  1. So you played the PC version of Arkham City? I played the 360 version, and I actually thought the combat was fun. I also thought it was pretty intuitive, the button combos working well with the controller layout and such. Yeah, never owned a console in my life
  2. I always thought of a Paladin as a rules lawyer that was a stickler for following some specific code of conduct particular to his knightly order. Sort of an embodiment of said code. Monks struck me more as the reflecting type that observe and learn through observing and thinking (or meditation) and learn to master their own minds and bodies through exercise and discipline. Being good at martial arts is just a bonus from such mastery. Edit: Being a Warhammer fan, a flagellant will always remind me of raving lunatics running around with bloodied naked torsos, whipping themselves while screaming "Repent!" and "We are all doomed!"
  3. Around the campfire (figure of speech), I like my companions independent right down to and including the point where they try to slit my throat in my sleep if I did something they didn't approve of. Just leaving the party is getting off too easily. Heck, they could come back later with "friends of their own" and try to throw me over the edge of a cliff In combat, I the player (not my character) likes to stay in control and issue orders. What I would love to see is companions sometimes "rebel" against my instructions if it's anathema to their personality. If I tell a berserk fighter to retreat, he may ignore my command, if I tell a coward to attack, he may decide to stay put etc. (a bit like leadership tests in Warhammer) The old IE games had it in limited form with "effects" like fear or rage, but I would like to see companion psychology and preferences play a larger role. Same thing goes for their equipment preferences.
  4. VMBL too for that matter. Lots of interesting art work was made for that game.
  5. They invented these things called DVDs recently, they're pretty good. I'm going to be disappointed if it doesn't fill up a dual layer BD Room for a lot of developer commentary, soundtracks etc. on one of those.
  6. Well, I already spent some time in Hong Kong this summer, so I've got a good idea what to compare it to But I also have a backlog of games, untouched or in progress that I don't really want to commit to another time sink before I've worked off a bit of the queue. Finishing my first game of FO:NV, DA2, a game in progress of IWD2. Then there is Skyrim, The Book of Unwritten Tales, XCOM, Crusader Kings II, the GTA games and Dishonored which I've barely touched (installed and tested that they work). Oh, and a number of DLC's that require a new playthrough of ME2 & 3 (and DA:O). You get the idea That's not including a number of Good old Games purchases and some lesser known games bought from Gamersgate. Just don't expect it to be realistic in the "not comparing it to Deus Ex" way. Ah yes, Deus Ex is also one of those Steam purchases waiting for me to give it a go some day

  8. I don't know Sleeping Dogs, but I wasn't too impressed with the combat in Arkham City. Good thing I got the game for free with my gfx card Now Watchmen: The End is Nigh (pt. 1 & 2) was a different matter. Despite similarities the combat just felt much better. Must have something to do with the responsiveness of the controls.
  9. It's a balance thing. If the main focus of the game was combat and I was spending like 90% of my time in combat, I would prefer turn based. If combat is incidental and happens occasionally, I can live with something not too different from IE combat (bearing in mind that I hate RTS games passionately). As long as it's slow enough that I feel like I stay in control of what my entire party is doing. Isometric perspective does go some way to help with that.
  10. My cynical side says it's BS, doesn't sound right to me...I want it to be true though Reminds me of scam mails. Trying very hard to play on what people want to see to the point where they suspend scepticism. But like any good ex-dictators treasurer he just adds too much, rather than keeping the trolling simple.
  11. I don't think they need to copy "Mindflayers". If sufficient mechanics in the setting is based on souls, it wouldn't be a far stretch to imagine soul sucking monsters. Add tentacles by all means if that makes them scarier, but something that devours souls rather than minds seems more appropriate. Could lurk in swamps too. Probably some variant of the archetypical orc too. Strong, brutish and warlike. Makes excellent cannon fodder for adventurers that have graduated from the College of Ratslaying. Personally I would love to see a focus on critters that works with the game mechanics (i.e. souls, spirits whatever). Banshees, Pixies, Demons, Hags etc. Celtic lore is full of the stuff.
  12. I had happily repressed the memory of Alvin. The one and only character in The Witcher I truly wanted to feed to a swamp monster before even knowing his later role. If we can't kill kids in this game, at least offer us the option to give them away for adoption. Peasant girl (whose name I can never remember) was a similar figure in NWN2 that you had to play father figure for and it was equally horrible (at least her real father showed up and helped you get rid of her). I really wonder if it is worth the effort to try and write something not cringe worthy into the story?
  13. Wasn't ME1 and its DLC's published by Microsoft? Different publishers sometimes adds an extra obstacle when you want to release bundles (they don't always get along and love poking a finger in each others eyes).
  14. It's on my wishlist. Do tell me more Add one more who is curious (and had had it on his wishlist for a while)
  15. Awesome, all they they have to do then is colour the armour pink and you'll be happy Indeed. Doesn't change that the original Cadegun armour was butt ugly in a suspension of disbelief hurting kind of way. If it had been ceremonial armour, then maybe, but as work clothes it was ridiculous. And yes, that from a testosterone oozing male who loves chainmail bikinis (in fact, having invested a lot of money on large Boris Vallejo posters over the decades). If that particular armour is your entire basis for arguing why women should be "sexier" in video games to make you happy, then you need to learn how to pick better fights. Yes, it *was* that ugly in it's first presented form.
  16. The only number I would like to see is what is left after PayPal, Kickstarter, failed pledges, printing of cloth maps, physical editions, shipping of same etc. have all been subtracted so we have an idea what is the real number, because it is probably way less than $4.1m

Thread getting a bit long... new thread
  18. Start of old thread End of old thread Why does that remind me of Wayne's World and Bohemian Rhapsody? Wooooooo? Sitting and wondering why we haven't seen our semi-tame lizard at work for several days now. We have this Australian Water Dragon which is absolutely crazy about cheese (to the point where I can hand feed it now), showing up every now and then at lunch time outside the lunch room. I always worry that it might end up a road kill some day.
  19. The jury is still out on Windows 8... Theists and Atheists, that's a bit like a shouting contest between Pot and Kettle over who is blackest.
  20. Well, the first one is listed as no longer available... sort of eliminates if from the competition, doesn't it?
  21. Oh, I thought he was taking a jab at my computer It's a Counter Strike feature/meme. Never played Counterstrike. That one went over my head
  22. Oh, I thought he was taking a jab at my computer
  23. If I'm not part of the problem, does that make me part of the solution? Saw that one for the first time this year as in-flight entertainment. As for why people play 'x' game? It probably helps if you have pushed it enough to become the "de facto standard" that other games needs to compare themselves to. Then it becomes the default that people return to when new versions come out, because everything else is 'x' wannabe's. How many publishers have had dreams about making the next WoW? The next Diablo? The next CoD? The next (insert popular franchise typically summarised by a single game name)?
  24. Well, I'm setting myself up for a play through of ME2 and ME3 once I finish DA2 and the DLC's. I'll keep that in mind
