If this becomes common then feminists are in big trouble since feminism is unpopular in general and thus unpopular in nearly all industries.
-
If my friends are feminists (who are also women), and see the gaming industry as an unwelcoming environment to feminists, so decide to bolt, they're not being chased away by the narrative, they're chased away by the environment being highly unwelcoming to feminists. The fact that they're women is secondary to this, but not irrelevant to a separate discussion about gamergate being responsible for women being chased away from the industry. I mean, the result is that women are being chased away, whether they're chased away for being feminists, or for being women. On what basis is this an unwelcoming environment for feminists? If they think the game industry is unwelcoming to feminists then the problem is their own ignorance and no, GG isn't responsible for that. Feminism has nothing to do with game design so there's no reason to think their views will even come up.

Can I play this with 3-4 chars?
Namutree replied to Slish's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Playing with 4 party members will be perfectly doable. I've soloed the beta on a higher difficulty than normal so... Yeah, definitely doable. -
...Well, actually... Anecdotical, I know, but a not-insignificant number of girls I know who've been considering a career in game development have said "**** this ****, I'll work somewhere else" exactly because of Gamergate. Why? I don't see how GG would pose any kind of problem for them.

The Official Romance Thread
Namutree replied to Blarghagh's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Why is precedent important though? And which games would you say had good romances? Personally I never found romances in games anything special: too short, too shallow, too easy to accomplish... pretty meaningless all in all. If I had to make a pick, I'd say Mass Effect had some pretty good romances. Especially in ME2 where you could continue your romance with your absent lover from ME1. I'm serious, because of the absence of your fiancée, that actually was the best romance ever done in a pc game for me... You are correct that precedent in and of itself does not mean much, but it does show what people liked, and heavily implies that people who loved the BG series would expect similar features Keep in mind that romances were only in BG2; if people expected similar features in PoE as they got in the BG series they wouldn't expect any romance until PoE2. -
What you are describing is essentially cultural marxism, which is about as far away from fascism as possible. The issue essentially boils down to people, cultural marxists, who have no interest in gaming as a hobby, seeks to use it as a political platform.Don't you have to be a Marxist to be a Cultural Marxist? A lot of these progressive activist don't seem to be Marxists. Not really. Actually the few Marxists I've talked to tend to dislike Cultural Marxism and Identity Politics, seeing it as a distraction from class issues. Make of that what you will. Then why call it "Cultural Marxism"?

This is just silly. My mom would never tell me to clean my room.

The second video is more important than the first if you ask me.

If this is true then Skyrim is a perfect game and Wasteland 2 is a buggy unplayable mess. The game press isn't biased, after all. Certainly not. They would never want to mislead you. If you think that there is corruption in game journalism you are an insane conspiracy theorist. Also if you simply believe game journalists own admission of their agenda you are an insane conspiracy theorist.
-
And remember; all supporters of GG are misogynists who are just hiding their hatred of women. Don't forget that all female GG supporters are just sock puppets controlled by men as a part of a massive conspiracy against women. Yeah, we're the conspiracy theorists alright.
-
What "conspiracy theory" are you referring to; they wear their agenda on their sleeve. When game journalists straight up admit they give games lower scores and more negatively inclined reviews because they don't conform to progressive values; I don't think it's a conspiracy theory to suggest and object to the fact that they give games lower scores and more negative reviews because they don't conform to progressive values.

Is this really any surprise? The regressive gaming press are not moderates, they are not interested in the good of the industry, they are only interested in themselves, their own advancement and what they view to be politically fashionable at the moment. Leigh Alexander outright admits this, she is fame hungry and desperately wants attention, and is not interested in fulfilling the purpose of her role. Indeed representing the people and their role is judged to be unfashionable, striving to be objectionable is judged to be futile, ethics are laughed at and censorship is judged to be a desirable thing. Worst of all the regressive game journalists judge their audience to be untermensch, and they wholly embrace this, describing millions of diverse gamers from all races and both genders as dead, for no reason whatsoever, other than hatred and bigotry. They are basically unfit for purpose and need to be replaced and monitored by an impartial third party, that fulfills its role. This reaching out by Mr Kern and Mr Levine is pointless, developers would be better served by simply stopping using these corrupt and entitled institutions and working together to build a new gaming press and an independent overseeing body. This would be good for the industry, good for ethical practises, good for the consumer and good for journalism. RPS, Kotaku and Gamasutra etcetera are laughable, they are tainted beyond recovery and simply need to be left alone to wither and die in the pit of their own hatred and entitlement. They have all proven themselves to be hateful, sexist, racist, opposed to diversity, harmful to the industry and intent on demonising an innocent fanbase through lies and ideology. They have revealed their lack of integrity, and true feelings about the moderate and average consumer, and it is ugly and fascist. Obviously only my own opinion however. This whole thing isn't about bigotry on their part as much as a desire to use games as 'progressive' (which is just a polite word for fascist) propaganda.

Interesting video concerning the Escapist:

What do you mean? When I (an American) started this thread I did so because I wanted to discuss how political correctness can paralyze the state's ability to do it's job properly. This thread isn't proof that anyone is non-tolerant.

Expansion to be ToSC style
Namutree replied to Gairnulf's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
TotSC didn't need new companions, though; BG1 had a plethora of companions, and while it would've been interesting and nice for TotSC to add new CNPC:s, BG1 didn't really need it. By comparison, PoE could really do with at least a tripling of the available CNPC:s and there'd still be ample room for improvement. I second that the major TotSC questline was too short, and I hope that any PoE expansion opts to make a few major questlines (not just one really major questline that sticks off the main game like a weird thumb) scattered throughout the game. And add, like, 32 CNPC:s. +1000. Your english is really better than mine, and you just sumed up all i think: about the questlines, the CNPC, the way additional content should be scattered throughout the game, etc. At least you can speak more than 1 language. I'm sitting here knowing only 1. Tried to learn Spanish, but gave up cuz' it was difficult and giving up when the going gets rough is how I roll. -
What was wrong with Kaiden? Kaiden was my boy! He never gave me any indication he was bisexual but you know? I can appreciate him trying to keep our friendship strictly professional. Whats wrong with Kaiden!? Screw Kaiden and his whining about headaches; Kaiden gives me a headache. So glad I can get him killed. Him and Miranda are the bane of my existence. I hate them both! Kaiden more than Miranda, but that's a close call. Obviously I get Miranda and her insufferable essence killed during the suicide mission. Though for me it's more like the murder mission where I kill off my least favorite crew members!

Rest-Spamming: Good or No?
Namutree replied to Gairnulf's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
You likely need more experience. Not rest spamming on normal is easy. EDIT: Did you invest in DEX? Cuz' that attribute isn't working. That might be a part of your problem. -
Rest-Spamming: Good or No?
Namutree replied to Gairnulf's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Time limits for quests are fine; just keep the time reasonable. Give us like... a week at least. -
That's fair. In ME3 I was almost forcibly entered into a homosexual relationship with Kaiden. I thought I was just being a good bro, but then it got weird. Really weird. I've felt permanently uncomfortable ever since then. I hate Kaiden. In ME1 I actually thank Saren for the chance to get him killed. Screw Kaiden.

Who do you expect to bring along on your first play through?
Namutree replied to wanderon's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
At least they're not terrible now. -
I'd like to see them try and get past Joe Biden's mighty shotgun.

Chants for the Chanter - Lack of Sound Effects
Namutree replied to Havelok's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Loved the casting gibberish. The, "nacho, nacho, berries!" was my favorite.
