There's a place for people wearing sexy outfits in a fantasy themed cRPG, it's called a brothel.

Cats indeed rule the internet, and capture the attention of AI neural networks. http://www.dailytech.com/Googles+Unsupervised+SelfLearning+Neural+Network+Searches+For+Cat+Pics/article25025.htm One day soon...the machines will rise and place cats at the top of the worlds hierarchy. I suggest you start making feline Friends ASAP if you want a place in the Royal Family of Felines.

Violence
jivex5k replied to Takamori's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
As long as they put in a "more gibs" console command I'll be happy. -
I don't like your option for not playing, makes it seem like I don't want to try it. I'd like to have tried my hand at pen and paper...but I never had any friends that shared such an interest. Alas, my life has felt empty and meaningless due to this.

As much as I like randomized loot attributes (Diablo/Borderlands) I don't think it would fit well into this type of game. I'd prefer hand crafted unique magic weapons/items over randomly generated boosts. Socketable items, I'm gonna lean towards no as well, just doesn't feel like a good fit for what I hope this game will be. I love socketable gear and randomized loot, but it has it's place.

In favor of Repeatable Quests?
jivex5k replied to metacontent's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I don't like fetch quests in general, unless your fetching something extremely powerful for some other reason. But the old, "I need X amount of Y for Z" I'll kindly say no thanks. I'd rather have them make unique quests. -
Please no Real-time conversations. Ever.
jivex5k replied to dal's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Time limits on dialogue? No thanks! I want to read the dialogue completely and ponder my decision. I want painstaking choices where you have to pick the least of horrible choices. I want internal struggles with my character deciding how to respond. I don't want to be rushed... And the entire world should freeze when I'm speaking to someone....yeah yeah it might break the realism and immersion of the game but IMHO the benefit outweighs it this. Ultimately, I should be able to start a conversation and pour myself a beer while pondering my response. Maybe make a bowl of ramen with mushrooms to mull over my options. -
Make sure you have your sniper rifle equipped and not your pistol too haha. This drove me crazy I was like WTF I can't aim at these ones with plusses or what?

@ Hurlshot - In some missions, particularly escort ones, aliens will seem to come from no where sometimes, jumping out of thin air. if you have some crew on overwatch they usually get blasted. And the game gives you a turn to react before the newly-appeared aliens get one. I'm loving the game still, my sniper is a beast. Squad sight + good ground + skeleton suit + double tap....yeaaaaaaaaa One thing I hate is how soldiers in the barracks will still wear their gear, even if not going on a mission. Wounded soldiers get it right though, they take off the gear before they are treated.

I might be missing your point but it seems like you want to eliminate or minimize the ability to power game Project Eternity? And you don't want combat to be a chore, and for that to happen you need combat rewards? Well as to power-gaming, people are gonna be people. They will power game if they want, don't make design choices based on limiting player choices. Combat definitely needs tangible rewards whether it's XP, reputation, loot, or a combo of all three. Sometimes combat will be a chore after so long, I mean honestly I got sick of fighting dragons in Skyrim but it's cause it happens so often. Party based games have the benefit of a more tactical combat scenario. To keep it from becoming a chore, I'd say you simply need varied encounters in which different tactics are necessary to defeat your new foe. X-com is a good example of introducing new combat strategies all the time to keep it interesting...that coupled with heavy consequence. So I suppose it boils down to: Keep making the player use new combat tactics. Ensure high consequence for failure or party member death. Ensure a decent amount of difficulty so you can't just select your whole party and right click.

Quality or quantity?

Yes, hopefully they allow saving anywhere. Were all old now...no time for 6-hour FF7 sessions. -
I want to be a dragon
jivex5k replied to Dragonnn's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Whens the last time a game had a dragon that gave you riddles? And ate you for getting the answer wrong? I want my freaking riddle asking, treasure guarding dragon! -
Why don't they depict women as women? What else would they depict them as anyways? Men? If you guys are worried about bikini-clad vixens running around, this isn't DOA beach volleyball here. I'm sure there will be some sexy sultry ladies, and some old haggard crones, some tough fighting lasses, and some salt of the earth farmgirls. Women from all cultures will be represented as is appropriate to their specific character. What's interesting to me is how the different cultures could view women and men, and what their obligations to their culture are.

What could have been done better.
jivex5k replied to Loranc's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I think the kickstarter did very well and have no specific cristicisms about it. In fact, this was the first kickstarter I ever donated to...so there ya go. I suppose the lamest part was the chat during the live streams...but that's internet chat for ya. Whoever that guy name urine something...god man you really suck. -
I like my numbers game, please don't take that away from me. Borderlands was like crack, and don't get me started on Torchlight. But this sounds cool for a fallout style hardcore mode where you have to sleep and eat and drink water and everything weighs more.

Killing all NPCs
jivex5k replied to jivex5k's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Some very good points made here. Story is pretty damn important, but so is letting the player craft his own story. I think the best compromise between keeping a good story and keeping a lot of player choice is the ability to get the player to the end via other means. Maybe it's time to get away from viewing single NPCs as quest givers. Make it flexible where if an NPC with a certain quest dies someone or something else could give you the quest. Maybe the NPC has a note on his corpse you can loot and start whatever quest he wanted to give you. Maybe you shouldn't even have to talk to them to start it. IE - Someones daughter was kidnapped, but you kill the father in a fit of rage due to a slight disagreement. You find the kidnappers ransom note on his body, read it and head to the drop point to destroy the kidnappers. Or you can accidentally stumble across the drop point and save her to which she tells you where her father is..but whoops you killed him so no reward for you, but at least you saved the girl. Just throwing ideas out there. -
Yeah those crits make you hurt inside hahaha.
