  1. You're thinking of Metro. Which, and I don't recall the precise details, was more of a tablet thing. It was a part of Windows specifically intended for tablets. Edit: Looking into it, it seems it wasn't only for tablets. http://en.wikipedia....dows_8#Metro_UI I heard the same rumor you did, so I don't know what's going on apparently. Both the tablet and desktop versions of Windows 8 will have the Metro UI. Metro specific applications will only be able to be installed from the app-store (unless you're a developer/enterprise user). The version of Windows 8 that runs on ARM will only be compatible with Metro applications which means the only source of programs for that version will be the app-store. The version of Windows 8 for desktop PCs will support regular windows applications which can be found and installed as normal. However, the app-store restriction on Metro specific applications still applies.
  2. I don't know how to feel about the skill/level up system in Diablo 3. The player has access to all skills upon meeting certain level requirements and there are no points for character customization. I understand that there will be lots of customization through equipment and skill runes but I'm uneasy about a staple of the genre being removed. Hopefully it turns out alright.
  3. Team Fortress 2 has now adopted the Free to Play model. As in free to download and play and financially supported through micro-transactions.
  4. Steam has just added a Free to Play section to their store: http://store.steampowered.com/genre/Free%2...?snr=1_4_4__100
  5. Here's a comparison showing the effect both on and off (temporarily disabled by "Print Screen"). The wobble/color banding effect doesn't show up in the screen shots but is easily noticeable in game.
  6. Never noticed it before.. it's easy to miss if you're not looking for it but it's there. It looks like some sort of full screen effect filter as it appears consistently in the area no matter if looking at close objects, the distant landscape or the sky. Upon further investigation it looks as if it's an effect that makes the top portion of the screen brighter to simulate the sun in the more open areas. I also noticed that when hitting the "Print Screen" key to take a screenshot the effect disappears and then fades back in quickly.
  7. Many of the items that one can purchase in free MMOs "expire" after a set time. There are also often lots of one use items such as stat reset scrolls or extra potent health potions for sale. In both cases the longer a customer plays the game the more items they will rent/use. Essentially the expiring/one use item model ends up mimicking the monthly subscription model.
  8. Reading some of the user comments it appears the reviewer was overzealous and or mistaken in the part of the review I quoted. Anyway, according to TerminX: The game still too over the top for me but I thought I would add corrections before someone ragged on me for posting misleading information @Calax I do think the misogynistic tone and crass humor adds a polarizing effect that causes some reviewers to really hate the game.
  9. Another (non positive) review for the Duke: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/reviews/2011...y-offensive.ars No thanks, that's too far over the top for me. The report on the combat mechanics and game-play only make things worse. I'll wait for Serious Sam 3 and its 16 player co-op for an old style FPS to scratch my itch.
  10. I beg to differ sir, Vindictus has some of the best graphics on the market, an unique concept that's virtually untouched by every other MMO and it's free to play. There is money to be made by selling in-game items. Plus MMOs are a big deal in Korea and China; sport-like I would say, I would not be surprised if they had sponsors. When thousands of people visit your site daily and check your facebook page it's not hard to find people willing to pay for advertising space. That's why I said "...many of these free MMOs don't have the really high production values..." I've played Vindictus and it stands out among the free MMOs in terms of production values but it's rather unique in that sense. It was also released in a very piecemeal fashion with relatively little content at the outset which would have allowed the developers to stop working on it had it not been a success -- thereby mitigating a lot of risk that often goes into the normal AAA MMOs. I'm not sure about the rest of your comment as it seems to agree with what I said
  11. There's a lot of money to be made in the "Free to Play" MMO market. I think Nexon recently had a gang-buster year and a lot of growth with its free MMOs. Another thing to keep in mind is that many of these free MMOs don't have the really high production values like the traditional Pay to Play MMOs have usually had so there is less risk when investing in them.
  12. I noticed there was an entry in one of the ini files that had 'MSAA' set to 0. Setting it to 1 may enable AA.. or cause bad things to happen. I never tested it and no longer have the demo to try it out. There are 3 ini files, two are located in the Steam data directory for the game and the third user.ini is located somewhere in the user's my documents directory. Any settings in the user.ini file seem to overwrite the settings found in the other two ini files. There are some other graphical options that may reduce the blurry effect. I only messed with the resolution settings and left all the others untouched.
  13. @faloowPL If you're unsure whether to buy it based on the demo then wait until full reviews come out with more information on the game. I think it's a little silly to have us forum dwellers try to help you decide when we probably don't have much more information than you do If you don't think it's worth the full price then waiting for a price drop or a sale is always a valid plan.
