What Are You Playing Now: The New Beginning Thread

Playing CK3 ... I tell you house seniority inheritance laws are horrible!!!

I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"

Attempting to replay Fallout: New Vegas.

...And not regretting it in the least!  It has held up surprisingly well.  I mean what's more satisfying than dropping a frag mine in front of a Stealth Boy Super Mutant then finishing him off with your 9mm?  Playing it in 3rd person (something I haven't done before) and it's truly wild popping off shots at assailants.  Playing as a High INT + PER character and perks that beef up my skills per level and gunplay so I'm focused on guns but am largely proficient in everything else.

I played enough Remnant to know it was fun, but maybe a bit to small for my taste. It lacks the imaginative lore that I love about other Soulsborne games and felt over too soon without any real twists or reveals in the story, either.

Otherwise I'm going through some replays of old favorites to see if they hold up. Tales of Monkey Island was once my favorite game. And it was still freaking incredible.

I'm in the midst of Soma and it's simply only great. Honestly, great is a step down from what I remember.

X4 - I managed to build a dock on my base, which was a bit of a process. The game has me looking up stuff online, but there does seems to be a lot of interesting options. I'm super cash poor and haven't had much luck making money. So far I just wander around fixing satellites and finding lost luggage. Still, my base looks neat now, and I like that you can land on anything. I just need to buckle down and invest in a better ship.

So, for you grognards, I clearly got to the endgame in Kingmaker.  I mean, considering that I've been playing between other obligations, I think I went pretty fast.  Apparently, I was already there when I stopped playing in the first place, which is sad.  Anyhow, a bunch of quests came up with a X saying that they were failed, which tells me that I could have finished them if I had done things differently.  Should I finish now or, as tempts me, restart and finish later.  I was an enchanter specialist mage, but I think I would be better off being a transmuter or conjurer.  If it were role playing, I would definitely go enchanter.  For a hack and slash like this game, I think a more direct damage specialty would be better.  Then, I could ditch whatsherface and take KnockKnock.  I have no love for the little bastard, and I think whatsherface is probably better.  I dunno.  Start over or just finish and then go on to WL3 when I get the chance?

More Dark Souls 2 :) Because my Soul Memory went really over the top, the option to go into Winter Shrine before defeating Lost Sinner and The Rotten became available to me. After thinking a little bit, about it, I've decided to skip them for now and move forward into Drangleic Castle. I have postponed these two fight until I get one more spell slot available, because especially for The Rotten, I was not able to keep alive Lucatiel for her character quest. My Faith was pretty high for the best AoE healing spell in the game, but I had not enough spell slots to stay viable in DPS against him. Sooo after struggling little bit again with Ruin Guardians, I have arrived very soon at the Dragonriders fight, and again, I was ablr to defeat them on first try :) and under two minutes 😛

I finished Wasteland 3 for real this time

Maybe not for real, for real but real enough as no cheating was involved.

Spoiler

I'd been wandering the map and doing every single random encounter and quest and trying to squeeze every little bit of XP out of everything so my team was already pretty decked out and high level. Anyways, for some reason I kept putting Denver off even though level wise it seems like it should be one of the first places that you go but I guess I just wasn't in any hurry. I finally headed towards that way after I had already fulled explored the rest of the map, minus the bottom right area because rad-is-my-ation, and done every other quest that I could get to. To my surprise Liberty pops up in an encounter right outside the city and I'm like screw you and the warbots you rode in on, you're under arrest. We pew pew a bit because of course she doesn't go quietly and when most of my team is down, because I'm still not winning this fight at this point, my sniper gets one of those super lucky mega crits and takes Liberty out. Roll credits.

I skipped like 2 main quests

Spoiler

You get a quest for each of the Patriarchs wayward kids and I'd only done the one that is meant to be second according to the quest level and was on my way to do the first one. When the kid that's supposed to be the final one showed up before I got started I just took her out then and there. Because the game is semi open world-ish I was way more powerful than I was meant to be for that encounter and scored a lucky win. Normally she shows up and you have to let her go because you're way too low level to even think about stopping her.

I'm going through the demos that I have downloaded during the Gamescom. As far as they're still working, anyway.

The first one was Synstasis. I think I like the atmosphere, the world, and the story so far. There are a few problems, though.

1. It seems very linear, but that may just be the demo.

2. I want more overview in combat. I'm not really happy with it, as my characters seem to be automatically aiming for the closest enemy, and the dark lighting makes it hard to see where everyone is standing. Or who is friend or foe.

3. Those mouth animations during dialogue. You're not at the dentist. There's no need to open your mouth that far. Even if your just opening at shutting it due to the lack of budget for propper animations.

Apart from that, it's okay. It could be worth a look if you find it cheap at a sale. But it's still a work in progress, and it's already looking better than i expected, so we'll see if it gets even better. The story escalated quickly, I'll give it that. It's also nice to see a dystopian RPG that isn't post-apocalyptic. So I might buy it anyway.

If its alive, that is. There haven't been any updates since 2018, so...

Edit:

Oh, wait, there's a youtube video by the developers that's less than a week old. There's hope after all.

Wow. Cudos to the developers to include that option and cudos to Shady for pulling this off.

Mamie, you are being such a bad, bad  boy !!!!

You have been saying you are not going to play anymore DS for ages now and since I like you I cannot allow this flagrant disregard of your views by yourself to continue ....its okay, I never just criticize or admonish without a solution...thats why people hold my opinion in such high regard, Im a solutions person. Consider me your local, friendly bank :teehee:

I will  take full responsibility for what games you can play and what games you need to take a break from. In this case its easy....I am forbidding you from playing ANY DS for 6 weeks

If you disregard this then you will leave me no choice but to....to.....tell your parents to stop paying your internet charges and funding your gaming habits !!!

Problem solved, no more unnecessary playing of DS  :p

I am busy taking advantage of the free copy of the new Hitman on EPIC games launcher,

The download is 36 GB but damn its slow and prone to disconnects or 0 data downloaded at times and I have been trying for 3 days now for it to complete , it must because there is no local server in South Africa unlike Steam where downloads like this would normally take 4-8  hours maximum

No worries, as soon as Bioware stops making anthem-like trash and starts making games again, i’ll be suggesting that for sure ;)

I've decided to create an all female party. It's going to include the main character, Amiri, Linzi, Valerie, Octavia and Tristan.  Slow going so far.  It's a sign of a good game that I'm thinking about it while I do other things.
