Poll: Should there be a penalty for being knocked out?
Namutree replied to Namutree's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I doubt the expansion is going to change the game rules. If this doesn't get implemented before release we probably won't see it until poe2; if at all. -
Poll: Should there be a penalty for being knocked out?
Namutree replied to Namutree's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
1: Right now the game kinda punishes you for healing more than just letting your pc get knocked out. If there was a penalty then letting your pc's get knocked out would be less OP. This would be good for game balance, and would make the game more tactical. 2: It would add more tension to the combat. Especially would be great when you manage to just barely keep a pc alive. 3: It would be good for immersion. It's bizarre to see your whole team nearly wiped out by an exploding trap; only for everyone to get up virtually unaffected. Watch Josh's live stream to see how silly it can get. 4: It would barely make the game harder if the penalty were light; which is what I suggested. -

Poll: Should there be a penalty for being knocked out?

That's too extreme given the mechanics. Wanna retreat when you're in trouble? ENGAGEMENT! -
I think it's silly that getting knocked out has no consequences. It's dumb mechanically, "Better not heal my front line; they'll be better off just going limp". It's bad for immersion too. Now, I'm not asking for any major change. Just a small Health penalty for letting your characters getting knocked out. 10% would be fine; maybe only 5% for the Barbarian. I know it's late in the development, but I think you guys could get this mechanic in. It seems simple enough. I also think it would leave room for some new spells to add in the expansion. What do you guys think? Is it a good idea? Is it too late to add this? Another suugestion I read once was the idea that Health could slowly drain the while you're knocked out. Thinking about it; that's a pretty good idea.

I think the fact that being knocked out doesn't have a penalty is bad design. Maybe 10% of your health should be lost when you get knocked out. 5% for the barbarian.

PAX South 2015 live thread
Namutree replied to Leferd's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Watching the live stream has convinced me there needs to be a penalty for getting knocked out. Watching nearly Josh's whole team get wiped by a trap only to get up and shrug it off like it was nothing was stupid. It's dumb mechanically and it's immersion breaking as hell. -
That's too clever. Not many would get the joke.

I think Rand Paul is the best chance we have to seeing a reformed republican party. If he isn't the 2016 national candidate; I'll just give up on them. As for the democrats; they're a lost cause already.

Betabackers: Are racial bonuses important?
Namutree replied to Kid Presentable's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I'm in some ways sorry to provoke people who seem happy enough in spite of their disabilities. But you guys realize on some level or other that "more flexible", and 'it now fits the limited role I think a fighter should have, perfectly' - are not two statements that could reasonably be said to have the same meaning? I never said, "It now fits the limit role I think a should have, perfectly." I said I CAN make a fighter with a limited role that focuses on offense. If I want to I can still make the defense build that was your only viable choice in the early beta; just now I have other options as well. Pretty sure you are... Like I thought; making things up. There is nor was any "Resistance" stat. Ever. Maybe you're thinking of resolve? Just a guess. Such a build would have been worthless. In the early build fighters were terrible at dps compared to other classes. The fighter NEEDED his heavy armor to be useful. BS. In the early beta the ONLY viable fighter build was armored tank. Attempt to make anything else and you were nerfing your fighter greatly. Tanking was the only thing the fighter was good at. -

THIS! I wish I could give two likes! I still remember how pissed I was that the fighter had to be an active defender because that's all fighters were good for when the beta came out. Now the system is much more flexible and I can make my fighter focus on offence with passive talents rather than active abilities. Like a fighter should be. -
A disaster? It's a bit bland, but it's not broken or anything.

I never played Bioshock. I heard that you can't die; that instead you just get moved to a previous checkpoint. I also didn't like the way the game looked. Ayn Rand is weird. -

What are you talking about? Taking on debt is very much frowned upon in conservative circles. -

I never even noticed any anti-communist bias. I never played Dragonfall though. -
I just wanted to let you guys know that my cat Namu is on my shoulder 90% of the time I'm on the computer.

I personally don't care for stealth gameplay; guess it should be nerfed to the point where it is basically unplayable. Mission f'ing accomplished if it forces people to play differently. There's no reason to reward them with a balanced level progression. Seriously, they're a blight on the community Poe is NOT a narrative based game. It's a combat based game.

Betabackers: Are racial bonuses important?
Namutree replied to Kid Presentable's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
No it isn't. They wanted the different races to play differently; people's game design choices are rarely made with sociological concepts in mind. Those things often affect the plot, but not mechanics. That's my opinion on that. I know you said you wouldn't talk anymore about this on the thread, but I can't help responding to it. D&D had them too, and they were amazing! I'm not really a fan of racial bonuses as they tend to shoehorn you into certain classes. I just don't think they were implemented because of racism. -
Yes, of course. IE combat was low-maintenance for all non-caster classes to the point where pure fighters were limited to switching weapons and using consumables (until HLAs were finally introduced). And to be honest I can't recall anyone being especially happy about fighter gameplay despite how awesome grand mastery was for pure DPS. Every class needs at least some active abilities. I liked it.
