RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS - BATTLE ROYALE

Recommended Posts

Probably because the writing in the Fallout games won't really matter anymore. All you'll be seeing in Fallout 76 will be either online players or baddies, no npcs, no dialogue. Will Fallout 5 be different? Time will tell...

as long as game magazines will praise that stinking pudle they are producing they don't have any incentive to outsource

I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"

It bothers me to no end how long Bethesda (the developer) has gotten a free pass from the vast majority of mainstream gaming media for their buggy, broken releases and terrible writing.  I can only think of one video game developer that mainstream media walks on eggshells around more, and that's Blizzard.  CDPR is probably #3 in that category, and I say that as a big fan of CDPR.

To be fair, Blizzard usually nails gameplay if nothing else. Bethesda's mostly just got open worlds with stuff to do going for them.

Don't think I have enjoyed a Blizzard game for real since Diablo 2. Played once through D3 when it was released, but more due to hype than any real interest. Haven't touched it ever since.

They just don't make the games anymore that I am interested in. Oh yeah, and their writing is complete garbage nowadays as well. :shrugz:

Blizzard missed the mark with D3 and SC2 had its genre die, but Overwatch and Hearthstone turned out pretty good and popular.

When was Blizzard's writing good ? :p

This is something that's been bugging me for ages. I do not mean to insult Chris Metzen - I'm sure he's a great guy in person - but his works had always seemed to predominantly pursue that weird old school nerd brand of cheap awesomeness, often to the point where his stories would dive face-first into stupid. How he managed to get a lifetime free pass in an industry where writers often end up being the favored punching bags of fans is beyond me.

Larian is the new cool kid on the block. Wonder how long that will last.

Seems pretty obvious. As much as I would love Obsidian to get another shot at it, Bethesda has grown a ton, and unless they buy Obsidian, they have little financial reason to outsource such a major IP.

Personally, I think they won't risk another team making a better Fallout game again.

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*

I think its more of an issue of price tag vs what they think they'll get for it. Obsidian owns 2 IPs (Pillars and Outer Worlds--which no one knows anything about), they have a reputation (that's been diminishing of late due largely to dropping industry standards) of releasing buggy games, and finally they make RPGs which Bethesda Zenimax's main studio already does so there's the chance that they might end up competing with themselves.

I'm mostly surprised Bethesda didn't acquire Obsidian. If Avellone is to be believed, the owners are looking to be bought out and Bethesda was gobbling up studios for a little while.

To be fair he also said that Feargus is constantly teabagging publishers and then high-fiving his friends while twirling his mustache at board meetings where they decide to keep all the money and not pay the staff.

He didn't say that. He just artfully implied it.

Maybe Obsidian looked like it wasn't the risk. Or maybe they just hate Urquhart

Arkane is best suited for a new Deus Ex game in my opinion. Open-world isn't really their thing.

I want to see them make another new IP personally, something to replace Dishonored. As much as I like Dishonored myself, I feel the market needs something fresh and I don't want them relying on a waning IP. Dishonored 2 is highly underrated and under-purchased.
