There is a random event in one of the homes you can live, where your children hear noise from the basement and when you check it, there are skeevers. Your children help you kill the rats.

So they are intentionally coded to fight and survive.

Dragons are funny because they apparently are coded to insta die when attacking essential NPCs.

This sounds brilliant. I might try it if I ever replay Skyrim.

Celeste. Slowly climbing up. The story is picking up and the game overall is genuinely nice.
Edit. Finished the main game. An excellent platformer with gorgeous art and touching story.
Review:

Spoiler

Celeste is a platformer. The controls are rebindable, the automatic saving is frequent, the graphics and visual style are gorgeous, the "VA" and soundtrack might get slightly annoying. Each chapter features new mechanics and environments to master and there are very few optional (not required for completion and hard to find) puzzles. Also, finding specific items in the main chapters unlocks optional more challenging ones.

The main character, Madeline by default but possible to rename, tries to scale the titular Celeste Mountain, deal with her inner demons, and make friends along the way. Also to collect flying strawberries.

The main difference from the other platformers is the Assist Options, allowing to change the game's speed or to activate the God Mode in various degrees, from being able to hold onto climbable surfaces safely for long to walking on spikes.

Elden Ring. Defeated Margot the Fell Omen at level 25 with a Scimitar +3, then Godrick the Grafted at level 40 with a Scimitar +4. The delay in rolling is very noticeable and irritating, so are the hard-coded menu controls, including the map. Which I had not known I could access out of the bonfires/sites of Grace, because the key was not in the settings. Wandered the Limgrave and Caelid areas for 2 hours, discovered the entrance to the Siofra river, ran away from several dragons and the duo of pumpkin head bosses, found another boat necromancer and killed it. I suppose, the locations are still as lovely as they were in Dark Souls 1, but the reskinned or simply copy-pasted bosses are somehow disheartening. The ones in ER strongly remind of Immortal: Unchained.

Somehow Conan: Exiles, Dragon's Dogma, and even Shadow of the Colossus, not to mention The Elder Scrolls, had more engaging open-world structures than ER. There were quests, there were more traversal abilities, there were unique bosses. I suppose, I had had unreasonably high expectations, given the developers' previous games (which have become worse), the high ratings, and the price, hence the disappointment. Still going to finish it, though. The mods are on and I should be able to just run into the next main area, skipping the grind.

Witcher 2. It appears CDPR implemented cheevos recently, but because everyone and their dog played the game ages ago, I get to enjoy Epic Achievements (0,9%, drank a potion).  I remember where I stalled almost 3 years ago (got told to explode nekker nests without any instructions or directions). No idea why I thought I have time to look for them on my own back then, now promptly googled that sh†t and will do so anytime the game decides to be cryptic with clues. Also hoping I'll get to go somewhere more urban next, swamps and wilderness suck. Minigames are no fun, but the story and characters are engaging enough to mostly outweigh annoyances.

Great choice, I love all the political intrigue of W2. And another thing I love about East European gaming studios is they not really concerned with wokeness  so you find attractive women  and interesting themes in the game

I hope  that doesnt impact chainmail bikini armour ;(

I get so upset when I hear people criticizing a liberated women's choice of clothes. People mustn't  be sexist and we must accept that a  womens  body is her own and if a women wants to wear revealing clothes, because she is confidant, we need to support this choice

I never heard of her but I looked her up, thats some serious chainmail bikini armor....no doubt

But I wont sacrifice gameplay for that type of aesthetic, gameplay takes preference always

I played through the first Age of Barbarian. They got the atmosphere of that era barbarian story down really well. Gameplay... Not so much :p

I looked up this game on Steam and the summary is

"Age of Barbarian Ex is an action hack 'n 'slash game inspired to 80s, fantasy and sword-and-sorcery genre. Muscular barbarians, scantily clad girls, hordes of bloodthirsty monsters, a lot of gore, a pretty epic story and an addictive soundtrack! What's best in life? "

Eh, I would say it is tied with "Not playing the Age of Barbarian Arena spin off game."

If you ever see me suggesting someone should play it, you have irrefutable proof I dislike that person.

So you play a divorced barbarian lady who has to fight through hordes of scantily clad monsters and bloodthirsty girls to get to her deadbeat no-good former husband and smack him with alimony hammer, right? :)

Ok, 2 hours in and I can give my early impressions on JA3. First off, they've captured the tone and feel of JA2. It's no surprise that Ian Currie is behind it, because it feels like Jagged Alliance. It starts out just like JA2. You create a character. You contract some mercs. You land in a hotspot. The AIM desktop is very well done.

Moving around the map is pretty simple. I'm still working out the combat, but it looks like you are going to be able to set up some pretty good ambushes. It's weird not having percentages when you try to shoot someone. Right now Ice is basically my killer and then I have a bunch of specialists that are so-so. Barry and Red for bombs, Livewire for mechanicals, and MD for medical. Livewire is a bit annoying, but she will probably grow on me. Actually Ice's character is oddly off putting. Think C. Thomas Howell in Soul Man. Other than that, the Mercs all seem pretty similar to the previous games and the NPC's are decent.

Anyways, I'm a couple areas in, so I'll post more as I get deeper later.

7 Days to Die, current save: for food, I just made "bacon and eggs" and "yucca drink". That is more than sufficient and I never need more for survival/day to day (as a solo player at least). But I finally had enough magazines and ingredients to cook some of the higher end foods, which I haven't done in A21 yet.

7DtD-A21-03.jpg

Holy, WTF. Around 53 (real life) minutes? I will tell you right now, the foods are nothing that special, they don't make you fly or give you massive uber buffs or anything. Just more "hunger" points mostly. That is ridiculous. I also have 2 perks that make cooking times 40% faster. Uh huh.

I will stick with bacon and eggs. Oh sure, if you cook 24 of those at once it might be 8-12 minutes, but that is a far cry from nearly an hour.  >.>   Edit: I know, you're supposed to go loot or dig while waiting, but that's not the point.

If for some reason I really like those "foods" I would mod their cooking times to 1/4 of default. Just silly. A21 has done stuff like that with many things, time to craft anything has skyrocketed. Not everyone plays in 6 hours sessions, ok.

I just had my first real challenging fight in JA3. It was a defense mission, and at one point my rooftop sniper (Ice) fell through the ceiling after an explosion. To add insult to injury, our trained recruits then hit us with some friendly fire. Everyone survived, but it was touch and go.

I'm very happy with the game so far. It nails the JA2 vibe and looks great. Livewire has also grown on me. There is a lot of merc chatter. This will be a very replayable game.

Right now I'm playing on default settings (First Blood difficulty with no game rules active). In a future playthrough I may do Commando difficulty with the Dead is Dead rule.

Im playing Gothic 2, I first played it about  12-13  years   ago  but I  raged  quit  because I decided to be a Fire Mage and I couldn't defeat many dragons. This time  I am going to be a Paladin

Im about 13 hours in and its a  great PB experience which include the normal open world and NO level scaling. I also  like how resources like gold are  scarce and everything is difficult at lower levels. Its the most effective and worthwhile  way  to implement risk  vs reward exploration mechanics in an  RPG and PB have the perfect design for this
