Fulfilment site?
Quadrone replied to CrazyPea's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Also have to jump in here and say that while Obsidians actual work on PE looks stellar , the way they handeled the fullfilment site is... shoddy. No official statement that I know of about why it takes them so long and when we can expect it. As a Paypal backer the only proof that I backed PE that I have right now is a printout of the donation from Paypal which makes me kinda antsy. I'd like to have a place I can check if Obsidian acknowledges that they owe me one copy of their game. If I may be selfish a bit more, I'd also like that VIP Backer Badge i was promised... not gonna have much use for it once the game is out knowing my own posting habits. -
I will ignore them, on purpose. Knowing full well that someone or possibly several people at Obsidian have poured hours and days of their time into these little bits of lore, wishfully hoping to entertain us with these miniature stories. No matter if these stories be humorous, horrifying or purely informative I will shun them all and hopefully by doing so the writers will feel the sting of my disdain in their hearts and shed a bitter tear. And even though there are many miles between us I will instantly know when this has happened and will cackle in delight.

I see questions similar to this one asked now and then again, so maybe it's necessary to remind us all again: This is a Kickstarter game. The amount of money Obsidian gathered is high for a Kickstarter but not very high compared to traditional Publisher funded development. That means that they are actually on a quite strict budget and will have to cut corners where ever possible. Completly animated groups of craftsmen upgrading our stronghold is probably somewhere behind "hair realistcly blowing in the wind" on the list of priorities, I'd wager. Actually having a broken/repaired state for every separate part of the stronghold we're able to upgrade is pretty amazing to me.

RPG Codex Josh Sawyer Q&A
Quadrone replied to Infinitron's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
So,... I guess uniform attribute bonuses was the only thing of any importance in that Q&A? 'Cause I for one am very happy about the details on crafting. Always dreaded self-crafted stuff outshining even ancient artefacts you found much later in the game. Anyone else feel the same? No? Okay.... -
Ok, did I miss something? When was this poll that Obsidian send out to all the Kickstarter backers quizzing them on their preferences regarding romance/sex/marriage in the game? Did they weight the pros and cons of implementing any of those? Can I see the results?

Count me among those who are wary of this new change. Durability was announced mere days ago, in the official update that probably thousands read and now such a short time later it is rather quietly being removed again. Either the devs made a misstep and announced a mechanic they themselves were not convinced of and now sought approval from their fans or they overreacted because of some bellyaching from the community. I'm not saying durability was necessarily great, but the reaction seems hasty.

Item Durability
Quadrone replied to Sensuki's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Sounds just fine to me. All it burns down to is that Obsidian have to be careful that degradation is not too fast and clearing one dungeon doesn't drive my sword from 100% down to 70% or less. As long as it remains a "now and again" thing instead of a regular chore you perform after each quest as not to have an item break during the next one, I'm OK with it.- 176 replies

Godlike subraces ?!
Quadrone replied to Ulquiorra's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'm sorry but I'm not too knowledgeable about the specifics of this user; is there much appeal beyond the obvious egotistical reasons to play a "forum troll"? -
A solid vote for "old" large and stylized from me. Personally I can't stand minimalist UI's, a bunch of spread out narrow bars and small portrait windows floating in the air... bah.

Creatures in Project Eternity
Quadrone replied to TRX850's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I absolutely love Constructs and anything inanimate imbued with live, so for me awesome choices would be: - Clay Golem - Stone Golem - Steel/Iron Golem - "Exotic Material" Golem (Glass, Mithril, Brass, Diamond, Jade, etc...) - Living Armor - Gargoyle - Fire/Earth/Water/Wind Elemental (preferably from in sizes small to large) - Animated Statue - Spirits giving themselves form by inhabiting piles of inanimate matter ( sticks and branches, cobbled together clothing and armor, sand and rocks, etc...) -
Holy ****, if it isn't my most hated sentence on any game forum ever! Why do these come up over and over? How important do you think you are? Unless you evidently have a considerable portion of the community behind you, no one cares! I'm literally sitting here and raging at this self-important, underhanded attempt at extortion. duty_calls.png I just can't help myself.

Wow, this must be the most laid back forum I've ever been to... I'm not a grammar-nazi in any way but no one is even saying a word at all? Goddamn!

I agree with what has been said in rebuttal to my previous post and do hope your assumptions are right, since having multiple solutions to a problem is absolutely fine, or actually something to expect. Just to point it out though, my example of the fighter party was a bit of hyperbole and worst case scenario on my part, based on the possibility of not needing "a character of class x/y/z to move forward". I didn't really think that Obsidian would go down such a road of extreme "balance" but felt it necessary to show what such an inclusive, balanced approach could lead to. Namely a game in which you can never go wrong and any challenge can be overcome by anyone at any time.

While I'm not really all too worried, this particular answer has me a bit sceptical. Won't such a design, where no need for a specific set of abilities/skills/characters exists ultimately lead to an overall more bland and simple game? I could potentially see this negatively affecting the sense of challenge both in and out of combat. If I get this right any party composition should be able to solve any "problem" just the same as another one. (Oversimplification incoming, but I don't want to write a novel of finer examples) So a party of just fighters/barbarians could just bash open a lock without needing a rogue. There would be no way for a mage to protect himself from melee attacks 100% since this melee oriented party still should be able to kill him. Likewise healing items or some sort of healing ability has to be readily available so such a party can heal itself after a battle. If that would come true that would be kinda awful imho.

You can say that again.
