The Witcher = manwhore game.

No wonder they went out of business.

Cool.

Nothing special yet, but that screen with the GUI and the fighting (with the lightning spell) gives me good vibes, looks like the gameplay could indeed be something in the tradition of Baldur's Gate.

Still the same old generic fantasy art direction, but honestly, I don't mind too much at the moment.

Screen shot 5 showing of the GUI and some sort of lightning spell.

Definitely looks similar to Baldur's Gate.

I like it. Only thing that has impressed me so far. Although it looks like he is gonna fry his teammate with the lightning. Can't say I care for the red bar over the enemy, let me guess I'll get to click on them and learn everything about them as well...

I wouldn't put much stock in the GUI. Guis are the last thing that is finalized in a game.

That's some ugly characters and armor, there. I like some of the monsters, though.

The thing is Dragon Age is going to be a series of CRPGs, at least that is Bioware's intention. Kind of like Final Fantasy but all set in the same game world, however they wanted to get away from the constant use of the roman numerals thingie (I, II, III, IV, and so for and so on) so they are giving each "Dragon Age" game a subtitle. Since this one is the first one which will deal withthe "origin" of the main character, the lovely player character, they are calling it "Origins."

It was a Diablo clone, in that the heart of the gameplay is mouse-based hack and slash (only the Witcher managed to suck what little fun was in that dynamic with its red light / green light "enhancement") which moves the story forward.

hats off to you sir!

you managed to post another several hundred words, only to demonstrate within the first 50 that you haven't the faintest bloody clue what you're talking about.

first of all, The Witcher didn't rely on combat to move the story any more or less than any other CRPG in recent years. You seem to be obsessed with the fact that, because it required you to click at a certain point to intitiate the next stage of combat, it was therefore "mouse-based hack and slash". In fact, it was no more "mouse-based" or "hack and slash" than any IE game or anything made since by Bio, Troika or Obsidian.

It's just that the story was admittedly more ambitious than any other Diablo clone

you mean, in that it had a story? and, in point of fact, one that far outstripped your average CRPG in terms of depth and complexity? That it involved making actual choices with moral consequences in a realistic manner?

If that reminds you of Diablo, dude, i'd love to visit the dimension you're living in.

the quests were 98% collection-based, since there's no real dialogue system to speak of outside of some paltry minigames

No real dialogue system? Man, this is getting silly. But i'm impressed with the depth of your analysis. Also, i had no idea they allowed computer access within the secure wards of mental hospitals. kudos!

it's low magic in sense that magic is rare

The fact it is very powerful and dangerous has been known since day one

How can it be a no ob build. It has PROVEN effective. I dare you to show your builds and I will tear you apart in an arugment about how these builds will won them.

Kelveren,

Seeing as Bioware has had "M" ratings on two games recently, and that didn't stop their release, I doubt that they're going to flinch if DA gets one. And as a point of fact, Gaider has said if it gets one, that's fine with him. So it seems to me they're not 'trying' for the M. But they're not going to cut content to avoid it, either.

for the record, those latest screenshots are consistent with what we've seen in the trailer: good graphics but nothing earth-shattering.

i also note that two of the five new screenshots show big-ass magic effects.

so much for low-magic, huh?

much as i like the idea of 'dark and gritty', i can't help but think the exchange went something like this:
Exactly. Just look how much a little alien ass did for Mass Effect. Also DA was always planned to be M, because it sells better.

I don't know. It's consistent with magic being "rare but powerful," though. Low magic won't be able to be gaged until we see the actual game and see how common spell-casting or items actually are. Who would really 'want' to play a mage who is useless?

my impression of the "magic is rare but powerful" concept is that it applies more to equipment/loot than to your magic using dude. i.e., you might not see a whole lot of enchanted swords, but when you do, they are +uberkill. otherwise, as suggested by RangerSG, what would be the point of playing a caster?
