My point was more how easy female elves are to find. I wasn't being exceptionally picky. Even so, given the game's already varied portrait style it's hardly a stretch to use that one; especially once the portrait is condensed which will slightly hide the differences. At any rate, the case is hardly rest even if you do have an unreasonable standard of precisely matching an internally inconsistent art style. The fact that you can find plenty of elf portraits online was only 1 part of a larger point: We already have plenty of elf portraits! Why do we need more as opposed to Wild Orlans or even 1 female Coastal Aumaua (The 1 we have seems to be an Island Aumaua)? This only becomes more redundant when you consider the new hooded portrait we'll be getting which will hide whether the portrait contains a human or elf. Bet it couldn't be passed as Wild Orlan or Aumaua.

Find me 1. Very well. First I'll post a set of the female elves from PoE to use as a reference. (Dang, these aren't even all of them? Yeah, we don't need more when we don't even have 1 Wild Orlan.) Here's a portrait I found after looking for... 3 seconds. Just condense it a little bit and you're done.

Why? There's a million of them on the internet already. Use some of those. We need more portraits of the unique races. I waiting for the second Aumaua female portrait, and first Wild Orlan portrait. I don't think we need female elf number 6972. Because those millions of elven portraits on the internet doesn't fit the art style of PoE. I'm not a fan of elves overall, but people playing them has as much of a right to get a good portrait that fits into the game as I have to get a dongheadless deathlike portrait. With that kind of argument I could just as well tell you to just take a picture of a persian cat and superimpose over a generic halfling portrait. Boom, wild orlan! What are you complaining about, it's soooo easy to make a wild orlan portrait. Now that's just silly. Plenty of those elf portraits would look fine compared to the other portraits. The art style PoE uses isn't exactly unique and portraits that fit the art style are as rare as lent; especially since the art style isn't all that consistent to begin with. Besides we aren't even discussing whether there should be female elf portraits; it's whether we need MORE female elf portraits. We already have a few, and we don't even have 1 Wild Orlan picture at all. Taking a picture of a persian cat and superimposing it over a generic halfling portrait wouldn't look even decent in-and-of itself; much less like a Wild Orlan. That's just a stupid comparison altogether.

New Engine?
Namutree replied to Aoha's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I agree. 2D ages much better than 3D. Really, it's strange that so many games are made in 3D when I would assume 2D would be less work and look better in the long run. Too bad Obsidian didn't go for 2D, but oh well... -
This is just wonderful. Very IE like. Does removing engagement make the game easier though?

Because it's really cruel. Keeping them alive is dangerous, but crucifixion is barbaric. Just shoot them in the head and be done with it.

Not really. North Korea does in fact assign people jobs. EDIT: Shortened the box to only include the statement that I responded to. I should have done that in the first place, but oh well... -

I think that's a little harsh. Some forms of socialism are like this, but not all. Socialism is a broad term that encompasses many different ideologies. None of which I support, but in fairness I feel it's best I object. Switch socialist with authoritarian and it'd be more accurate. -
I approve of this new build. Overall it's looking like it will be good at release which is a relief since I feared the game would be mediocre. Hopefully that means the game will be great once we get an expansion. It certainly runs better than the previous build so that's neat. Reading your posts makes me hungry.

Apologies to Obsidian
Namutree replied to IndiraLightfoot's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I don't know why, but shortly after the beta was first released I was flippin' out. I'm normally so stoic in real life, but it seems the internet brings out the worst in me. At any rate I already owned up to my silly reaction before, but I feel an additional sorry Obsidian (and to the readers of my exaggerated indignation) is in order. My hyperbole has since calmed down and my feedback more constructive. -
Path of the Damned not rewarding enough
Namutree replied to ctn2003's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
The primary difference between the difficulties is how many opponents you face - their stats are supposed to be the same, so I would expect the AI to behave identically on the different difficulties too, sadly. The Path of the Damned is supposed to be the only difficulty where the enemies gets an actual boost, as well as throwing the highest amount of opponents against you. I would be incredibly surprised if the AI used more skills at this level, too. Wont classes like the Ranger be terribly under powered on high difficulties? -
Poll: Should there be a penalty for being knocked out?
Namutree replied to Namutree's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Just realized this, but a minor penalty for getting knocked out would make the under powered disengagement abilities better too! -

If athletics is under powered then it could be hitting two birds with one stone. -

But that's exactly how it is. Like I said, it's about cost-effectiveness. For example, the Paladin can get Lay on Hands, which is 3-Per-Rest. Why would I spend it in an encounter to keep a guy up for another 5-10 seconds if I don't absolutely have to? And it's absolutely a tactic to let someone die in terms of effective time use. Either you spend time keeping someone alive, or you sacrifice the time (and resources, in terms of shared Per-Rest Abilities/Spells) that could be better spent on offensive oomph. There are definitely situations where you will let someone die instead of keeping them alive. Offense > Defence, 9 times out of 10. It's worse than that. It's not just more cost effective in terms of decisions in combat to let them die; it's better on your resources to let them die. Keeping a guy active in battle by healing him will mean he takes MORE damage than letting him die. Even if healing him didn't cost an action it's better to let him die much of the time to spread the damage around. "Good thing I don't heal my characters or they'd be really hurt." Is not something I should ever be thinking. -
They can form a party bashing the dems for being socialists while pushing for the never ending expansion of state power and the rejection of property rights. "Conservatives" indeed. Good riddance if they go.
