One of the first things I ever built as a "self taught" C64 programmer (several years before I signed up for CS at the university) was a two-pass assembler, basic was just too slow Does building your own DMA hardware using only 74xx series of chips count as qualification for handling boolean math? I had no problems constructing my own neural networks and train them (when I was younger). It would be interesting to see how it perform on quantum computers. I once developed (as part of a team) a programming language for distributed processing on a network of Unix machines for calculating humongous arrays (wave simulation), but it didn't really involve any math, just logic and an understanding of grammar and processes. What people feed into the arrays and do with the results was less important for me I guess the coding itself was never really what interested me as much as the analysis and design process. Implementation is just a tool to realize your ideas. Besides, you can get people to help you with the coding

Never underestimate the sweet tears of despair! I just deal in stuff that doesn't require much in the way of math. I've always had a knack for geometry and trigonometry (because I can mentally visualize it and model it in my mind), but stuff like trying to figure out the correct Fourier transformation of a function leaves me drooling and moaning

Not playing much at the moment and when I do, it's mostly XCOM. I've been diverting a bit of my precious spare time to add some paint jobs to two of my Warhammer armies (Skaven and Empire) after "completing" them with some OOP models purchased on ebay.

Kinky Let's just say, the feedback from people whose opinion I trust on such matters has been pretty 'meh' so far. Windows 7 may not be one of the 7 wonders of the world, but I think I'm going to stick with it until Windows 9. Might check out the current crop of Linux distributions in the meantime. Entirely anecdotal, but I suck at math (a nice way of saying 'a complete disaster') and made modestly successful career out of development Maybe my natural affinity for languages and transforming problems into something I can visualize (in my mind) and express with the tools at hand may have helped. It sure wasn't math.

In my immediate environment, for former is regarded as a man of cooperation, the latter as a man of confrontation. Guess which one is most likely to build working relationships? Of course, people sometimes change their tune after election is over, so what could have been is now entirely hypothetical anyway, at least for the next 4 years. Edit: I should probably add, if I had been Australian, I would be red-faced embarrassed by the current crop of politicians. The PM is a backstabbing weasel and the opposition leader a moron, so it's not like there is something to boast about. Really a sad state of affairs.

That reminds me of my university years

I love jumping spiders and love taking photos of spiders in general. But doesn't mean I want them in my food, bed, or hair. Hahaha. I have this quite entrepreneurial spider who has become obsessed with the passage between my patio and where I store my rubbish bins. It has become a ritual to wave the garbage bags in front of my head when taking it out at night, tearing down its latest web, before running headlong into it. I've never seen the actual spider, but precautionary measures can't hurt. Some spiders down here have a nasty bite It was Melbourne Cup day down south in Victoria yesterday, so we spent a bit of time at work betting on horses, getting good food, beer and bubbly wine in the early afternoon. Won $8 in total from my $6 bets. Not too bad.

Sorry, completely off topic. I visited their website recently and it was as funny as an episode of Monty Python. I was shocked that they didn't try to pin Sandy on Obama (I suspect they tried very hard to find an angle, but couldn't quite manage it). Hmm, Bioshock, one of those games I bought a long time ago from Gamersgate and never got around to play. I also got Dishonoured from Steam, which is probably on my to do very soon list.

I haven't lost a team, but I did lose a captain (severely wounded, 2hp left, but a good track record of stunning aliens) who was trying to sneak up behind one. Placed just on the other side of the wall so he could reach the cyberdisc next turn. Then the damn thing decided to head the other direction, just past my captain and catch some overwatch fire (from another guy in the background) exploding next to him... R.I.P. I love the assault guys, but they seem very rare in my game. Had a total of 3 so far (of which one is dead) and the other two have achieved rank of colonel and lieutenant. I usually send them in as a pair when I need to quickly bring a lot of firepower to bear in an area, like when spotting a sectopod. Running and dodging the first enemy overwatch FTW

I use my supports in a dual role as "stunners" and medics. That is, those of them that has large enough pockets. Otherwise they serve as medics in the field. Maybe that's why I've only gotten 5 or so research credits so far (I caught a few duplicates along the way). I haven't managed to stun any droids yet, both cyberdisc and sectopods being a bit too nasty when getting close and personal

It doesn't hurt to play Kotor 1 first. It's not essential, but you might (or might not, depending on some choice in the beginning of Kotor 2) run into more familiar faces besides a few unavoidable ones.

A few gripes... I think the maps are way too small, I miss the freedom of weapon selection of the original and I miss having flares to throw around in the darkness That being said, for a "x-com lite", what they did include they included fairly decently. Visuals are nice, sounds are ok (I miss some of the ambience of the original though). Is it a bug or by design that my guys "undress" when they get wounded? It makes it a bit hard keeping track of my inventory of bodyarmours and guns. Also, getting rid of a recruit doesn't seem to reduce the number used of my barracks capacity??? I tried hiring and firing for a while due to a severe shortage of assault guys. A shame you can't pick your specialisation explicitly.
