Why? There are many people with the same name in real life. My name's Andrea, and so is the name of a few hundred million other people on the planet. Why should a fantasy world behave any differently? In the case of player-generated characters it would also be a rather forced and arbitrary limitation. If you wanted to play a full party of six people named Antha, you should be able to do so. Nothing wrong with it.

Did you kill the Sky Dragon in that play through? I had already read of people purchasing the eyes from the Curio Shop, but it has never happened to me—and I kill the dragon every time. My theory is that you can buy the eyes from the Curio Shop if you don't kill the Sky Dragon, to compensate for your choosing the peaceful solution (otherwise, people going peaceful would be locked out of upgrading their weapons to Superb, which would be tantamount to punishing them for choosing not to fight.) Of course, as I'm unable to say no to a good dragon fight, I could never put my theory to the test

Firedorn returns
AndreaColombo replied to Ineth's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Agreed 100%. The easily offended should grow a spine; this is life, not nursery school. Then again, when some people say "equality" what they really want is preferential treatment. It's part of the whole politically correct lingo, just like advocating for the removal of gender-specific pronouns. Do they offend you? Then it's time you grow up. I call things their name. Calling me "they" to avoid referencing my sex won't change what lies between my legs. -
Hide Base - 5 DR Corrode - 5 * 50% = 2.5 DR (rounded up to 3 by the UI.) Exceptional Hide Base - 5 + 4 = 9 DR Corrode - 9 * 50% = 4.5 DR (rounded up to 5 by the UI.) Exceptional Hide with proofing Corrode - (9 + 3) * 50% = 6 DR It's working as intended. The UI's failure to communicate this has already been raised to the devs.

Observation....
AndreaColombo replied to Oralaina's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Adding my pleasure to the pile. I've always hated "textie" speech; nothing screams "I'm an illiterate nuisance" quite like it. -
2.0 did away with text upscaling on resolutions higher than 1080p and for this I am ever thankful. However, a couple text rendering issues are affecting the new rendering code at 1440p (I cannot comment for other resolutions as I only possess a 1440p monitor.) Text starts out as blurry, then sharpens. By no means a big deal, but still an issue. Upon starting the game at 2560x1440, text appears blurry: Upon loading a game, text in the loading-screen tip starts out as blurry, then suddenly changes to sharp after a while. I tried to take a screenshot of the same loading screen as blurry and then sharp, but for some reason FRAPS won't take a screenshot of it after the text sharpens. From that moment on, text is always sharp until you leave the game: If this issue is resolution-specific, it might be related to this other one whereby character models are upscaled at character creation and level up at 2560x1440 but appear perfectly crisp at whatever other resolution below and above 1080p. Inconsistent text size. This is the more bothersome of the two; I've recorded a video to better demonstrate it: https://youtu.be/Xr5ajOk9Uhw Observe how scrolling up/down changes the size of the text. Further observe how certain letters never appear to change size (namely: m, n, p, t, r); this means that they'll look too small when they appear on lines with bigger text. I highlight some of them in the video by pointing at them with the mouse cursor. Here's the saved game I used in the video: link My output log: link My DxDiag: link

Min/maxing isn't inherently wrong or evil and should not be actively prevented. It is a problem when min/maxing is the only way for your character to be effective. As of 2.0, I feel that is no longer the case in POE. CON and RES are still "dumpable" to an extent, but only for certain classes/builds. Even then, in most cases it is advisable not to dump them to 3.

Yes, it's been an issue since release. It's the same with other modals, e.g. Savage Attack or Vulnerable Attack. If you save and reload, the VFX is gone for good (though if you turn off the modal, save, reload, and turn it back on the VFX will work.) I believe QA are already aware since it's been an issue since release; if not, Aarik let me know and I'll provide files and repro steps.

Having Concelhaut's skull as your pet should make everybody poop their pants when they see you. "I've got one of the most powerful archmages in Eora as my private pet so excuse me if I don't find you particularly intimidating, Thaos. I'll hang your head in my keep next to the three dragons I decapitated on my way to you."

The Grieving Mother
AndreaColombo replied to Alexander1's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Did anyone understand how she could forget her past altogether? I mean, she does mention trying to suppress the memories of what she had done but ... I don't know, it felt kinda forced for some reason. She used her Cipher powers to suppress her memory of what had happened and ... well, if she didn't remember what had happened in the village, why did she leave? If she left while still remembering, why didn't she go back after forgetting? If you choose to erase the memory from her mind when she asks you to, the end-game slide says she goes back to the Birthing Bell, waiting for more women to come deliver. So why didn't her suppression yield the same effect? (And why did she keep the caul up if she didn't remember why she was doing that?) -
[Bug] Missing buttons

I've got this too. It doesn't happen all the time, which makes it hard to provide repro steps, but often enough to be annoying :\ -
Fighter Balance Mod for 2.01
AndreaColombo replied to dherve10's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Modding (Spoiler Warning!)
Does this work in conjunction with IE Mod? -
As explained here, chances are you are missing the draining.unity3d file. If that's the case, grab the one Oralaina provided (link in the link above) and place it in your objectbundle folder. It might not fix items retroactively, however, so you may still have to sell and buyback or cheat for that. On related news, IE Mod 5.06 beta for patch 2.02 has been out since the patch was released on Steam as announced here. It's not on Nexus's main page because it's a beta rather than a full-on release, I suppose. Works perfectly fine for me; download link.

Bug report: minor text error
AndreaColombo replied to sarah's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Hi Sarah, I suggest reporting textual issues in this thread to keep them all in the same place (also, Eric's been keeping an eye on that thread, so it will increase the chances the issues actually get fixed.) -
The Dozen's Thugs
AndreaColombo replied to AnjyBelle's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Taking the armor from Penhelm is not the Dozens' main quest; their main quest involves looting Lle Rhemen. I've always killed Penhelm for the armor and subsequently sided with the Knights of the Crucible. -
^ Same here: No issues with 5.06 beta. I don't dislike in-game character models (and love the overall graphic design), but the heavy texture compression has to go. Unfortunately it looks like they couldn't implement much in the way of optimizations and used heavy compression to make up for it (doesn't work too well; sometimes the game slows down significantly on very powerful machines too.)

Springwight, tjayharvey - would it be possible to implement a console command that restores default colors on NPCs? Some of Obsidian's NPCs use colors that are not available to the player. Sometimes one might change them to better match the equipment they're using; however, selecting a new color means the original color can no longer be had if it wasn't part of the selection available to the player from the start. Very marginal stuff for aesthetics bitches like me, but if it's feasible, it would be kewl.

Gaun's share special ability missing
AndreaColombo replied to Vorad's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Check your objectbundle folder; chances are you are missing the draining.unity3d file. If that's the case, download the one most generously provided by Oralaina here and place it in that folder. It might not fix Gaun's Share retroactively, but it will fix the Draining ability on all other weapons that have it going forward. -
