlines that got nixed by the publisher.

And then theres AoC which I named before... I am sure if I wanted to spend time refreshing my memory I could pull up more.

I know.. I know... I took the wind out of your sails I was able to name some titles so rather then dispute my point go back to rhomal bashing. *shrug* Predictable kids.

That sounds like "Giants - Citizen Kabuto"

I remember people saying nice things about the game itself at the time. Also some controversy about censorship.

Great call, thats the one. Indeed breast-gate caused some serious flaming on the interplay forums about that from what I remember. Some fan did release a patch to restore the nudity however, but as you implied it was the principal.

BREAKING NEWS: Creatures that look exactly like mammals, and have things that look like breasts hanging from their torsos are not, actually, mammals.

That makes no sense whatsoever.

It's called we don't have the testicular fortitude to have nipples in the game so we need to make some contrite, non-logical explanation so we can have our cake (try to show sexuality because it sells) and eat it too (but not too much because we don't want any big bad parent association after us).

Just for you.

post-1288-1234525630_thumb.jpg

Also, Mary Kerby is female. Also, I've often wondered why testicales are used as a metaphor for being 'tough.' Aren't they low on the pain threshold meter?

2:1 odds they get covered up before release.

It's the more tactful way to say the phrase 'they have no balls'

Right. Mary Kerby (the person who was talking about the dryad not being a mammal) has no balls. She is female. But the question was, why are balls used as a symbol of toughness when they're so sensitive? If a man gets a fairly light kick on the muscles of his upper thigh, it might not even faze him. That same kick in the balls, and he

If one has balls, then one is a man, and it is being a man that makes one capable of [insert AWESOME THING here]. If one does not have balls, then one is a woman, and as we all know, a woman is inherently inferior to a man. Having balls isn't about being tough, it's about being a real man, and real men do whatever the hell they want, whenever the hell they want. Like include nipples in computer games. If a man refuses or is incapable of doing [AWESOME THINGS], then one is not a real man, which makes one inferior. Like a woman. Hence, "no balls".

Are there only the six origin stories, or are there a load more?

It's just that none of them really do it for me. And the crazy elf chick one looks like a rip-off of the first ten minutes of 'Braveheart.'

Cheers

MC

There are six origins.

I thought 'Kill Bill' or Cassandra. Women have a bad habit of being brutally killed on their wedding day/night in fiction. It might be because many authors find weddings as boring as I do.

That dude has no nipples!

Anyways - anyone want to discuss the lack of human commoner origin? I think it's because BioWare wants to avoid the 'farm-boy who saves the world' story, but there are many posters on the BioBoard who are upset about its exculsion.

I'm more upset about there being no option to play a hedge mage, of even superficial ability, but I guess it's a setting thing rather than being a flaw.

Anyways, I really like the city elf option, dwarved noble is also something new. We don't often get to start in a dwarven settlement of any kind and it will be nice to see a more down to earth rendition than "oooh, you got machines"-diatribe like in every other fantasy game where you officially hit the half-way mark by entering The Dwarven City. All in all, it looks like Bioware is trying to shuffle the deck a bit and that's nice.

The Dalish origin still looks like Bioware's take on romantic Gypsies, hoh.

It's not the lack of the 'Human Commoner' origin that bothers me, it's the comparative lack of choice. That is to say I'm forced to choose one of six backgrounds that pretty much define my character for me, and then whatever happens I become a Grey Warden so I'm funnelled into two significant character development boxes by the all-seeing eye, Dave Gaider. It's typical Bioware spoon-feeding.

Hopefully you'll be able to dump the origin story baggage fairly quickly and move on to do your own thing.

Elves as the 'underdogs' might be a new one, but the archetypal Legolas ranger is still there. To be fair, knife-wielding Bunny Boiler elf chick looks a bit more original (except for the aforementioned Braveheart rip-off).

Do Bioware think that their player's minds will, literally, melt if there wasn't an elven archer or a surly dwarf warrior in their game?

Cheers

I actually think that the Elves as underdogs and racial fear with ghettos shares something with Sapfkowski's Witcher world, where xenophobia runs rampant and other fantasy races are as opressed as they get. So its nothing new in that regard.

On one hand, I applaud them for not having a farm boy start available, but on the other, they could try to break some bridges with tradition.

Actually you did quite the opposite.

I mean what...3 titles? One of them you couldn't even be bothered to look up because it's too inconvenient for you? I guess you'd just rather other people validate your claims for you. Luckily for you Gorth was there.

And then you play the victim at the end of your post, following it up with commentary about the predictable kids?
