Monsters, what kind would you like to see in this game? Personally, I like the third option. I want to fight my old-school beasts mostly, but would like a new concept here and there. Maybe this poll is stupid or biased but it is what it is. Oh and of course I'd love to see unique bosses and unique version of known monster types. Like some giant beholder named: "The Eye" And the monster types i'm speaking of are the standard D&D/Tolkein fantasy stuff. Orc, Ogres, Kobolds, Smart-mouth genies, and dragons that ask you riddles that will eat you if you answer wrong.

Orcs - discussion

Personally I hate seeing orcs that are labeled something else. Fighting the darkspawn...that was lame man. I'd rather have had traditional enemies, darkspawn were just ugly and I felt less joy slaughtering them. I want to fight the old-school fantasy monsters in this old-school fantasy rpg, not some renamed slightly different or just plain weird monsters. I'm fine with having every cliche' monster possible in this game. Give me a talking dragon that guards it's treasure with riddles! I digress.... I hope orcs make it in the game one way or another. I'd love to see them as enemies only, but if they are in the game at all that's good enough for me. -
I felt the same way until I upgraded. Windows 7 is leaps and bounds better than XP, it's worth the upgrade just to upgrade windows. And X-Com....yeah it's worth it man!

I love x-com but it just doesn't seem to fit in a BG style game. Maybe I'm just being narrow-minded here but it just doesn't feel right if that makes sense. To a certain extent cover exists in that if your out of the enemy's line of sight. I'm no developer though, who knows it could be a perfect fit and a blast to execute. I know x-com is fun as hell, but that's apples and oranges.

Character Death

I'm down for a permadeath setting too, but on one of the special difficulty levels. -
I don't know about a mini-game or whatever but I would like to see alcohol in the game. Sometimes it's nice to have a fresh pint after getting back to town. I don't like games that lower your skills or blur your vision when you do this though...I'm a freakin hero, one pint of mead won't even phase me. That being said, if I sit there pounding shots yeah it should affect me, I suppose I'm not a fan of games that cause an instant effect of being drunk. I always liked drinkin with friends in UO...but those were real people so I dunno. I guess I'll just keep it simple: I want to be able to have a pint after a quest without falling down drunk.

Does anyone know how to use the:"Tactical view" or whatever to scope out aliens for more info. I keep seeing it referenced after autopsy but can't figure out how to use it.
-
Why? What's wrong with it? I've been having a blast with this game.

I've been loving this game! I've named the solidiers after my friends and happily inform them of their brave yet grisly deaths. Damn muntons....mutons.....uh.. Damn tanky aliens!

Character Death
jivex5k replied to jivex5k's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I'd prefer the dead character to stay dead in whatever area he died. Then your remaining party could travel to town and get the required skills/items for revival. I like the idea of 1 party member barely escaping death, resupplying and maybe hiring some temporary help, and storming back into the dungeon on a mission to revive fallen comrades. I'd definitely put a decay time on the corpses though. -
I don't know who the man is but some quick research shows he's had success in the past with this field. And the fact that he very recently worked for Obsidian is good because he will fit right in with them I imagine. Does it have me excited? No, not really, but it's good to know they are hiring someone with prior success in the field. Seems like he will be a good fit for this type of game.

While you take this statement a bit too far, I'd love to see something like you have in that screenshot implemented. I want rich, silent dialogue options. Let me voice my character internally please. I always hated the voice options in BG, none of them sound anything like me. I'm just glad the actual dialog wasn't voiced.

Let's talk about character death shall we? I believe in BG if your main character died that was it, game over screen, reload last save. However, you could revive fallen party members if you had the right skills. I think...it's been a while, maybe it wasn't like that. I propose that we don't show a game over screen until the entire party is wiped out.

I'd like to see them in game as enemies but I wouldn't wanna play one. I like my orcs evil, not some coherent talking thing. -
Aren't they implementing an Iron Man mode already? Or "Trial of Iron" as they call it. If you're against save scumming and don't have the discipline to stop yourself enable this mode. /thread

Saving and reloading
jivex5k replied to qstoffe's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
What dragon age did you play? Surely, not the first one. Back on topic though: I think ogrezilla got it right. Reloading to memorize a set pattern an enemy will follow isn't very challenging or rewarding. Reloading to attempt a different strategy, now that's what I'm talking about! -
Wasn't that captured by the little icons on the character portraits? Granted, the meaning of those wasn't always clear in the BG series. I think they did a better job of that in NWN2. Maybe they need a highlight graphic when a new negative effect gets added to a character? Yeah that's what I mean. I can't tell what the heck those little icons mean...I want a combat log to yell at me: "HEY MAN YOUR FREAKING POISONED!!!!!!! CURE THAT NOW!!!!!" instead of going: "pssst, hey, hey man theres something weird going on" I want it to say: "THAT DUDES CASTING A BIG ASS FIRE SPELL MAN BE READY!!!!!" Not some cryptic animation then BOOM your party is dead.

Why should they limit saveng? I'm old now... I don't want to be forced to save at checkpoints or having to find ink for my typewriter. If your against reloading saves again and again, well then don't do it! Don't force your level of difficulty on someone else who may not want it. They could do like x-com and call it Ironman mode, but don't make it required.
